I'd pay to see the continuation.

AITA for refusing to give back a family heirloom?
 in  r/AmItheAsshole  Feb 04 '25

NTA. I wouldn't trust her to give it back and it was gifted to you. it's yours. You don't intend to pass it down to your sister, but rather to any offspring you or she may have.

AITA for not using my inheritance (from my parents) for my husband’s family

Yes, This. It's your money, and you married your husband, not his sisters.

I'd just see a family lawyer who will have had many similar cases and who can decide what the most reasonable and legally defensible course is. It does sound to me like their family is trying to grift a little, but I think that's your lens. I agree it's not your responsibility to feed and house your sisters-in-law. I'd see a family/property lawyer and a therapist to figure out what you really want and need from this messy situation.

Woman died in Waikato Hospital because cardiac alarm volume was turned down
 in  r/newzealand  Sep 02 '24

Are you kidding? Twitter was insufferable when Jacinda Ardern was PM. The sexist denigration was merciless, daily, and continuous. Those who opposed her policies resorted to calling her "Cindy". They didn't have coherent srguments that I could recognize as such. There was no sense engaging with them, more's the pity.

Maybe: It could be WHOM they represent; and it could be HOW they represent them.

To quote Brecht: Would it not in that case
Be simpler for the government
To dissolve the people
And elect another?

This is just so needless and sad. This shouldn't be a partisan issue. We need an independent doctor's investigation team that looks into accidents and deaths in hospitals without assigning blame, like the TAIC in aviation, so there's a record of what went wrong and how practices need to be improved so the same problem does not recur.

You're right. Why don't medical staff have rest requirements like pilots do? No one can work properly after a 14-hour shift and 3-hours' sleep. Why isn't the blood group printed next to the patient's name on the admission 'bracelet'? These mistakes are completely avoidable. They need to go back, analyze what went wrong, and learn, so that it never happens again.

Why are Meds for kids being distributed at such high levels?
 in  r/conspiracy  Sep 02 '24

Let's be clear: therapists (probably what you mean by "psychologists" cannot prescribe medications. Unlike psychiatrists, who are medical doctors, and can prescribe medications. Also, ADHD is more a neurodevelopmental disorder. Your view of people's motivations I find quite cynical and suspicious of people's motives; I don't know if that's entirely fair to the professionals involved. I understand why you might think this way, but ADHD is real, as is the need for extra support, and also parent overwhelm after Covid. Take from that what you will.

AITA for setting up a “just in case” fund for my daughter?

That's nicely worded. And far more discreet.

NTA This was a well intentioned move that was poorly communicated. I suspect OP may have picked up something in the daughter's relationship dynamics that made her think daughter could need a parachute at some point. An inkling, perhaps. Son-I-L must know his wife'll be financially ruined if he leaves her (but not vice-versa), and he could exploit that power imbalance to control her in some way. A controlling or abusive person (if he is such) might find it threatening to his power and control that she can just up and leave when she wants, and get angry (as he did) if she knew there was a way out of the marriage, like OP is providing. Maybe OP is detecting those abusive/controlling traits in him already, subconsciously. An escape plan (plan B) is not something you set up unless you think it might be needed. OP and husband have seen something, and I don't think the niece's situation is the main motive here.

I think the real concern is to protect that money from being accessed by the husband. Talk to a lawyer, draw something up, and make sure only the daughter can access the money in case of a relationship dysfunction (abuse, breakup). Be careful what happens to that money in case of a divorce. It's hers and hers only.

This Elephant has become leader of a Buffalo herd.
 in  r/interestingasfuck  May 15 '24

Voice-over: "elephants are hard-wired to be sociable".

A few moments later: Nzo engages in egregious bullying, and concerned buffalo try to stage an intervention addressing Nzo's anti-social behavior.

Absolutely! It just needs to learn to say "Ruh Roh" and run in the air a few moments before actually running off. And show extreme fear of objectively harmless stimuli.

Being irritated by loud noises is not irrational. It's normal. People making loud noises without clearing it with you are being inconsiderate, depending on the living situation. I can't stand loud noises, either. I am a musician, however, so maybe it hurts me more than it does others.

How do famous piano players make money if ?
 in  r/classicalmusic  May 01 '24

It's a good question, and in no way do they make as much as the most popular pop stars. Same with classical contemporary composers. It all went downhill once classical performers/composers stopped being retained by generous aristocrats, as far as I can tell.

Maybe write to them or their agents and find out their fee.

I haven't done Dvořák any justice at all.

I can well imagine. Listening to Mahler live is incredible and, as you say, quite a different experience. The physical presence of the double basses, harp, and brass makes clear how well he understood their qualities.

It's incredible. The opening is something from a different world, and age.

Haydn. My listening/performing really doesn't extend much beyond the Creation and the Surprise Symphony. It's embarrassing. I've played through quite a few piano sonatas, but it's no real excuse. I feel like he's not that often performed, either.
