Fluff I subbed to WoW last year solely because they added Tauren Mages, and the journey has been so worth it.

I have a Highmountain Tauren frost mage named Rimehoof. Moose Mage ftw.
Just want to add that Blink + the charge is a really fun combo that is likely overlooked by the more meta races

MOOSE MAGE

u/Warcraft_Fan Dec 17 '24
If there is more than one moose mage, is it meese mage, mooses mage, moose mages, or something else?

Moose is the plural for moose. So I think moose mages sounds the most correct to me?

I love using "hoof" for Tauren names. I made a rogue named 'Mufflehoof'.

My Tauren are all "Bull". Horribull, Invisibull, Terribull, Incredibull...
Vulpera are "tail".1

My main is a Highmountain Tauren Hunter, love doing aspect of the cheetah and bull rush together. I have 2 level 80 mages already Vulpera and Dark Iron Dwarf, this makes me want to roll a 3rd mage... Haven't done fire yet.

u/elmntfire Dec 18 '24
I love my high mountain warrior for much the same reason. Charge, racial, heroic leap, intervene, shield charge. Movement for days.
2
u/ravenofblight Dec 17 '24
And here I though my stealth charge, then fire a gat high mountain rogue was the secret sauce
2
u/PocketPoof Dec 17 '24
I was thinking recently how tauren mage is a combination I feel I have practically never seen, so I made a highmountain tauren mage last night. He's lvl 65 now, glad to see there's more!

u/Same-Sherbert-7613 Dec 17 '24
Love to see it I'm a HM DK and its the best thing ever. If you don't see my eyes its honestly hard to tell what Im playing because of how colorful and not undead my transmog is I love it so much.

u/CharlieChop Dec 17 '24
This is a whole damn vibe and I'm loving it! Do you have a link for the mog?

I haven't played wow in a decade, but I remember as a kid we used to make jokes about tauren rogues.
Imagine the whiplash I got from this post, and then learning about tauren mages, warlocks and rogues.
1
Dec 19 '24
Yeah same It doesn’t fit the Tauren race fantasy at all
1
u/SoyaJAR_ Dec 20 '24
Back then probably. But at this point some Tauren might wanna explore and learn new things outside of their people's norms.

You're telling me Tauren mage wasn't a thing until recent years ? Damn, it's the first thing I picked when I subscribed this year!
76
u/Desperate-Sun2577 Dec 17 '24
Tauren had the least amount of classes in vanilla, and now they have the most. Mage, Warlock and Rogue were added late into Dragonflight.
35
u/door_of_doom Dec 17 '24
2004: Druid, Hunter, Shaman, Warrior
2024: Death Knight, Druid, Hunter, Mage, Monk, Paladin, Priest, Rogue, Shaman, Warlock, Warrior
You love to see it.
2
1
u/blasek0 Dec 18 '24
Wasn't monk universal when they added it?
2
u/door_of_doom Dec 18 '24
Not completely universal: goblins were excluded at the start, and some allied races like Light forged were excluded at their introduction.
But largely, yes. Cataclysm was the first expac that really opened up a lot of race/class combos, so by mists a lot of races we're much more open than the 4-6 classes in vanilla.
1
u/8-Brit Dec 18 '24
Literally only missing the two race specific hero classes. Not even the myriad of elves can compete.
13
u/Luvas Dec 17 '24
The most flexible people in all of Azeroth alongside Zandalari!

u/zenspeed Dec 17 '24
According to the internet, the most flexible people in all of Azeroth are blood elves and Draenei.

Tauren rogue has to be the best thing ever
7
u/theangryintern Dec 17 '24
I made a Tauren Rogue mainly because it's funny to have something that big be "stealthy". His name is Vacafurtiva (sneaky cow)

u/Infinitedeveloper Dec 18 '24
They're so good nobody even knew they existed until the champions became cosmic level fighters
9
u/Sarcastic-Potato Dec 17 '24
Tauren rogue must be a lot of fun on an role playing server. How the hell do you sneak around while being a gigantic cow?
12
6
u/Lombardyn Dec 17 '24
You have to see Tauren Rogue a bit like the Tauren Paladin. Technically their paladins are Sunstriders, which are more like armored priests worshipping the light as a sun aspect of the earth mother.
Likewise, I'd see Tauren Rogues more akin to their Longstrider description. Scouts specialized on subterfuge and stealth, reconnaissance and espionage. Less assassination. Or embrace the Outlaw spec, since there seem to be a lot of Tauren pirates around Booty Bay for some odd reason.2
u/MostlyNoOneIThink Dec 18 '24
Rogues use magic. That one Thrall cinematic shows it alongside the stealth sound effect.
2
u/Elleden Dec 18 '24
Now that you mention it, what kind of magic is that, cosmology-chart-wise? Arcane seems the most versatile, generally.
1
u/MostlyNoOneIThink Dec 18 '24
I'd say Arcane purely because Mages can also go invisible.
2
u/Elleden Dec 18 '24
So the in-game distinction between Stealth and Invisibility is purely a mechanical thing, then?
→ More replies (1)28
u/StardustJess Dec 17 '24
I really love it though. Tauren is my favourite race. I'm the kind of person that thinks all races should have access to all classes. It's just more fun to role play that way
1
u/BridgemanBridgeman Dec 19 '24
Also makes every race less unique. The thought of a tauren stealthing around on his big fat hooves is just ridiculous.
At this point just delete race selection from the game, and add a skin selector to the barbershop. That’s basically what races are now, just skins.
1
u/StardustJess Dec 19 '24
But funny ?
Honestly, yeah. I was a bit baffled at how useless the race skill is as a tauren, and then I played as a pandaren and noticed how useless it also it. It perplexes me why.

