Laser technician said I can get laser on my face without stopping tret. Should I trust her ?
 in  r/tretinoin  26d ago

I used to be a licensed aesthetician, not an RN, but I worked for a laser company called American laser center about 15 years ago. The company has since dissolved and no longer exists because of their poor business practices, and in order to make a sale, the sales manager of the clinic would tell people they didn’t have to stop using any medications that made them photos sensitive, and then when they would come in for their treatments we would ask our clients if they had been using any antibiotics or retinoids in the last 7 days and if they answered, yes we would have to send them home. Especially since you have only been on the medication for two months, I highly recommend getting a second opinion or pushing out your appointment. A laser burn is no joke, I don’t know if you’ve ever experienced it before, but it is painful and it is not pretty.

Anyone get tiny whiteheads from any of these products?
 in  r/tretinoin  Mar 06 '25

I know it’s supposed to be non-comedogenic, but my skin didn’t apparently think so. I haven’t had good luck with any Anua products though. I know people who swear by the brand and love it and have zero issues but it’s just one of those brands that my skin doesn’t care for.

I used the Anua rice toner and all of a sudden I started getting the tiniest bumps on my temples and in between my eyebrows, as soon as I stopped, they went away.

If you aren't sleeping with a humidifier, DO IT!
 in  r/tretinoin  Feb 03 '25

This!! I don’t think a humidifier recommendation is given enough when people are asking how to ease their adjustment period to tret. I just figured this one out within the last six weeks and you are absolutely correct, it’s a game changer, especially in the winter time!

Advice for getting & starting tret?
 in  r/tretinoin  Jan 25 '25

So, if possible, speak with your PCP or dermatologist. If either of those are not an option, I highly recommend Amazon pharmacy. Once the initial online consultation is done, The medication price is pretty inexpensive. I’m not sure what kind of skin type you have, but I recommend starting out on .025%. I started out on .05% and it took my skin twice as long to get used to it and I went through a lot of tough times. If you start low, you can always bump up to a higher strength when you feel your skin is ready. My holy Grail product with tret has been La Roche Posay Citaplast B5 balm and the sandwich method. The sandwich method is basically wash your face, apply moisturizer. Wait 15 minutes, apply tretinoin, wait 15 minutes, then more moisturizer. I wasn’t doing that at first, and then when I started using the sandwich method with citaplast, my irritation was practically eliminated. Everyone’s skin is different and that is why I highly recommend starting at .025% and going from there

But what happened to making America affordable again?
 in  r/LeopardsAteMyFace  Dec 12 '24

Funny, you should mention energy prices. This is going to be a disaster for people in West Tennessee. Their energy prices will go up and it will make their already relatively unstable grid even more unstable.

Oh, I didn’t believe it, but apparently a third of the country did which is confounding. “What do you mean this person who is a well know liar lied to me??”

Now that Trump has been chosen as Time’s person of the year, he admits that he in fact, cannot bring down grocery prices, or any prices for that matter. Which is unfortunate considering that the majority of people that voted for him, voted for him hoping for cheaper everything, will now be the ones hardest hit by his policies.

In the mornings, I just rinse my face with warm water and then a toner and then depending on how dry I am, (the weather has been really cold and windy here) so I’ve been using Citaplast combined with either vanicream or La roche-Posay toleriane during the day. Then, in the evenings I wash with La roche-posay toleriane gentle cleanser, follow with a toner and then the toleriane Double repair moisturizer wait 15 minutes, tret, then wait 10 min, I always apply moisturizer and citaplast together after tret. I’ll use Aquaphor as needed, like if I notice peeling, I know that I need to apply Aquaphor to my face 5 to 10 minutes before I go to bed. For a while I was applying Aquaphor before bed 3 to 4 times a week, now it’s maybe once a week.

One week in - rash
 in  r/tretinoin  Dec 02 '24

If you just started using tretinoin, and you’re using it nightly during week one, you’ve likely disrupted your skin barrier and that is what is causing the rash. The gel is also known it be slightly more irritating then the cream as it absorbs into the skin much faster. I recognize the rash because I also did too much too soon and destroyed my skin barrier. I had to remove all actives then strip my routine down to warm water in the mornings, then a toner, moisturizer, and sunscreen, then in the evenings, a very gentle cleanser with toner and moisturizer, and go completely off Tretinoin for one week. La Roche Posay Citaplast B5 balm and aquaphor helped immensely when healing the red itchy rash like patches around my jawline.

When I started using tretinoin again, I used it 2-3 nights a week for the first 2 weeks just to be careful and kept the simple, stripped down routine and started using sandwich method. Now I cleanse, tone, moisturize, wait 15 minutes, Tretinoin, wait 15 minutes, moisturize again. I have worked back up to nightly use with maybe one night off and I have only experienced a very mild bout of peeling, but I attribute that to the dry cold windy weather I’m experiencing where I live. Citaplast is a life saver in cold weather, and I’m so glad I stopped cleansing every morning. I feel like that and the Citaplast has helped My skin heal a lot quicker.

When did de peeling stop and what kind of skin do you have? If I put make up on, and touch even the slightest my face, it peels. I’ve been on tret 3 months. Does it ever end?
 in  r/tretinoin  Nov 28 '24

So I use Dermalogica pre-cleanse at night then La Roche-Posay Toleriane Hydrating Gentle Cleanser. Depending on how my skin feels, I either use Missha Time Revolution 5X or COSRX 6X Peptide Collagen Booster Toner, both are very hydrating, but I don’t use the CosRX toner on nights that I use tretinoin. During the day I yes Vanicream and EltaMD restore tinted sunscreen and then at night I use La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair moisturizer. My dermatologist recommended the La Roche-Posay products and they have been a life saver for me personally.

