Any beach camping in Miami or Florida?
 in  r/Miami  5d ago

Bahia Honda in the keys has camping really close to their beach. It's hard to get reservations. The mosquitos aren't a big problem but the noseeums will eat you alive at sunset. Flamingo in ENP has camping near water but don't dip a toe in it. It's clean water but turbid and the gators aren't your worry...the crocodiles don't bother you either. It's the hungry bullsharks you need to worry about. There is beach camping available in North Florida at several state parks

Any advice for a cheaper but good bidet?
 in  r/bidets  6d ago

I own 1 vsimilar to the brondell SMB -25. It's ultra simple to install the cold water only version and is foolproof. There is almost nothing that can break and it's chrome in brass abd if you wash the piss off of it occasionally it doesn't corrode. The dual temp is around 129. The cold version is 99

Leaked Pentagon file says US will not step in to help Europe if Russia attacks
 in  r/europe  6d ago

America will help Europe. The current Nazi resident of the White House will not. He's working directly for Russia helping dismantle Nato. He dreams of splitting the world into 3 pieces...There's a reason his buddy Elon visits with Putin all the time. If they are not stopped our democracy is history

How many dad's changed diapers in the 70s and 80s.
 in  r/AskOldPeople  6d ago

Every dad who was really a dad. There are no reasons why an actual dad who still has the use of his hands not to change their own child's diapers. Sperm doners are another story entirely...but why would any woman keep a Sperm Doner around? Men who love the pussy but can't be bothered with raising their own child should be run through the wood chipper and fed to the hogs.  Feet 1st into the chipper so they get to enjoy the fun too

All those pics made me wonder if sexual activities and/ or a public boner are allowed/ normalised at Haulover?
 in  r/hauloverunrestricted  11d ago

It's not a good thing. Those of us who have supported this beach for years and contributed money regularly to SFFB to send lawyers to Tallahassee every year to fight the right-wing efforts to make nudity on any beach illegal oppose any blatant sexual activity on our beach. All it takes is 1 loony legislator ...and there are more than a few...who supports the current powers in Tallahassee to take it on as a cause and Haulover Beach is done. We aren't prudes. We don't want to lose what we have over stupid dick pics.

If you settled for the one you married, are you happily in a long-term marriage?
 in  r/AskOldPeople  14d ago

It was...I call it getting struck by lightening. We are both very strong willed people and after college we both had extremely demanding high stress careers. There have been some rough spots in our 62 years together but under it all was a solid base of trust and respect. And boy oh boy..the crazy adventures we've had together. And the laughter...tears too but you don't live this long without loss in your life.

How to cure this?
 in  r/hygiene  14d ago

Won't cure fungus but when you get a new antifungal treatment only wear pants when required and make sure they are loose, light weight, and airy. Burn your underwear. It holds in moisture and heat ...as a young guy I had chronic jock itch I couldn't stop. Nasty, stinky, painful stuff. I ditched the thick Levi's and underwear and it went away never to return. I'm talking no issues for 40 years. Burn your underwear...make it an event. Invite your friends...play Jimmy Buffetts" Pencil Thin Mustashe". ...Now I'm getting old, I don't wear underwear...I don't go to church and I don't cut my hair...smart guy that Jimmy...

I saw her at a buddy's house when we were 15. 62 years later I still remember that day. We were talking earlier today about that day in my buddy's back yard. What a blessing and a comfort to have a relationship like the one we've had.

Lawmakers fear DOGE cuts will drive away next generation of federal workers
 in  r/NoShitSherlock  14d ago

That's the idea. Deconstruct the government. Exsize the institutional knowledge. Leave only enough staff in place to guarantee failure. And demonize every public employee. While you're at it get rid of SS and Medicare, defined retirement plans, and any and all social safety nets. Oh yeah...and labor unions. Leave poor frightened workers with no protection willing to work for peanuts 120 hours a week ( great idea elon) and knowing better than to complain. Keep the rich rich as God intended Let us prey...

JUST IN: Elon Musk announces he is launching a lawsuit after former Rep. Jamaal Bowman called him a “thief” and a “Nazi” on live television. The comment from Bowman came last night on CNN. “I've had enough. Lawsuit inbound,” Musk said in response to the video clip below.

I'll try....that Nazi salute looked legit to me and the muskyman is a world class drug addled asshole. Maybe the biggest self important prick in the universe. I wouldn't drive a muskyman car if it was given to me and I celebrate every time his rockets explode.

Marco Island Beaches suck - or am I wrong?
 in  r/Naples_FL  24d ago

We fished from the beach on Big Marco Pass at night with a big Smokey fire. When the bugs got too bad we'd run down the beach to get away from the cloud of bugs and then stand in the smoke for a while...then back to fishing until they got too hungry again....some fun!

Marco Island Beaches suck - or am I wrong?
 in  r/Naples_FL  25d ago

I 1st went to Marco Island with my dad in the late 50s..fished on the beach with a big camp fire. Then drove there in the early 60s with my GF...16 yr old's paradise with miles of deserted Beach. Then 1 day I saw the developers big sign with an arrow pointing at an empty eagles nest, got pissed off at the destruction of my personal paradise, and vowed never to return until I had enough dynamite. I kept that promise for 50 years. My wife ( the little 16 yr old GF who I took there) wanted to see it so I took her again. Maybe someone's paradise now but not mine. I won't go back. Read Carl Haaison's book "Sick Puppy." I swear he read my mind...that has to be Marco he's writing about

Key west recommendations
 in  r/jimmybuffett  27d ago

The streets are there as are most of the buildings. But JIMMY'S key West of the late 60s and early 70s no longer exists. Like Coconut Grove in Miami. Those were magical places and magical times. I still visit and enjoy a lot of the people and places but it just ain't the same...the whining of a very old Hippie sailor subsisting on wonderful memories

If Elon or Trump were to ever make a Bluesky, should they be banned on the spot?

FLORIDA WANTS TO ELIMINATE PROPERTY TAXES!
 in  r/AskFlorida  29d ago

Actually Florida (FlaGOP) wants to end public school funding...those pesky public school teachers teach science and history ....and facts. We all know that science, history, and facts have a liberal bias and contradict the MAGA gospel. You know...Slaves were migrant workers who had it good...dinosaur fossils were put here by God to test our faith and belief that the creation as told in the bible happened 6,000 years ago.

Fireflies in Florida?
 in  r/florida  29d ago

We have really bizarre looking "fireflies" in South Fla with glowing green or red eyes. The last time I saw real fireflies was when I took my boy camping at Manatee Springs during spring break. Every night they would rise up out of the pine straw by the thousands....magical

Older people of Reddit, how long does anger usually stay with you? Has this changed over the decades?
 in  r/AskOldPeople  Mar 06 '25

I've been retired 20 years. I've done the work. I called it chiping away the brick wall around my heart. I can finally cry and feel loving hugs. But it's still there and the slightest bit of anger is a problem still

 in  r/AskOldPeople  Mar 06 '25

My job was investigating child sexual abuse. I stayed angry for 30 years...it took its toll. Now getting angry makes me physically sick. I avoid the news and have excised everyone and anything that pisses me off from my life. Anger is poison.
