Ifrit or Garuda?

Lazy? Go sicfrit. Otherwise try to use Ifrit during downtime to get up shield for your melees then swap back to Garuda. Practice using contagion by putting Aerial Slash on CD when Contagion is at 25s(CD). Then put Garuda in Sic when Contagion comes up instead of hitting the button manually, make sure Aerial slash is on CD and if Garuda is in melee range of the target she will use her knock back first over Contagion. So if you know Garuda is going to be up close in her contagion window make sure you put that knock back on CD first.

tl;dr: Join the balance discord and learn how to use Garuda if you want to be optimal, if you don't care use sicfrit.

I run SMN and at i358 I have 38k with no vit melds / food / or parties, with my food and party I'm at about 40.1k.
So far in this tier I haven't ran into any scenarios where something happened and Vit* melds would've saved the run. Sometimes they're good for progging to see that little extra bit of the fight.
I would recommend stop using Vit melds once you've cleared O8S or feel comfortable with your healers if you run in a static.

I cleared day 2, so basically got a group, and we 3 shot it I think? I don't remember having much trouble with it then, but by golly now is it the worst to pug. So many people grabbed by ghosties.

Tips for Zone 4 on Monk?

Been trying to get my Monk clear for what feels like forever now, and to be honest I enjoy Aria more because I don't have to worry about vow of poverty.
My main issue in Zone 4 is quick thinking when it comes to bats/liches/warlocks/mummies. Individually nothing in this zone is hard to handle, but if I a sentry aggros through a wall I'm basically fucked.
Gray bats, why do they exist? Is there a pattern to them? I usually just try and get a lucky charm so I don't have to worry, but when I don't have one they usually end up hitting me when I slip up fighting something else.
I normally play with the tempo up mod, but turning it off didn't help a whole lot so I think I need to develop better gold placement and learn how to handle mummies.
Also is starting from Zone 4 easier or harder than getting there from all zones mode?

I'm gonna stick with my guns with SMN as my main caster this patch. The nerfs are pretty minimal to my single target damage, so it won't hurt my raiding too much.

First of all, thank you for the replies everyone!
Sorry about not using the weekly thread, that was due to my own ignorance.

Taking the tips from everyone I'm going to try and relax more with this game. It just felt like there was something I was missing, but I guess that was patience. I have been working a little on other elements, I have teams that can do Hard primals for each other than Earth and Light. I'll stay strong for Vira, thank you for the advice and encouragement everyone!
