“The WW2 narrative that Japan was evil during WW2 is based on US propaganda.”
 in  r/AmericaBad  15h ago

Might've been a lot worse if there was a conventional invasion.

A cartoon can make a good argument, like any medium. This is absolutely not one. It's like

It's convenient to believe the right is willfully evil AND stupidly bigoted. It's a flattering story.

I keep thinking of that one joke in the Boondocks. About a certain type of Moment.

Found on a post talking about what U.S. cities you will never visit.
 in  r/AmericaBad  17h ago

Wait a second. Last time I checked, those cities weren't "acceptable", but anyone trying to change them has to deal with inertia and corruption and lack of resources.

America is apparently “fascist” for having bases in Europe
 in  r/AmericaBad  17h ago

I have literally seen antifa supporters act like anyone who questions them, even "are you sure that person was a Nazi?" is an "enabler", and therefore also fair game for punching.

Which just proves the point, really.

I'm a black immigrant and vocal anti-authortiarian, and somehow I'm a Nazi enabler because I don't think antifa does a good job of finding or stopping 88ers.

So am I. Especially these days, when a pro-immigration immigrant trying to reduce the size of the government is called a fascist because he (checks notes) waved.

"Letting another country build a base on your land, with permission, makes you a tributary state and colony of the other state."

Nice argument, Senator....

“The only good parts of America are due to the countless bad acts they’ve enacted in the rest of the world.”

I like how not a single one of them has a specific criticism. Only vague generalizations.

The US went out of its way to help rebuild Japan.

slavery, settler colonialism, capitalism, & post WW2 empire building.

Even though absolutely none of those are unique to America.

🤦 "Take that republicans!" ---- What are they even talking about anymore they have nothing
 in  r/TheLeftCantMeme  22h ago

"Right wing people point out our side's inconsistent standards so they look more correct!"

Yes, and? Having consistent standards, even if they're wrong, just looks better than contradicting yourself.

Especially if you're just doing it out of knee-jerk hatred for whatever the other guy supports. Which, you'll note, the TRCM poster never actually addresses.

I also like how the title doesn't have any actual criticism, only an attacked on an assumed right-winger.

Also the trend of "defacing" right wing memes is still pathetic.

I think the idea is that the right voted for Trump knowing he would harm the left (by harming everyone).

In reality, Trump voters mostly just thought Biden didn't do a good job, and Harris would be more of the same.

This comic is entirely making up a man to be smug at.

"Superman doesn't kill in the comics!"

"Here's an example of Superman killing the comics, in a situation very similar to the one you're complaining about."

"That doesn't count, for reasons I totally didn't just make up."

Okay and you haven't read the comics.

That's a handwave, not an actual response to a single point made.

Snyder fans are easily dismissable because you people completely ignore the source material and praise the guy who actively wanted to make characters like Superman and Batman kill. This doesn't make for deep commentary, it's just spitting on the core of what the characters stand for.

You're missing the point. Having to kill Zod is precisely why he doesn't want to kill anyone else, ever.

If you're going to argue "the writers shouldn't put him in that situation!", then you're just saying an invincible man shouldn't face common moral challenges you don't like. Which is...kind of leaving a lot of complexity out.

Speaking of source material, here's a bunch of times Superman killed people in the comics. Number 11 should be very familiar.
