Right wing women are not the oppressed little handmaids that liberals make them out to be.
the entire american culture wars are a bunch of bullshit. hysterical blue hairs women screaming about social justice is a caricature and so is repressed baby factory right women.
ignore all of this.

Really disappointed with the ending
I actualy liked the ending. however, at no point did I think that James Franco or Maggie Gyllenhaal were the most interesting characters. They weren't even close.

No, America isn't going to collapse anytime soon.
obviously. the US economy is huge, it has grown huge over hundreds of years. Trump will damage it, he will damage America's reputation. But it will still be huge.

South of Midnight Community Manager: "White Male Gamers Were a Mistake"
I think that the peak time for people who use phrases like 'messages on behalf of marginalised communities..' was 2020. talking like this now is a good way to turn people away in droves.

Fine Gael Minister Peter Burke denies crisis in Irish tourism as visitor numbers drop
I hate when people try to complicate of deny problems. Ireland is a rip off. hotelier and publicans and others rip off consumers. the government has failed over decades to reign this in with regulation - probably because they usually allow businesses to write their own regulations. Another factor is the obscene amount of irish economic output that winds up with landlords; this also drives up costs for service providers - but this isn't the entirety of the problem.

Latest polls FF 25%(+3%) SF 21%(NC) FG 21%(-1%)
there is no other serious option. Martin is a good politician, he has gravitas and integrity. the FG guy is a lightweight.
But still, there is no one else. the left wing parties are a joke; there is no way our economy could be entrusted to them. Which is not my way of saying that i think the government is competent on housing, but it plainly fucking isnt. It also isn't competent at running an efficient public sector. but then the other parties would be even worse.

If the Internet disappeared overnight, would pubs have a resurgence?
no. because <a> young people are more health conscious these days and <b> they got to greedy and started charging fucking insane money - somehow the word got around that owning a pub should make you rich.

Some differences and historical inaccuracies in Assassin's Creed Shadows
I mean, to be honest, I can forgive a lot of that - because I don't expect historical accuracy in an Assassin's Creed game. What i can't forgive is making a game about fucking murder into some sort of morality lecture for modern audiences - this kind of arrogance was only signed off because Ubisoft's share price was so high in 2020 that because this sort of shit was winning applause at the time. What I also can't forgive is having a game that is repetitive and boring and basically just a reskin of other games that you have been releasing since 2016 (the year Origins came out).

Looks like $46M+ FRI for #MinecraftMovie, giving it $57M opening day. Expecting $150M or so weekend.
this is going to go gangbusters. every kid has to see it. the movie is unashamedly daft and fun. it looks like its the perfect formula - it will serve to make Snow White tank even more. SAdly Snow White got just about everything wrong, I would not like to be one of its producers.

Mixed race in Ireland
I think this is a huge issue and I have posted about it here before. basically we have had big cohorts of immigration since the 90s. from west africa, south asia, east asia and of course eastern europe. These all settled and did well - weveryone was very happy with it.
Then about 4 years ago some genius had the idea to encourage way more refugees/asylum seekers to come her than had been coming. this was done in the middle of a housing crisis when we were already (rightfully and properly) accepting huge numbers of Ukrainian refugees. Forget about the morality of the situation, this was always going to cause problems. This is exactly the opening the far right was waiting for and it was handed to them on a platter. beacuse of this absurd policy, all of the successful integration over the past decades is at risk.
For what it's worth, you are Irish. as irish as I am. whether you like it or not!

Germany Turns to U.S. Playbook: Deportations Target Gaza War Protesters (two of four targeted individuals are Irish)
he was arrested for not moving on when asked to. it is also implied that he attempted to prevent cops from arresting other people. he was also charged with calling a cop a fascist.

why are you putting that in inverted commas? The Ottoman Empire was the government and had been for hundreds of years. Jewish groups bought land and adhered to laws set out by the Ottoman government. then they moved there in a way that was approved by the ottoman government. Netanyahu is bad, illegal settlements are bad, fighting a war without due regard for civilians is bad. But Israel got be a country through legal means and Hamas are vermin.

OBrien was breaking the law. The cop's job is to stop him from doing that . How on Earth is that acting like a fascist.

I'm not defending how they are prosecuting the war. But I 100% know that Israel has a right to exist, that Hamas are evil and that there had to be a military response to the atrocities at 7th October.
If we can agree those 3 points, then we can get somewhere on criticising how the war is being fought and how Israel should be way, way more careful about civilian casualties - and how Netanyahu should be out of power and consigned to the dustbin of history.

the land purchases were 100% legal and the movement of jews to the area was approved by the government of the regoin. This wasn't an invasion, it's was a legal immigration. Their presence was approved by the Ottomans, British Mandate and UN. They also didn't always evict the Palestinians or prevent them from working the land; it was much more nuanced than that.
But regardless, the land wasn't seized from anyone. It was bought.

I literally said in the post you are responding to that innocent palestinian were exiled from land occupid by Israel after the Arabs invaded them. Like it is spelled out in my post. i don't think you read my post.

The West bank was occupied by the Israeli after the Arabs invaded them. They agreed with the UN to give it back. But some radical settlers have moved in and evicted Palestinians. Israeli governments have condemned this or they have approved or even encouraged it. Personally I condemn it. But the context - that this is land the Israeli's occupied after winning a war where they were invaded is important to note. This wasn't just land that they colonised.

that framing of what's happening is controversial and not broadly accepted in German society. Israel is prosectuing the war in a way that I think is too ruthless. but it absolutely has to prosecute its war and it absolutely has to wipe out Hamas.
If any of these protests are questioning the validity of Israel's existence or it's right to defend itself or in any way suggesting that Hamas aren't terrorists then they are problematic. They should be shut down.
if OBrien was peacefully protesting the way the war was being fought, the scant regard for Palestinian lives etc. then fine. But I don't think this is what he was doing.

1 km walk through Swords Main St. (Dublin Road, North St.)
Jesus christ. what is the back story here? ARe tehy awaiting demolition so blocks of flats can be built? If so how long have they been boarded up.
someone should be paying an absolutely obscenely punitive tax if they are just sitting on these properties until the market is right to flip them.

Germany Turns to U.S. Playbook: Deportations Target Gaza War Protesters (two of four targeted individuals are Irish)
do the protests even obliquely support Hamas? Do they even obliquely question the right of the Israeli state to exist? Do they even obliquely question Israel's absolute right to relatiate in the wake of the 7th October atrocity?
If they answer to all of these are no - in other words the protest is about the way that Israel is prosecuting its completely justified war on Hamas - then I can't see how there would be an issue. Netanyahu is behaving in a way that shows a disregard for Palestinian civilians and this should be called out.
But anyone questioning Israel's right to exist or equivocating when it comes to the evil of Hamas shouldn't be tolerated. Especially in Germany.
