What’s the difference between unoccupied and minimum CFM on a VAV system?
 in  r/MEPEngineering  2h ago

They can be the same or different depending on your energy code and DCV requirements. It is the minimum amount of ventilation you are allowed to provide and still meet code.

Unoccupied can mean different things. Are you using DCV? If so there's a specific value to turn down to. Are you reducing Air Changes for something like a lab or operating room during unoccupied hours? Then it's a set value percentage of the max flow. Heating CFM in occupied mode should be the ventilation CFM to avoid simultaneous heating and cooling.

If you need heat during unoccupied mode, it should be the lowest you can go and still meet the unoccupied heating setpoint same for cooling.

How do you enjoy dancing in a bad mood?
 in  r/Salsa  1d ago

Hey friend. Unfortunately I don't know how to help with your BPD specific items.

I have found that the only way to "break the loop" is to do the action anyway i.e. act as if. So even when you are in a bad mood around others, approach them anyway with a smile, do your best to be kind and open, and start a conversation. Some may not go anywhere, but you have to show your mind that the story is not always true. So if you can find that strength and have at least one good interaction, that can help disprove the story that "people won't like me when I'm in a bad mood"

Attitude follows behavior, not the other way around. This is true for all folks

Good luck I hope it helps

Why do leads ask my bf if they can dance with me?
 in  r/Bachata  6d ago

They feel like they are showing respect to the relationship by doing so and trying to get his permission to make sure he is ok with it. Obviously, if they are a normal lead, they also want you to be ok with it too.

Some couples do not dance with others when they go out.

It's kind of a grey area and you can just let the lead know that they can ask you directly next time. I wouldn't read into it unless they STILL intentionally don't ask you after you clarify with them.

How do you enjoy dancing in a bad mood?
 in  r/Salsa  6d ago

I think you're putting too much pressure on yourself to be like other people friend.

It's ok to stay home and watch a movie sometimes. If you start forcing yourself to dance when you're not feeling it, you will stop the hobby altogether anyway. Most of the time, I don't force myself to go. If you're tired, stay home and rest. If it's just a matter of not being there emotionally, sometimes forcing yourself to go can change your mood, but not always. Typically there is a deeper reason you are feeling that way that is worth exploring

How would it work having an air handler that’s only supplying air to bathrooms/ a kitchen?
 in  r/MEPEngineering  7d ago

Following this line of logic, I'd look into just transferring some air in from an adjacent space and make sure you're meeting 62.1 requirements so you don't need to unnecessarily waste energy. Bathrooms are okay minimally conditioned.

Make an airflow plan showing all the CFM in and out of each space including supply, exhaust, infiltration, and x filtration 1st. Get your managers help on that. After that, it's simple to make selections and route duct and place air terminals

Make sure the kitchen consultant has provided drawings with clear exhaust requirements

Doing non-sensual steps during the slow part of a song.
 in  r/Bachata  8d ago

It feels weird musically but as long as you stay on time you can technically do whatever you want as long as you are taking the follow into account. Before I learned some sensual moves, I would just dance "regular" bachata steps at either full time or half time and it worked well

Managing Senior Engineers
 in  r/MEPEngineering  10d ago

Why wasn't QC scheduled?

Why was there no progress set for review?

Who was gonna QC the drawings before sending out?

Look I get it's frustrating and in an ideal world everyone does their job, but that's just not realistic. Does your company have a system for assigning projects and QC responsibilities?

Being a PM means doing these things, it's not just a title because you are good in front of clients

LPT How do I stop comparing my life to literally everyone?

Get off social media and develop a gratitude practice like listing three things you are grateful for when you first wake up and before you go to bed.

LPT How should I change my life?

Agree with all the other comments about mental health and finding a supportive community.

Do you know the difference between a growth mindset and fixed mindset?

If you reread your post you will see that almost every thing you want to try, you disqualify because "it's too hard" or "it's scary"

Why do you think that is? Do you journal? In my opinion, the most important thing in life is developing self awareness and being self sufficient at meeting your needs. Of you make that your focus, you will be ahead of almost every one.

Check my post from December! Studio JBA was amazing. I highly recommend it. I dance on1 but some really great on2 dancers there.

El Cafe Latino was dead when I went.

