My mom isn't controlling or anything, in fact quite the opposite. I spent my childhood running around in the woods and she's always respected my choices as an adult.

She just completely lacks social grace, that's the problem. I had to learn most etiquette things (e.g. waiting to start until everyone gets their food at a restaurant) as an adult from trial and error because my parents didn't teach me or set a good example.

Sewing isn't going to be the issue here. I think replacing the back is not super complicated.

But finding a matching lace that looks like the rest of the dress could be really difficult, depending on how particular you are.

Currently, the lace on the sleeve and on the back is perfectly matched up along the shoulder seam, but that's not going to happen if you switch the fabric on the back. Just something to be aware of in case that bothers you.

This improved a lot for me when I started separating the little things (socks, underwear, tank tops) from the bulky stuff (towels, hoodies, long skirts). The small stuff sometimes gets rolled up inside the bulky stuff. Not overloading the washing machine helps too.

My favorite button down collared shirts have small floral prints or other patterns on them.

The dress does not emphasize your chest at all. To me, it seems like she's advising you to go out of your way to cover up or hide this area of your body, like with a chunky sweater or a loose blouse. This is a crappy opinion and quite frankly she can go kick rocks because you look great and have nothing to hide.

This perfectly describes me as well. I'm 5'3" but my hip bones are the same height as my 5'11" friend because I have long legs and a very short torso. I wear "long" pants and "petite" dresses/tops. Every one-piece swimsuit in existence is too long and most pants are awkwardly too short.
