GDKPs in SOD Moving Foward

I have been running GDKPs and a main LC guild for more than 3 years now, and after doing both, there's no way I'm going back to running a traditional guild again. GDKP solves the central problems with Pugging/Guilds, and if Gold buying/selling was actually banned, it would be the best loot system by far.

I'm hosting a SOD GDKP summit for those on Crusader Strike Horde in an attempt to be able to continue this loot system moving forward. If Blizzard doesn't change course, talking about GDKPs publicly in-game will get you banned after phase 2 launch, so now is the time to establish a centralized place to find/create runs out of game.

Please join me on https://discord.gg/aZDzQbSK . The discussion will happen on Friday, February 4th at 7pm Pacific, 10pm Atlantic time.

Auto Adjust Font Size to Fit Text Box When Using Variables (Data Sets)

I'm working on a project where the Variables are edited using a CSV file. Everything is working well; expect I can't figure out how to scale Text size to fit the established text box size. Text is either too small to fit the area (looks tiny), or there's too much text and it gets cut off.

Is there any way to do this? Ideally it can get bigger and smaller to fit the box as best as possible.

Thanks in advance!

Discussion What We Need to See with Heroic+ Dungeons

Heroic+ Dungeons coming to classic WOTLK

Blizzard has said that they plan to implement Heroic+ dungeons into WOTLK in order to extend the life of the content, keep them somewhat challenging throughout the expansion, and add rewards to incentivize people coming back to them phase after phase.

What they've told us so far:More difficult version can be enabled for higher difficulty and better rewardWill drop 10 man raid loot from the previous raid tier

My thoughts on Heroic+ Being added to WOTLK

I think the goals and intentions for heroic+ will be an excellent addition to classic WOTLK. WOTLK heroics have historically been known as extremely easy, even from the beginning, and beyond the pre-raid item rewards for alts and the daily heroic quest, there is very little incentive to continue running them later into the expansion.

The addition of Heroic+ should certainly extend their life and intrigue, but there's a few concerns about their possible implementation which could hold them back from being a 5man form of difficult, replayable content.

  1. If there is only 1 difficulty, it will likely be too easy to be considered a challenge
  2. The item rewards (10 man raid loot from the previous tier) will give reasons to run Heroic+ dungeons, but will kill the incentive to run 10/25 man raids from the previous tier
  3. If the "plus" of Heroic+ is simply health and damage buffs, it won't go far enough to make the content interesting/challenging

What Needs to Happen for Heroic+ to Achieve its Goals

  1. If heroic+ only has one difficulty setting, you end up in a situation where its either too hard for casual players to realistically complete, or too simple for sweaty players. Similar to why Heroic and Normal raids were implemented, there is too large of a skill gap between players for a singular difficulty level to please everyone.

The most obvious solution to this problem is to add a scaling difficulty to the mode, similar to Mythic+. There doesn't need to be any additional rewards, so long as there is a way to track/sharea group's accomplishments with others, either through achievements or a leaderboard of some sort. This allows more casual players to challenge themselves and receive a reward for their effort, while giving more try-hard players the incentive to optimize and push through the highest challenge they can handle.

  1. Rewarding 10 man raid loot from the previous tier is problematic for a number of reasons.

  2. It disincentives people from chasing loot, because they know it will become moreeasily available in the next tier

  3. It ruins the lifespan of 10/25 man 'old' raid content, because the same reward can befound in smaller, more accessible Heroics. It also makes 25 man raids less viable, because 10 mans will just be a better source of that loot due to being able to run 2.5times as many lockouts for the raiders in 10 man.

  4. It removes some level of prestige from items because people can assume it wasachieved in heroics instead of raids themselves

The solution to this issue is relatively simple. Just use the same heroic loot tables, but buff the item level on the items to be on par with 10 man loot from the previous raid tier (similar to what is being done with ulduar items). Though this may create some confusion due to having 2 of thesame item with different stats, we already have a precedent for this with Heroic and Normal lootvariations.

Not only does this solve the above issues, it also creates more unique/interesting gear decisions when there is more available viable loot. People's BiS lists may change slightly, and there can bemore experimentation with items than we've seen in WOTLK's past.