What actually makes thoughts less distracting?
 in  r/streamentry  28d ago

Do you find yourself trying to concentrate on the breath to exclude the rest of your experience? Are you kind to yourself and equanimous when you "lose it" and do you bring attention back gently or forcefully like you are trying to subjugate something?

I found that samadhi is always available when I don't fight the rest of my experience because I'm only "supposed" to be experiencing the breath.

I don't know if I've ever experienced very high samadhi jhanas but I can tell you that you won't get there when you are "efforting" too much

Work Tablet
 in  r/tablets  Mar 05 '25

I haven't made a purchase yet, but I'm leaning towards an older gen iPad + stylus with one note installed. I have some family that I can try it out in and see how it goes.

If not apple, I'd just go with an older windows tablet that has onenote and PDF edit/view capabilities

Follows being touchy and dancing so close that we are grinding. Are they showing interest or is this how bachata is danced?
 in  r/Bachata  Feb 19 '25

Thank you for the tips. Yes she is definitely a "space invader" 😂 and jumps into the space I create in a closed position and puts the entire front of her body onto my body like a very intimate hug between people who are romantic together, which is why I would have to basically dance with shoulders forward and torso back to create separation.

I will try the shoulder joint thing to create more space, but most likely will be leading open and one handed things 😉

If I do that I can't keep my chest up and maintain the frame. I'll be dancing hunchbacked.

I'll probably just stick to open position and shadow with her and avoid closed positions facing each other and sensual moves

As a follow, would you want the lead to say something?

 in  r/Bachata  Feb 16 '25

I just experienced this last night and thought the follow might be interested. I had a chat with her after the fact and was going to ask her out, but before I asked, I found out she has a boyfriend 🫤

I'm not sure if it's a lack of understanding the proper connection, her trying to flirt, or both!

Anyway, the only way to know for sure is to have a conversation off the floor and see if she's giving you any signals and then ask her out (If you're interested!)

I don't experience this with more experienced follows .

I'm curious if follows here think I should tell her or say something about us dancing too close on regular closed connection

Work Tablet

Hi folks, I'm looking for a tablet for work to help me out with a few tasks and was looking for some recommendations. The main functions I am looking for are listed below.

  1. I would like to take handwritten notes on the tablet and have them translate to text using OCR. Ideally this is done in One note directly as that is where I organize my projects, but I'd be ok with emailing/downloading the text files after the fact. I've heard Onenote's OCR leaves a lot to be desired.

  2. I would like to mark up PDFs or JPEGs with handwritten text using the stylus and then download the marked up PDF to my work computer. It would be great if the marked up PDF translated using OCR as well, but that's not required

I'm looking for the most affordable option that provides the best performance.

Thanks in advance!

LPT Request: What can you do to make your life more interesting?
 in  r/LifeProTips  Feb 05 '25

Interesting people are interested people i.e. curious. Ask questions when meeting new folks, and be genuinely interested in what they are sharing with you. Follow your curiosity and experiment with new hobbies, activities, and social groups. Get outside your comfort zone and don't spend all day on screens. Set up a screen time limiting app that forces you to get off your phone and computer

I highly recommend you learn the difference between air horsepower, brake horse power, and motor nominal horse power. Also learn about fan curves and operating points for your system. AMCA manuals are a great resource

Danger of AI Replacement?
 in  r/MEPEngineering  Jan 30 '25

I hate working with SourceBlue. They never have enough expertise to effectively function as a rep and then when there are plan check comments associated with their equipment they are useless.

It only benefits the GC. As do most things in construction..... Honestly, owners might get slightly cheaper equipment, but they typically lose out in service and maintenance down the line.

I just worked with them on a boiler job and they just externalized cost to the mechanical contractor and their option was only 60k cheaper for like a $1mm piece of equipment. Considering all the design time that went to put the coordination, it was an overall loss for the project. Only the GC benefitted.

How has getting your PE made your career and pay better?
 in  r/MEPEngineering  Jan 12 '25

Absolutely get it. But I would encourage you to act like a PE under the supervision of one.

Take initiative to develop high level design concepts in early SD

When a project is starting, come up with the sheet index, all the tasks required, and do the calcs yourself

When doing CA in a project, don't just run to the PE when things pop up. Review submittals against the spec yourself and come up with solutions to RFIs yourself.

Then your PE just oversees each of these items and reviews before sending out. This is how you build your confidence to ACTUALLY be a PE. I know a lot of PEs that don't actually have the confidence
