What places are worth it... But not for you?

not for mold allergies - living too close to the water is very damp, SD gets a marine layer and June Gloom - the sweet spot is just far enough away to be out from under that, but not so far that you're in the desert, all the way up the coast to LA

lol - I've visited Houston multiple times on purpose - you've got The Menil Collection, MFAH, Bayou Bend, Rienzi, Contemporary Arts Museum - you need to get out more, there's tons to see - go look for the carved eskimo sunglasses at the Menil, for starters

How do MRIs work? Your protons are magnets. What happens to them in an MRI?
 in  r/Damnthatsinteresting  1d ago

your protons are not magnets, your protons produce a net magnet vector when aligned. very simply, the hydrogen protons are aligned into a longitudinal net magnetic vector by the magnet, then toppled sideways by radio pulses - hydrogens in a tightly bound environment (as in a hydrocarbon chain) lose energy more quickly, loosely associated hydrogens (as in water) lose energy more slowly, the various coil antennas measure the loss of signal as the protons move from transverse back to longitudinal (net magnetic vector crossing copper coil produces signal)

tl;dr the machine measures the loss of applied energy in hydrogen protons in water vs fat

Should I move to Phoenix or Dallas?
 in  r/SameGrassButGreener  1d ago

both are bad choices, Phoenix in a nice part of PHX is better IMHO. are these your only options? (scottsdale is nice yes)

of places I lived:

NYC - lived there 1986-1994, could not do it now. too paved over and too $$$

Denver - the mountains are gorgeous but the Utah desert is more my vibe

Portland - great food but the dreariness got to me

San Diego at the beach - my allergies have never been worse, inland as far as Balboa Park is better