It didn’t stop for me, until I destroyed my skin barrier, went off of it for a week then incorporated Citaplast B5 balm. I stopped washing my face with soap in the morning and now I just rinse with warm water. I also eliminated all the actives from my routine and began using the sandwich method. I went bare bones and the peeling has seemingly stopped. For me personally, it appears to have been a combination of lack of hydration and doing too much too soon. Sidenote, I struggled with peeling for about five months off and on, mostly on.

**edit to add that I have combination skin, but the areas outside of my T zone were the areas that were peeling, especially around my chin. If anything, I learned that my T zone is only kind of oily while the rest of my skin is a little bit dry.

Botox will definitely soften those and prevent them from progressing. I’m 37 and I have similar lines on my forehead, and I am seriously considering doing “Baby Botox“ which is where you just get 20 to 25 units just to see how you like it. Everyone I know that started in the 20 to 30 unit range worked up to getting more, but from photos and people I know that are getting it done, 20 to 30 units seems to be the sweet spot where it softens the lines and smooths your skin, but it doesn’t give you that “Botox face” look.

I feel like most people don’t like the strong stuff but this has done wonders for my skin!
 in  r/tretinoin  Aug 26 '24

Check for GoodRX coupons for both Tretinoin and Retin-A because when I filled my last prescription, Retin-A ended up being $30 cheaper than Tretinoin with the coupon! They’re the exact same thing just different names and I have no idea why locally the namebrand is cheaper than the generic, maybe there’s a higher demand for the generic around here? * edited to add that I paid $35 for a 45 g tube which is the three month supply. Also worth checking Amazon pharmacy. I haven’t personally used them, but I’ve seen the pricing and before transferring my prescription, the pricing looks pretty low.

Waiting 30 minutes to apply tretinoin is wreaking havoc in my routine.
 in  r/tretinoin  Aug 17 '24

So I was told by my dermatologist that you should wait 15 to 20 minutes before applying moisturizer after Tret so that it absorbs into your skin and isn’t diluted by serums and moisturizers.

Did my nails after a long depressive episode. I can’t tell if I hate it
 in  r/Nails  Aug 16 '24

Omg they are absolutely gorgeous!! I LOVE the color you chose!! I personally always go for blues, greens, teals, purples, and that color is one of the loveliest shades of blue I’ve seen, that’s totally a color I would get. I am a huge fan of long nails. Also, the almond shaping is perfect for your fingers.

Can we talk about sunscreen and vit D?
 in  r/30PlusSkinCare  Aug 16 '24

You absolutely did not do this to yourself, vitamin D deficiencies are extremely common. I’ve had a vitamin D deficiency for practically my entire adult life and it wasn’t until the last 4 to 5 years that I started being diligent with sunscreen. Before then, I spent a lot of time in the sun, sunscreen free 😖, and still had low vitamin D levels. Taking Whatever vitamin D supplement your physician prescribes you will raise your levels, and you will be perfectly fine. You don’t have to stop the extra sun protection that you do.

New to Tretinoin
 in  r/tretinoin  Aug 16 '24

I have been using Tretinoin for similar reasons. I am 37 years old and started to notice that my skin texture had become a little rough due to years of sun exposure and aging in general and I was getting fine lines in certain places on my face and in my experience, if anything, it has lightened and brightened my skin. You absolutely must wear sunscreen every day whether you’re going outside or not and wearing sunscreen every day prevents the sun damage that darkens your skin. When I first started out on tretinoin, I noticed my skin was minimally darker in certain spots, but it went away after a couple of weeks when my skin started to really adjust to the medication. If you have dry skin and you want to start a Tretinoin routine, I highly highly recommend incorporating a heavy duty moisturizer as well as cleansers and serums that are very moisturizing. I have oily skin and for the first eight weeks, I peeled and was so dry. A thin layer of Aquaphor over My moisturizer at night before bed on the areas that were peeling did a world of good for the dry patches on my face when I first started out. I had to get prior authorization from my insurance to cover the medication, so I recommend checking with your insurance first to see if they cover it and/or require prior authorization. I recommend trying to get that before filling your first prescription. If you can’t get it covered by your insurance, GoodRx has some really great coupons on Retin-A & Tretinoin (Retin-A and Tretinoin are the exact same medication with the only difference being that Retin-A is a brand-name and Tretinoin is the generic. Both medications are equally effective and the only reason to choose one over the other would be one of them being cheaper than the other). In my area right now, Retin-A with GoodRX is cheaper than the GoodRX pricing for Tretinoin so that’s what I have because I didn’t get my prior authorization until after I got my first tube. If you get tretinoin from one of the online pharmacies, such as Ro or Nurx or the like, those pharmacies generally charge a consultation fee on top of whatever they charge for the medication, be sure to choose one of the online pharmacies that accepts GoodRX coupons because with the coupons you can often times save 50% or more off the cost of the medication. You would basically be paying $35-$50 for a 3 month supply instead of $75-$90.

Do you apply Tret on your neck?
 in  r/tretinoin  Aug 14 '24

I apply to my neck and chest. I did notice that it took my neck a little longer to adjust. When I was just starting out, I would put it on my face neck and chest once a week and then just apply to my face and chest the other two days a week. I am on week nine now, and I am applying to my face neck and chest nightly.