  1. If health and damage buffs are the only sliding scale of challenge, it will make them dull very quickly. The solution to this is to add/modify mechanics for bosses and create modifiers that can apply dungeon-wide. While this will require some degree of effort to design and implement, the system itself is likely to lose all interest extremely quickly if the only changes and buffs to health and damage. Simple health and damage buffs also create more class/composition restrictions, as opposed to alternative mechanics which can allow less-meta classes to find a niche use.

If these three central changes are made, I truly believe it will fit into the existing WOTLK expansion better, allow for more player choice/gameplay, and create a level of discovery which classic wow hasn't had up until now.

Sure you weren't AFKing in BGs? Lots of people seem to think it's not bannable, but it totally is. And should be.

The Feral raid meta with or without 2.4 powershifting
 in  r/classicwow  May 18 '21

Shred costs 60 energy (42 with talent), meaning if you have no energy, no wolfshead helm, and you powershift, you'll have to wait for an entire energy tick to shred.

You're also ignoring the fact that feral cat and feral bear have VERY different stat priorities, especially early on. If you gear as a cat and switch bear to tank, you will die. If you gear as a tank and sit in cat, you will do no damage. You have to go into the fight knowing which one you're doing.

For cat dps, Wolfshead will still be meta (regardless of if they change how energy ticks work). Bears never use it, cause they need the stats/defense on helm, and they dont shift while tanking.

How will wpvp be handled on such a massive server with so little space to spread out?
 in  r/Grobbulus  May 18 '21

Isn't this the choice you made when you rolled on a pvp server? Seems like a silly thing to be worried about - If you're that concerned, go to a pve server

8 hour maintenance scheduled for tuesday, PTR build (batching changes + world buff pokeball) just got marked as 'release'. Possible patch day Tuesday?
 in  r/classicwow  Apr 19 '21

For all intents and purposes, you're playing on classic era realms now - All that happens in TBC is that your classic characters will be copied onto new TBC realms. Classic realms are already 'classic era' realms, as nothing will happen to them upon TBC prepatch/release

First unsheathe your weapons, then drag the weapon you want to duplicate ontop of your other weapon (only works for dual wielding). Press sheathe again and at the exact time, let go of the weapon you're dragging to switch it from one hand to the other. Sit down, unsheathe again, and you should have 2 of the same weapon.

Once you've done that, all you do is equip the third weapon in the slot where your duplicated weapon is (no need for the sitting or unsheathing)

Was voted to get 2nd thunderfury by the raid team in phase 1, was given first THC by the main tank, and was given 3rd gressil as after a vote from loot council (which I didn't partake in)

Sometimes when you're not an asshole, people value you :)

Drum Changes Which Actually Impact the Meta

It really isn't.... rogues and enh shamans use Primal Strike into T5. Same with ele with netherstrike, and same with hunters for ebon netherscale

Is it that surprising that in a game where we have unlimited information and knowledge, the only thing people have left to strive for is maximizing their potential?

There are plenty of guilds that won't require any of it. They'll struggle more for sure, but I agree they'll still clear content eventually. If you have min-maxing, there are definitely communities available for you. But don't force the min-maxers to have a bland game because you don't like it.

Im not going to get my pre-bis gear as a tank. No im not! Well if raiding guilds wont invite me its the way it is

See how that logic is a bit ridiculous? Its a team game, and you're essentially saying as an athlete that you want to skip leg day

In a discussion revolving around min-maxing (drums), youre trying to argue that T4 'is only barely worse'. That doesn't matter - it's not the best.

Those classes want to remain LW until deep into T5 - doesnt matter that your raid team is okay with you not being optimal b/c you can't afford it

So rogues and enhance shamans won't go LW for primalstrike?
Ele shams won't go LW for Netherstrike?
Tank druids won't go LW for Clefthoof?

Yes, there is less of a reason to go LW after T5 content (~4-6 months after release), but even then, if drums are BoE, someone needs to be the LW that makes all the drums every raid team is using. It becomes a money profession

No one is arguing Mining is a dead profession because it gives no in-game powerlevel bonus
