Innovative Poll: LPC 41; CPC 35; NDP 12; BLOC 6 (26 QC); Green 3
 in  r/canada  16h ago

Yes, that exact same type of sensationalism. It's like the anti-(insert thing here) people all have the same style of playing off hate and emotion in order to sway peoples opinions on things. Getting people to fear the proverbial boogey man is how they operate. As for the lies, the LPC has repeatedly lied about the sources of firearms used to commit crimes, have lied about the purposes and functionality of firearms, and lied about several aspects of the incident in Nova Scotia in order to push through more bans.

I have bigger priorities in this election, but I really wish the LPC would drop the gun ban BS. It makes it so much harder to believe anything they say when you see the blatent lies and disinformation they spread about guns to try to make that a wedge issue.

Really just depends if the post hits Reddits front page. If it does, it probably gets 100x the eyes on it vs posts seen only by those who lurk this sub.

Trump Orders Four Mile Military Parade for his 79th Birthday

Anyone ever see the movie "Used Cars"? I feel like the procession should be something like the finally of that movie, just a line of old rattle can painted junkers. Perfectly matches the current administration.

US Hits Canada Lumber With 34% Duties Even Before Trump Tariffs

How many of those trees are suitable for lumber? I have hundreds of poplars on my property, but they could never be used to build a house.

The same reason we aren't still paying $1.68 a liter for gas, even though the market will pay it; competition. There are 4 companies selling potash in Canada, so they have to compete with each other price wise. A blanket increase of 25% across the market due to export tarrifs means that all of those companies are still on a level playing field with each other, unlike if one (or all) decided to arbitrarily raise the price on their own.

Carney - ''The global economy is fundamentally different today than it was yesterday. The system of global trade anchored on the United States is over. The 80 year period when the United States embraced the mantle of economic leadership is over. While this is a tragedy, it is also the new reality.''

Even when I worked in factories a decade ago, you would be lucky to have more than 2 dozen workers on a site that produced enough material or goods to supply an entire state. Its not one worker per machine like it was before computers came along.

These hotel elevators are on pistons instead of being suspended by cables.

One shop I visit still has an old pneumatic lift, one giant post at least 16" across, right in the middle. It has a habbit of going up by itself because the air valve leaks going to it, and has put more than one car into the roof over a weekend unattended. Needless to say I refuse to go anywhere near it when it's up.

Quebec awards new contract to install Elon Musk’s Starlink despite tariff conflict
 in  r/canada  6d ago

I'm seeing a lot of "there's no alternative to starlink" comments here, and I will admit I'm not familiar with how things are out east for infrastructure. Here on the prairies we have various different providers with sattelite, radio, and cellular options for those who can't get hard wired internet. Is it not the same out there?

Liberals promise to build nearly 500,000 homes per year, create new housing entity

I guess you didn't read that whole article, hey? The caps are only intended to reduce the number until other things catch up. In other words, once they believe that we can handle more, they will open the flood gates again.

"Empty space" Ah yes, nothing like urban sprawl to accelerate the destruction of natural habitats.

I'm glad I got to at least somewhat enjoy Canada when there were fewer people. Population keeps growing and the natural beauty of our country will continue to be eroded. Rivers polluted, lakes overfished, forests and wetlands destroyed. The cost of "progress".

They would in fact have many dollars, from the confiscations from natives in the 1800's right up to the hurricane Katrina where the police were taking firearms. And thats just in the US.

3 cents a liter on farm fuell, not tax free. Also grain hauling super bees absolutely destroy grid roads.

The problem with your calculation is that it doesn't factor in other consumption. Sask residents consume nearly 4700 liters of fuel per capita, so the average road tax per person, let alone per vehicle, is much higher than $300, even when factring in tax exemptions. Farmers and industry burn a ton of fuel.
