technically yeah i guess cuz its harming you but its the intention behind it that really matters ig

i think it temporarily stops you from addressing the larger problems that have been on your mind, or the core issue. it takes away the pain temporarily and gives you a sense of comfort that you did something about it. it doesnt actually cure anything or make anything better, its just a coping mechanism. for me personally for example, the sight of blood would lead to an adrenaline rush, the physical pain would overtake the emotional and mental pain and i would feel happy after putting myself through that pain thinking i did something about my issues. it doesnt help though, because once the adrenaline weared off i was back to square one and i realised that SH didnt reduce my problem. at the end of the day its an addiction, you cant live without it and it gives you a false sense of promise and hope that can be felt as liberating. i speak from my personal experience here so this may not resonate with everyone :)
