Border American (Detroit) flying out of Windsor?

Hi all,

Traveling to Ireland this summer. Tickets to get there are significantly cheaper from Windsor.

I would have a family member take us via car from the Detroit-Windsor border, drop us off, then we would go from Windsor > Toronto > Ireland.

Any tips for this airport, or anything I should know as an American leaving from Canada? How much time should I take to accommodate Canada customs, etc?

Border Emailed my MP

I hope someone up in Ottawa has thought of this but if not I’m putting it out there.

It looks like a good time to start requiring passports and visa’s from all American visitors.

They say we’re too relaxed on our border. Yes I agree, we let them (Americans) simply drive across the bridge with only their drivers license for ID. They use our roads while contributing no taxes to maintaining them. We could recoup this by requiring visitor visas.

Trump says he wants us to crack down on illegal stuff crossing the border. Ok passports can often not be obtained by persons with criminal records. That should slow down the gross flood of firearms into Canada. (Likely several times higher than T’s pretend fentanyl concern)

Sorry neighbours, but this is times of (trade) war.

Border Work remote two days in Windsor for US company?

Recently got an offer from a mid size company in Michigan, 1hr commute from Windsor. I'll be on TN engineer.

Initially the company agreed to allow me work from Windsor two days a week. But as the starting date approaches, company said it's a problem that I work remotely from Canada two days a week; and I can sense company is contemplating rescinding the offer. Company said if I work two days remote from a US address, that'll be fine.

Has anyone run into similar situations?

Thank you

Border Do people from Windsor cross the border for trivial things like fast food or restaurants? What’s the most trivial thing you’ve gone over for?

I’m from Toronto, too far from the border in all directions to go for anything trivial like groceries or restaraunts etc.

I was wondering if Canadians in border cities like Windsor and Niagara cross over for trivial stuff?

Border Tunnel Bus - Opinion Change?

Trump has smacked Canada with a 25% and 10% tariff on goods and energy—seemingly out of spite, stupidity, or both. I think it is safe to say that the tariffs are disproportionate to the reasons they give.

The tunnel bus is a highly taxpayer-subsidized service that picks up people on the Canadian side and drops them off on the U.S. side. Very few Americans use the service to come here for any reason.

So, I'm curious, are you still okay funding a service that really only benefits the U.S. economy? Or has your opinion shifted?

Border cross border commuters on TN, how often do you print the latest I-94 and bring it with you?

Per US immigration requirement, for cross border commuter on TN visa, we are supposed to take the latest I-94 with us in the US. It's not practical to print the latest I-94 as a daily commuter. But how often do you print it out?

Once a month? Once every 3 months?

Thank you

Edit: My employer attorney just send an email urging all visa holders to keep necessary immigration documents (I94 for TN) at hand all the times in the US.

Email: "all foreign citizens are required to carry valid passport and most recent I94 AT ALL TIMES"

Border Shopping in Detroit

I know we're supposed to be focusing on buying Canadian rn but Joann Fabric's is closing and i was hoping to do one final spree. Has anyone crossed recently after shopping in the US? I looked thru the list and it seems to be mostly food, clothes, and building supplies, but just wondering if anyone has recently crossed after buying something?

thanks!

Border Seeing Concert in Detroit: What’s the Border Like Back to Windsor Late Night

Hello Everyone,

In October I am going to be taking my daughter to see Tate McRae who is performing at Little Caesars Arena on Monday night (Thanksgiving Day in Canada).

I was hoping to stay at a hotel in Windsor the whole weekend, and not actually spend the night in Detroit.

But, I’m worried the border back to Windsor after the concert could be madness, or maybe it’ll be empty, I’m not sure.

Does anyone have any insights you can share on what the border is like around midnight (as I assume that’s around when I’d be crossing) after concerts?

Is it worth getting a hotel in Detroit? I’d rather avoid checking out from a Windsor hotel and checking into a hotel in Detroit if I can avoid it.

Thanks in advance!

Border Going to Detroit for Gas/Groceries

How much money do you actually save in gas if you go to Detroit? Let's assume it's about $60-65 CAD ($43-47 USD) to fill up gas at Costco for a regular gas on a 14 gallon tank.

In Detroit, we would assume roughly $30-35 USD for the same. That's nearly $10 USD in savings.

Not to mention you also need to pay the toll. Does anyone know if you get charged twice if you enter the tunnel on the same day going to and from Windsor? In any case, you save about $5 which can go a long way for many.

Does anyone do this and what's your experience? I would probably go to Costco in the states to get some snacks that Windsor probably wouldn't have.
