We need flairs in this server
 in  r/Katatonia  7d ago

I have added emoji of pretty much every album cover I can think of, you should be able to add them as flairs in the new reddit, for old reddit I'm not sure if it would still show.

Discussion For the King Crimson fans here: has the fact that their album art is not allowed on the site had any effect on you listening to the band?

More particularly if you are someone who loves to share your charts and hates having blank spaces I suppose. I've heard a couple other people allude to this before, I wonder if there's anyone else out there feeling this way.

what are your top 5 songs from each album? i wanna see which ones get picked the most
 in  r/Katatonia  Feb 24 '25

There were decisions I couldn't make, apologies. I also included a couple B-Sides as bonuses

Dance of December Souls: Tomb of Insomnia, Velvet Thorns (of Drynwhyl), Without God, Gateways of Bereavement, In Silence Enshrined

Brave Murder Day: This would imply that 1 song on this album is not good, and that is simply not true.

Discouraged Ones: (Quiet World), Deadhouse, I Break, Gone, Saw You Drown, Cold Ways

Tonight's Decision: I Am Nothing, For My Demons, Black Session, A Darkness Coming, Strained

Last Fair Deal Gone Down: I literally can't choose just 5

Viva Emptiness: Evidence, One Year from Now, Inside the City of Glass, Omerta, Burn the Remembrance

The Great Cold Distance: (Unfurl), Rusted, Soil's Song, In the White, Leaders, Journey Through Pressure

Night is the New Day: Onward into Battle, Idle Blood, Nephilim, Departer, Day and Then the Shade

Dead End Kings: The Racing Heart, Hypnone, Lethean, Undo You, Buildings

The Fall of Hearts: Passer, Residual, Serein, Serac, Takeover

City Burials: The Winter of Our Passing, Lacquer, City Glaciers, Heart Set to Divide, Vanishers

Sky Void of Stars: Impermanence, Austerity, Drab Moon, Birds, No Beacon to Illuminate Our Fall

Help with a build
 in  r/DnDBuilds  Feb 19 '25

Hexblade warlock multiclasses pretty well with other charisma-based classes, bard in particular works well with it, and if you can justify it backstory-wise (or if your DM is just cool with it) paladin with hexblade can be extremely broken.

Paquita la del Barrio, Iconic Mexican Singer, Dies at 77

Growing up I always thought she said "edificio malhecho" - as if she called him a "poorly built building"

But I love how just deeply poetically full of anger her lyrics are

If you could start a campaign tomorrow as a player, what would your character be?
 in  r/3d6  Feb 17 '25

I have a whole list of ideas I want to try, one big one though is a sea elf bard.

The idea for this character was inspired by every guide out there saying never play sea elf because it's bad and useless if you're not doing a strictly oceanic campaign - but then I thought what if that was their reason for adventuring? What if I had a sea elf who, for whatever reason, couldn't be near the sea? They long so greatly to return to the sea that all their songs are tinged with sorrow and yearning (which makes me want to possibly go College of Tragedy, but Glamour also feels appropriate). Of course, this would have to be worked out with the DM as to whether or not this would fit in the story/setting

Lunar TTRPG
 in  r/Lunar  Feb 01 '25

Ooooooh, I've also been doing some Lunar things in dnd. My homebrew campaign has a good bit of inspiration from Lunar, and in one of my friend's campaigns I'm playing a monk inspired by Jean (one of my all-time favorite video game characters).

I also tried coming up with how to build each character in 5e and had some fun but also difficulty with some aspects (beastmen and especially half beastmen don't really seem to correspond exactly with anything I can find precisely, maybe Vulpin?). The most confident one I have is Ghaleon: Shadar-kai Oathbreaker paladin/hexblade warlock.

The new College of Dance bard seems to literally be exactly perfect for Jean I think - a monk-like dancing bard without the conflicting monk abilities and absolute MADness for multiclassing it with anything else.

I'm definitely interested in seeing what you come up with, I don't think I've really seen anyone try putting anything from Lunar in dnd.

What do you think "Shards of Sky" means in Impermanence?
 in  r/Katatonia  Dec 30 '24

I think it ultimately means drops of water, though in this song more specifically I think it means tears.

The same sorta motif appears in Austerity as well, where I take it to mean raindrops.

Violent rain

Outside looking out

Looking up

Fragments of sky

[OC] I built Mariah Carey as a boss fight for my players. Every trait and ability is named after her songs.
 in  r/DnD  Dec 16 '24

I sent this to my dnd group chat before our Christmas-themed one shot today, not thinking the DM would use it and he did lmao. It was really fun! In the end, our paladin revived her and convinced her to switch to Halloween music

Where are my DM girlies at?

Thank Your Lucky Stars turns 9 years old today!

I mentioned not too long ago that this album came out right during my mom's last days, I can hardly describe how much this album helped in those times.

Afraid users who suddenly stopped scrobbling have died
 in  r/lastfm  Oct 09 '24

I noticed that a lot of people seemed to stop scrobbling around 2014/15 which coincides with the massive redesign of the site, so I think that is very often a big reason for the desertion. But yeah I won't lie I've seen some profiles that just randomly stopped like a year or two before and I wonder...

new fan, finished listening to all the studio albums... AMA
 in  r/Katatonia  Oct 05 '24

Curious on your thoughts on how Jonas's vocals developed over the years, epsecially the first albums where he mainly sings ("Discouraged Ones" and "Tonight's Decision")

Also really hope you enjoy their B-sides, there are some of their absolute best songs hidden there.

Appreciation post for my favorite beach house song rn!
 in  r/BeachHouse  Oct 05 '24

This album came out right when my mom was at the point of passing. When I listened to this song, it sounded like something she would've loved, so the song sorta reminds me of her in a way.

'Discøuraged Ønes' - Original or Revised Artwork?
 in  r/Katatonia  Oct 05 '24

IIRC the original image was a stock image, I presume that the revised one is an attempt at making the image more original. That said, I do like both, sometimes I like one more than the other at different times

Similar bands with “alt-rock era Katatonia“ sound
 in  r/Katatonia  Sep 24 '24

Woods 5 by Woods of Ypres I think often manages to capture this sound

3

Funny (or infamous) artist shoutbox?
 in  r/lastfm  Sep 03 '24

Woods of Ypres' shoutbox is a very interesting read that catalogues a lot of their history (frontman David Gold himself was extremely active on it and would interact with users a lot), if you start reading from the earliest pages, and then it becomes very very sad when you get to December 2011, after his tragic accident.

Just realized Hank's brother Junichiro attended Luanne's wedding

Didn't Junichiro have a career in robotics? I could see him being easily able to afford a flight to the US

What genera would Katatonia's more chill songs fall into?
 in  r/Katatonia  Aug 26 '24

Katatonia's trip-hop-ish songs would be ones like "Unfurl", "Lacquer", and some of the remixes, particularly the Urban Dub of "In the White"

What genera would Katatonia's more chill songs fall into?
 in  r/Katatonia  Aug 25 '24

I've generally recommended artists like Sevdaliza and Perdition City-era Ulver, I also highly recommend (and can't believe I never thought to recommend before) mid 90s Depeche Mode (Songs of Faith and Devotion but especially Ultra). Oh and bonus Duran Duran
