Ulrick started uneasily. Big speeches were never really his style. He much preferred to rather listen to them from a shadowy spot.
There was no time to wait, however. Most of R&A knew he went out to challenge Hirk to make him retake his position, and both of them returned a few days ago.
Rumors already started spreading, so he had to clear up everything as soon as possible.
âAs probably all of you know, I went out last week when R&A caught whispers of a man eerily similar to Hirk wandering around the countryside.â
âI intended for him to fight me, to resolve the question of R&A leadership.â
âAnd so, we did. We had an official duel for the seat, right in the middle of a ghost town.â
He glanced across the audience, Relief Force, and many of the âNotable Magesâ too. The crowdâs anticipation was almost tangible in the air. Time to deliver the news.
âWe didnât finish the duel. Instead, Hirk proposed an idea for a new leadership structure.â
âIn the future, R&A would have two leaders: one elected by the people, and one elected by an internal vote. Two heads, overseeing both each other and the organization.â
âThis would not only mean a more stable structure but also lessen the workload of the leader. Weâre still sorting out whoâd get which tasks.â
The hall was filled by a swirl of murmurs. Some fearful, some excited. Ulrick had a good guess what most of those were about. Good thing he was just about to address that.
The true grand news of the day.
âI know, some of you must be wondering, how a Council wing would have two seats. Would the Council even allow that?â
âAnd for that, we have a simple solution. One weâve been planning for so long.â
Ulrick put the speech to a short halt, to raise the tension even further. Before dropping the most important declaration of all.
Thatâs good. Weâll do our usual best to help Haven in times of crises, and our employees can help out in any needs such as healing or education. Ajax could be an instrumental envoy between our groups.
âWe will of course also share any developments. Velos is working on ways to use his Gallium for surgeries, and Argus is working on rapid deployment wards for emergencies. I will let you know when prototypes are ready for extended testing.â
R&A is always welcomes cutting edge medical innovations, not to mention Faint Dawn started itâs own researches as well, close ties to the organization.
A mutual exchange of knowledge should do much good for all parties.
With EON, it finally started to stand on itâs own leg, becoming a city of itâs own. And while still independent, the proximity to R&A helps greatly. Both the town and the organization.
Hey, one last thing: if this does boil over into a revolution, what color do ya want the armbands to be? I asked Hirk, but he won't entertain the possibility, so I came to ya. If ya don't have an opinion, they're gonna be purple and green.
Well, lets hope itâs not gonna blow into true violence and bloodshed. In fact, now that weâre out of the council, we should change the logo too. The wizard hat representing the council must goâŚ

We can never know âtill we tried it out. Besides, having more heads makes it harder to eliminate leadership by hostiles.

Chikako bowed in front of Ulrick, but she was quite confused about why he said that. If an incident did break out at the headquarters, the police and other first responders would be the ones first on the scene. However, it would have been rude not to thank him for the gesture.