u/thesirblondie Dec 17 '24
I remember back in Vanilla/BC times when people were doing private servers with customisation that allowed things like Tauren rogues. It was really janky because they didn't have proper animations for certain attacks.
3
u/catluvr37 Dec 17 '24
Most races couldn’t pick up quite a few classes. Mostly for lore reasons, like night elves couldn’t use arcane magic because they brought a wrathful god to Azeroth by using it. Female night elves almost couldn’t be druids because in the lore only males could. The women were the brute warriors

This is what I love about WoW. Tauren is one of the few races I'll probably never play (along with Pandaren and maybe chicken-gnomes), but I love that there are people that absolutely adore them and how it creates a feeling of true diversity in-game. 💜
11
u/Uncle_Leggywolf Dec 17 '24
You won’t play the two hottest races in the game? 🐮🐼💔
9
u/sabrinalilithblack Dec 17 '24
I know. Totally missing my chance to be a cow DK called Moorderer or Necromooncer or something like that or even a Pandaren rogue called like, Bamboozled even 😅

Really wish they'd just uncap class restrictions at this point. Once you had tauren rogues, everything was out the window
Undead paladin would be sick, girlfriend is dying to play a belf druid, i think an undead shaman with tombstones for totems would be badass

u/8-Brit Dec 18 '24

I fully expect it's the eventual plan, the only classes left are ones that need custom assets beyond spell visuals. Paladin mounts, shaman totems, druid forms.
Totems would be easiest, just a (mostly) static object with some recolours. Mounts and druid forms are harder.

u/bazzabaz1 Dec 17 '24
Yet here I am, craving an undead Paladin.
1
u/Timecunning Dec 18 '24
That one is a hard one your hope is going to be a light undead skin.
Undead currently have too few holy magic users because of the cost of using it.
3
u/mavric911 Dec 17 '24
I started a Tauren mage because I thought combustabull was a great name but found I hate fire mage so I still play my goblin instead.
Turns out the great pun name is a limiting factor
3
u/NewJerseysbody Dec 17 '24
Dracthyr warrior is also a lot of fun. Cancel any knockback coming my way and going straight back to my enemies faces.

u/javilla Dec 17 '24

I think the funniest combo is Highmountain Tauren rogue. A 600 kg moose lumbers by while stealthed, and somehow no one sees or hears anything 🤣

Not all rogues are good at stealth.
Pirates exist and is probably the path they got rogues by.

I ve a tauren (and I only play taurens) for every race.
I ve never been a big fan of mages but... In September I came back to wow after a looooong while and I leveled up a tauren mage (it was a new combination for me!)
At first I still had doubts about but... Then I saw I could go "frostfire". I wasnt really happy with frost - frostfire the damage still looked far too much frost oriented so I didn't perceive it really like a frostFIRE. Then I tried to go fire - frostfire... And had a (fire)blast with it! Was TON of fun! The damage was actually really mixed between frost and fire ... Plus the meteor-comet storm had a higher uptime/usage compared to the frost one.
P.S. obviously I might have messed up something with the frost - frostfire when I say "the damage looked too frost oriented and wasn't mixed that much". I m not longer a tryharder hardcore player and I m just a casual tauren played had enjoyed Delves a lot. Best thing ever happened to wow for me. Could play all my herd and have fun with whatever talents I felt like! (While having the Zekvir ?? Challenge... That was also fun!)

u/TerroDark98 Dec 18 '24
You can also make a tauren rogue, which is hilarious.

This is awesome! What's the story behind you only subbing for Tauren Mage?
2
u/Desperate-Sun2577 Dec 18 '24
I've had a lot of mental health issues around enjoying games my peers deem as "bad", so I mostly played Classic for a while because it was the "better WoW".
but I really love Tauren and I had a Shaman for a while in WoTLK Classic, but also I ended up playing Mage as well and loving that.
So when I heard about Tauren Mage it was love at first sight.

u/Void-kun Dec 18 '24
I'm sorry to hear your peers had that effect on you. But I'm glad to hear you've found your place and you're having fun ❤️
