Post From the All-Knowing Mods Concerning Flairs New and Old

After some discussion and some community suggestions the mod team is considering updating our flairs. We've already added two for open and closed interaction lorepost, since specifying that has become a trend among the creative writing/rp side of our community. But the mod team wanted to open the conversation to you folks.

Two questions we'd Ike the community's thoughts on:

1. What flairs would you like to see? - We're considering "character introduction" so far and are open to other ideas as well.

2. Which flairs would you be willing to lose? The flair list is getting a bit long. We are considering some "spring cleaning" so to speak.

We look forward to your suggestions.

Concerning question 2…

Fantasy Friday, one of the two between esoteric secrets and arcane wisdom, they’re basically the same. Same thing for foul sorcery and evil wizardpost.

Wizard weed too, incredibly niche flair.

Maybe a pvp flair

By chance

It was discussed briefly and considered largely covered by "interactable" but if there's enough buzz for it or if we clear some space then it's a contender.

I believe that at this point, it would be plausible to use, and perhaps let new accounts interact with others more often.

Ah, magical PvP. Nice.

To get rid of:

  1. Fantasy Friday
  2. Shitpost Sunday
  3. Magi Law (maybe so it doesn't get confused with official announcements)
  4. Foul Sorcery (We have an evil wizard tag)

Oh, so that's what it means? I thought Magi Law meant the magical court.

Well, it could mean that? I know we've used it for the Esoteric Order of Nations. But most people don't use it, and EON can use something else. It isn't like we can pass anything to ban torture. I'm a little unsure whether we'll be able to tackle child soldiers, heh

Yeah, too many nations have them. Unless you can get in a leading position and ask the monarch to tackle the problem, they're gonna be around for a while. And, torture is quite useful more often than not, so.. Anyway, I was thinking of court cases and such, but then again, I don't know how it'll end up other than them killing each other anyway.

The idea behind EON is that we can maybe gently peer pressure people into coming up with a group set of rules... but the thing is, a lot of the nations are also a little bit evil. And yes, rely on torture. Or child soldiers. It's one of the reasons we can't seem to agree on some wizard conventions. But we're trying, ha.

Anyway, we can keep the EON stuff in our own thread since it only applies to EON members anyway.

Alrighty. I'm still deciding what to join. I am making an auction house, though.

Auction house sounds good!

And don't feel too pressured about what to join, honestly. Lots of people are in multiple. EON has several people who are in the Cabal and the Council. John E Hellfire (our current Chancellor) is basically in everything. EON is more for nations/worldbuilding. Cabal is mostly evil hijinks. And the Council... eh, I'd say evil hijinks, but on a less IC level.

I'm personally for keeping Wizard Weed. It's part of the wizard meme identity, so removing it just feels wrong.

Also, does anyone actually know what the Mystical Threads tag is for? I haven't seen it used once, though it is kind of a new one.

I think it's for the people that post irl photos of themselves in wizard costume? Maybe cosplay? That's how I interpret it

Orc rampaging could probably go I don't remember the last time I saw it being used.

I can second the orc rampage, and I like the idea of a char intro/explanation of who you are

Just looking over the list, I think it could be trimmed down a lot.

In my eyes, Esoteric Secrets, Forbidden Knowledge, and Occult Practices could probably all be condensed into Esoteric Secrets alone.

Nix Wizard Weed because we already have SWMG, not that people use much of either.

Orc Rampaging and Magi Law could be trimmed as others have said.

Evil Wizardpost and Foul Sorcery seem like the same thing to me as well. I like the ring of Foul Sorcery but people may differ.

I think Shitpost Sunday can also be trimmed, that theme has fallen to the wayside and we already have Goblinlike Foolishness.

Anyway, that's just, like, my opinion, man.

I'm of the opinion that "Magi law" is handy for EON and Council posts. But I'm seeing a lot of folks advise trimming it

I get that, but at the same time I feel like Aetherial News can cover the same category. Whether we decide to keep one or both though, it may help to distinguish them from official mod posts. I saw someone else say it kind of looks like a mod flair. I can see where they're coming from.

Ngl, I forgot Aetherial news was a flair. That's what happens when you have 50 of the damn things

Honestly it may help having a "Worldbuilding" flair

I think some of the lorepost tags could go. IMO keep the ones that specify open or closed interaction, get rid of the plain “lorepost” and the art one.

Also “arcane wisdom” and “esoteric secrets” are kinda the same thing so we only need one

“Wizardpost” is kinda redundant cause they’re all wizardposts, same for “magickal post”

Can we get something like magic tips where people can share their new arcane creations?

u/mrididnt Erik(a), the god hunter Dec 20 '24

Maybe a flair for non canon posts?

/uw I think some people are kind of anal here, about interaction. It's not much open at all, imo. I feel expected to read, as a passive audience member, and be impressed with whatever is lorded on me for my consumption. A lot of it is very good, but it doesn't feel very good. So...as someone fairly new, and not "in", I have felt pretty lukewarm about it all, hung back, and taken a lot of my energy elsewhere. I don't have positive feedback, currently.

u/The_Unkowable_ Artemis, Empress of Tak'ath and Baroness of Ithacar Dec 20 '24

/uw part of that could simply be that you're stumbling into a closed lorepost, where only very specific interactions were expected to take place. Try looking for the community event flair, those are typically meant to be pretty open.

Another part could simply be that your rp etiquette or style isn't meshing well with the people you're trying to interact with. There's a few good posts here with general guidelines on that sort of thing, if you wanted to look.

Something else to keep in mind is that people here are writing primarily for themselves, and the people who are already a close part of their stories. As an outsider, try to keep in mind that it's not that people are expecting you, personally, to be amazed by it so much as they're not anticipating anyone but their friends to read their loreposts.

/uw you want a hand with getting more interaction? I got lucky in joining in a big event and picked up a lot of friends who helped me get interaction about a month ago, if you like I’d be happy to help you find a place too. I recommend looking at Chelle’s events, she’s new and good for interacting with. Look at more general community events too. Most are Christmas themed at the moment so good places to just get used to casual interaction. If you like, I can ping you on some of the good events. And if you make a post and let me know, I can call in the RnA on it, we’re a medium sized organisation so I reckon I can get you a good amount of interaction

Also in the no interaction thing you probably found yourself in a noninteractive lorepost. Those tend to be written for small audiences of specific people or for the writer themselves, you’ll find plenty that aren’t but best to get started via events.
