David Lynch and Deep Bliss
 in  r/transcendental  3d ago

Theravadin Buddhists call "bliss" using the word "piti" (Pali language). Piti is a component of the lower jhana states. In general, I would suggest TM is not jhana meditation.

DeSantis announces support as Florida Senate takes up ‘chemtrails’ bill
 in  r/skeptic  3d ago

That would make them even stupider than Ohio. However, I suspect this is yet another Republican distraction to keep us from looking at the man behind the curtain.

Why are so many people into astrology?
 in  r/skeptic  3d ago

This is called "magical thinking." People believe what they want to believe, and they make excuses for it. (You see the same in politics.)

Can we talk about going to the chiropractor for a minute?
 in  r/skeptic  6d ago

Pseudoscience. People expect improvement, so if they have ANY improvement, they experience confirmation bias. I am not sure anybody but a gifted physician could help from the medical side. You might also consider an LMT or a physical therapist.

The CDC buried a measles forecast that stressed the need for vaccinations. The move is a sign that the public health agency may be falling in line under RFK Jr.
 in  r/skeptic  9d ago

On the other hand, why wait for some governmental agency to recommend it? I don't recall ever waiting for this kind of advice. We can ignore this lawyer as long as the biotechs and the pharmaceutical companies produce vaccines.

Really, Kaiser? You're pushing acupuncture on me now?
 in  r/skeptic  10d ago

You are dead on right. It would have been an instance of confirmation bias.

Maine officials won’t comply with the Trump administration's trans athlete ban
 in  r/Maine  10d ago

The long-term solution involves dropping the addiction to Title 1 money from the feds. Apparently, this approach has been the policy in New Hampshire for years ("Live free, or die").

Is it possible to use the legal system to force RFK Jr. out of his position at HHS?
 in  r/skeptic  10d ago

I feel sorry for the kids. The toxicity of vitamin A is well-known. Why aren't these parents charged with negligence?

Any way to hide this, i mistakenly click this many times and it sucks!!
 in  r/chrome  14d ago

Once I discovered the down-caret in Chrome, I no longer pursued vertical tabs.

Suburban hell (boredom).

What would you do if during the second round of a job interview you were asked to take the "Enneagram personality test"
 in  r/skeptic  14d ago

The enneagram is similar to the MBTI and DISC. You describe yourself using the questionnaire, and then you receive a label ("seeker," "dominator," etc.). Sometimes, these tests can be eery. The labels have whatever meaning you give them; after all, you just told the "test" a lot about yourself.

The Fear Merchant: How Trump Sold a Nation to Itself
 in  r/skeptic  15d ago

"Normal" equates to average, so-so, ho-hum, dreary, middle-of-the-road boredom. I always wonder what conservatives are conserving. (Nothing worth saving).

Amazon Alexa will no longer offer the "Do Not Send Voice Recordings" setting starting March 28 2025
 in  r/privacy  15d ago

We used that feature. Two months ago we reset to default settings and unplugged it. I guess we were prescient!

You want a collapse? You can get a collapse. Stop having kids.
 in  r/economicCollapse  17d ago

Many professions (e.g., welding) do not require a college degree. "Go to school, get a good job" is another way to become a wage slave, which is the topic of the discussion.

This is probably not a good liminal photo but I found it in my gallery so why not.
 in  r/LiminalSpace  19d ago

Given the meaning of "limen," this one is perfect!

PSA: Amazon Alexa discontinuing Do Not Send Voice Recordings

I disconnected mine a month ago. Something was "listening." I don't care if that is paranoia or not.

First, look at inflation. What dollars are those numbers? Second, regardless, you are right.

Sun City Pickers (Clean Up! El Paso)
 in  r/ElPaso  27d ago

I did my own little bit on Caprock this morning. Some irresponsible individual keeps throwing those "Buzz" ball bottles on the walkway. Also, beer cans and more.

GM sued for selling driver data to insurers
 in  r/privacy  Mar 07 '25

My last GM product was a Chevy Citation in 1981. After that dismal experience in low reliability and recalls, I swore I would never own another GM product. 44 years later and no GM products. I drive Subarus, which a consumer organization recently rated as the #1 car company.

Amid Texas’s measles outbreak and deaths, vaccine resistance hardens in Seminole. “We’re not going to harm our children or [risk] the potential to harm our children,” [Kaleigh Brantner] said, “so that we can save yours.”
 in  r/skeptic  Mar 05 '25

Not to mention misinformed, quasi-literates. That social media article they reviewed must be the truth or it wouldn't be allowed, would it? Yeah, right. Meanwhile, they fill their kids with convenience food garbage and wonder why they are obese and diabetes-prone. Also, the logic in the person's statement is circular (fallacy).

In a discussion, MAGA’s get to make the rules and change the rules of engagement and we’re expected to constantly bend to those rules while not being allowed to amend them ourselves. Fr losing my mind with all the baseless hate stirred up from a Trump presidency, and don’t know how to encounter it.
 in  r/skeptic  Mar 02 '25

Ask them to provide THEIR numbers if you decide to bother with these knotheads at all. Some of them fold when challenged this way. Sadly, not too many of these dolts will collapse.
