How can you tell if someone is a false prophet?
 in  r/TrueChristian  8h ago

Every few years someone comes along predicting the date of the rapture. They are always wrong. Usually just put to make money.

Advice For Someone Struggling With Worship Music?
 in  r/TrueChristian  2d ago

I hate the sort of worship songs that sound like they are romantic love songs just subbed out “boyfriend” for “Jesus”.

I prefer traditional hymns where the music and words have more depth and craft to them.

I can hear pop/rock music at the pub on Saturday night, I don’t need church to be the same as that.

Luke vs Matthew birth narrative
 in  r/TrueChristian  3d ago

The birth narratives in Matthew and Luke present significantly different accounts that are difficult to harmonize historically. Matthew portrays a family originally living in Bethlehem who flees to Egypt before settling in Nazareth, while Luke shows a Nazareth family traveling to Bethlehem for a census before returning home. Matthew focuses on Joseph's perspective, wise men, and Herod's massacre, while Luke emphasizes Mary's experience, shepherds, and the temple presentation. These discrepancies likely stem from the authors drawing on different oral traditions circulating in their separate communities (Jewish-Christian for Matthew, more Gentile-oriented for Luke), each shaping their narrative to emphasize distinct theological messages rather than strict historical chronology. The gospels were written decades after Jesus's lifetime when the theological significance of Jesus as fulfilling Jewish prophecy (Matthew) or being savior to all people (Luke) took precedence over historical precision. Most scholars view these as distinct theological narratives reflecting the concerns of different early Christian communities rather than attempting to be comprehensive historical accounts.

Does resurrection imply that reality as we perceive it some type of illusion?
 in  r/TrueChristian  4d ago

The resurrection doesn't necessarily mean reality is an illusion, but rather suggests our physical universe operates under God's authority and isn't the complete picture of existence. When Jesus appeared to the disciples after resurrection, it demonstrates that spiritual reality can intersect with physical reality in ways that transcend our understanding of natural laws. Instead of viewing reality as "fake," we might better understand it as having multiple dimensions or layers, with God able to act beyond the constraints of what we typically observe.

How do you tell if your pastor/ priest is a pedophile?
 in  r/TrueChristian  4d ago

I feel like if churches have activities with children then on their website they should make mention of things like police checks and safety measures. If they do this then there is less likely to be pedophiles around.

You mean the Anglican Church allows Catholics to take communion, but the Catholic Church disagrees with it?

General Question Can a confirmed Catholic receive communion in an Anglican Church?

From the point of view of the Anglican Church, can someone who was confirmed in the Catholic Church take communion in an Anglican Church? Or do the different theologies around the Eucharist prohibit it?

Are there personal values/ what it means to be goth? (Other than liking the music)
 in  r/goth  7d ago

I would say it centres around music, but as others have said the scene tends to align closely as an ally to the LGBT community. Conservative goths would be a minority and they would have to at least tolerate different gender and sexual identities, ethnic minorities too

art, design, fashion, literature, religion/occult, gothic horror, history are all there as part of the aesthetic. Some goths are more deeply into these things than others.

Is it a sin to attend other religious buildings that aren’t churches?
 in  r/TrueChristian  8d ago

I could be wrong but I’m sure when Paul went around spreading the message he would have visited some pagan sites and seen them worshipping the pagan gods. Doesn’t mean he was worshipping false idols.

“You’re not goth!”
 in  r/goth  8d ago

You look like someone who could be goth in a subtle way. Just like the majority of people at goth nights. If I saw you at a goth night I wouldn’t question it.

Probably someone intimidated by a beautiful young black woman.

Seems like racism to me. You are a goth. Be proud.

Best bible translation to read? What’s the most accurate?

Lots of seminaries and universities use the nrsv. Not sure if that’s necessarily the best though, but they must use it for a reason.

I thought it was going to be a murder mystery show with a surprise twist ending. The last episode wasn’t what I thought the show was going to be so it felt like a let down.

Non Christian here, why do you think god created aethiests?
 in  r/TrueChristian  10d ago

Right but they change their mind for a reason. They don’t just choose to believe something their brain doesn’t assent to.

 in  r/TrueChristian  10d ago

I’m not talking about hating God, I’m talking about not believing God exists. I think to do that you would need something like new evidence or argument to change your mind. You couldn’t just choose it.

My point is it’s not possible to.

Non Christian here, why do you think god created aethiests?

So how would you force yourself to believe God didn’t exist?

Non Christian here, why do you think god created aethiests?
 in  r/TrueChristian  10d ago

I know but believing means your mind is accepting something is true based on reasoning and evidence. If you believe God exists say due to philosophical arguments like the cosmological argument or the moral argument or what ever, and these arguments are convincing to you and the reason you believe. How could you then choose to believe otherwise when you have no reason to? I just don’t think we can choose to believe something we don’t believe.

Anyway I’m not going to argue the point. That’s it.
