This subreddit no longer accepts tech support requests outside of this post, if you are looking for additional assistance try r/TechSupport and r/WindowsHelp.
Some examples of questions to ask:
Is this super cheap Windows key legitimate? (probably not)
How can I install Windows 11?
Can you recommend a program to play music?
How do I get back to the old Sound Control Panel?
Sorting by New is recommend and is the default.
Be sure to check out the Windows 11 version 24H2 Megathread and also the Windows 11 FAQ posts, they likely have the answers to your Windows 11 questions already!

Petition: Bring Back a Proper Windows Startup Sound!
To: Microsoft Corporation
From: Windows Users Worldwide
We, the loyal users of Windows, demand the return of an iconic, bold, and memorable startup sound! For decades, Windows greeted us with legendary sounds that defined each era of computing. But now, Microsoft has taken away the charm, leaving us with either silence or a barely audible whisper. We say NO MORE!
Our Demands:
Why This Matters:
Microsoft, bring back the Windows soul! We, the undersigned, request that a proper startup sound be reinstated in the next major Windows update. Give us a sound that is worthy of the Windows legacy!

I was wondering if anyone's seen any stickers for laptops where it interacts with the windows logo (maybe theres someone peeking out the window?)
kind of like those mac stickers where someone's eating the apple or something is interacting with the logo (e.g.: https://www.etsy.com/uk/listing/1351216244/funny-macbook-decal-sticker?ls=a&ga_order=most_relevant&ga_search_type=all&ga_view_type=gallery&ga_search_query=macbook+decal&ref=sc_gallery-1-1&loc=1&local_signal_search=1&plkey=074aadf97805644040ccc00d6ef88dd47810ba83%3A1351216244) but then ofc for windows?

The notification says "Microsoft Defender Antivirus found no threats since the last scan. The device was scanned twice."
I prefer to do this manually rather than have Microsoft Defender do it automatically.

I'm looking for an extremely space-saving sound recorder. The recorder on my Android phone can do .3gp extension AMR format files which must be the most space-saving format. But I can't find an app for Windows that can record in AMR. I've tried popular apps like Audacity, none of them has this space-saving format like .3gp-AMR and their output is twice bigger at best.

Hi, I'm looking for advice,
I have a folder in my pc with files that I access often, but I would like them to not show in my quick access, because those files have names of Beauty Products so naturally if people saw them in my computer they would start asking questions I don't want to answer to.
Is there any way to create a folder with contents that do not show as recent files, or in my quick access? Or maybe should I use a cloud to store those files (they are few mbs, but I would want it to be seamless, I don't want to spend time downloading or uploading).

So I did a driver update today and when I went to right click on my notepad pinned to my start bar, I was momentarily confused by a lack of pinned files, as shown in the first image.
The second image has my notepad pinned to my taskbar, and has the pinned functionality intact. Why is it gone from the start bar, and how do I get it back?

Alright, so I remember seeing a video on my 486 (first PC) when I was a kid. I was browsing through random files and folders and found a 3D animated video of a bunch of random objects bouncing around a room that ends with a clip of a young Bill Gates saying "Cool," or something to that effect.
I've searched the internet high and low and I cannot find anything to corroborate what I remember, but I know it's not something I made up in my head. Whenever I search for something like that online, I only get the windows credits easter egg or the hall of tortured souls.
Someone has to remember what I remember, I can't be the only one who saw this.

Hi, I was wondering if I could use system restore on windows to possible go back to when I had not overwritten a backup file, so I could access the original backup and save it.
Context: I used to have an old iPhone 7 which didn’t have much storage space so I made an iTunes backup on a desktop running windows 11. I made the backup around Dec 2023 then deleted the photos and videos on my iPhone 7 to free up space.
Forward to Jun 2024, I got a new iPhone 13 so I decided to make another backup file of my iPhone 7 in June 2024, then downloaded the backup into my iPhone 13.
I realised when I was going through my new 13 that I only had pictures and videos from Dec 2023 onwards and that’s when I realised that my backup file of my 7 I made in June 2024 overwrote the previous backup file made in Dec 2023.
Would it work if I tried to use system restore to go back to around Dec 2023 and save that original backup so I could recover those videos and photos? Even so, I’ve never opened system restore or used it so did windows 11 automatically make restore points I could access or since I never used it before and never manually created a restore point it wouldn’t work?

My first version of Windows was XP, and boy was it solid (after SP2). I have used versions prior to that on VMs, and XP just felt so much faster and colourful. Not to mention that iconic wallpaper...
VMs and real computers combined, I've used every mainline version of Windows (not CE, Server, or any other builds) since 3.1.

Predator PH315-52.
32gb ram.
I have seen people with this model saying that windows 11 bricked their devices.
I am curious if theres any merit to that.
My concern is growing with windows 10 support ending.
I'm on win10 22h2, I scripted my own win10 update killer which runs on a loop every time I start up.
Been doing that for years, this device's performance hasn't wavered at all.
I feel no need to update to windows 11, but I would appreciate being able to swap over if I ultimately need to for any reason.

I find it very funny that the zip you download is made on MacOS. (It has MacOSX_ folder with auto-generated metadata)

People say that it was poorly-received upon launch but I’ve never known why. I was 20 at launch and remember its rave reviews, though here in Chile, the starter edition (only included in some netbooks designed for people who had never been exposed to computers before to be able to use them for the most basic tasks, we still had normal XP officially available too) was panned and nobody seemed to care. I don’t remember poor reviews or why. What was the situation like at launch?

Hi guys.. I presently have win 10 and want to upgrade to win 11. I fulfill all the pc requirements except for a win 11 compatible CPU. I read that I can still upgrade to win 11 even with this CPU limitation. Is it possible? Are there any issues in doing so?

So I was trying to get windows 8.1 on my old acer L3600 computer which had Vista but when I tried to run the startup file for windows 8.1 it said it has to be run from a windows 7 device or later. The BIOS weren't working so I have to manually install windows 7 to get 8.1

I love the Windows+Left / Right hot keys to snap windows around.
But I hate hate hate the automatic snapping that occurs when I get my mouse too close to the edge of the screen.
In Windows 11, in Settings / System / Multitasking, I don’t see any options to turn this feature off without disabling snapping altogether - which I don’t want to do, because I liked snapping with the Windows+Arrows keys.
Thanks!

I dual boot Linux and Windows, but when i was just starting to get into this stuff, a year ago, i made some mistakes. And because of that i now have 1 180gb partition for Linux (which uses 50 max). i have a 240gb windows partition, that i want to increase. and i have 50gb lying in between drives that i can merge.
Because of this i want to wipe my whole drive, but still keep the windows original that came with the laptop. Is there anyway i can do it or should i get it to a technician for that?

Here is mine start Menu

When I use Photos it "Auto-Enhances" my images (specifically CR2). There is no way to disable this feature. QView is too light and doesn't have a crop feature, and I must be an idiot that can't figure how to use the crop tool in Irfanview.
Are there any other programs you would suggest? Thanks all.

So you probably didn't know that i think most of the previous Windows versions had their default wallpaper named Harmony. Windows Vista,7,8.1 and even 10 had the wallpaper named Harmony, but what about Windows 11? No, it would be a shame to keep the Harmony, so instead we get Light Bloom? What even is Light Bloom? So yeah, these changes are small and also Windows 11 of course requires TPM 2.0 which absolutely nobody knows about TPM.
