How hard to replace shifting cables?
 in  r/bicycling  1d ago

are you (even marginally) mechanically inclined? do you own a set of allens? that's really all that's necessary to change this. once installed you'll need some time to fine tune the adjustment, that's what the shop is charging for. it's the adjustment time.

fwiw, the duct tape on the rear housing says to change them both at the same time. just buy a full kit and diy

discussion cleaning solvent?

I'm all out of ballistol and open to another cleaner. From what I understand hoppes 9 is very effective, but also toxic. Any recommendations on a non-toxic cleaner? Just general cleaning of bores, barrels, actions, etc. Mostly, if not all, carbon deposits. I'm sure there's copper and lead in there too.

Fwiw, I'm happy with mobile1 for lube so a dedicated cleaner is fine.

which birdhouse?

Recently hung a bird feeder off a tree in our backyard. It's getting lots and lots of traffic and now I'm thinking maybe it's a good time for a bird house but don't know what to look for (size, shape, hanging method, etc) if that makes any difference. Kinda tempted to get one with an acrylic "window" so we can watch but maybe it feels too exposed??

Not a birder but we're in the same Gabriel foothills

Pooling Water
 in  r/landscaping  2d ago

my landscaper installed one of these deals before. supposed to evacuate based on 'level' and snorkel out. worked for us cuz there was enough difference in slope, however slowly. but once i saw it in action, i was like F that S. never again.

for op, whydafuq did they run the drain right at that tree in the parkway??? go literally one yard to either side, excavate under the sidewalk and daylight out the side of the curb. create flow and (not for nothing) you don't create tube of shaded water for mosquitoes once the rain ends.

I think I hate this holster or belt or both.
 in  r/CCW  4d ago

that extra length on the holster resists the keel effect of short slides. will depend on anatomy tho and how high up you wear your belt relative to where your legs 'hinge'. could tip out when standing or dig in when sitting. if you're set on switching holsters, go tenicor.

wrt belts, i have the kore, nexbelt, no name amazon 'tactical' and have come to prefer the amazon cheapo cuz the other two are so stiff they hoola hoop on my body. i finally ordered tenicor zero so we'll see how that goes...

Crash on the 91 express lanes this morning.
 in  r/orangecounty  5d ago

should have plowed into that car. swerving into the adjoining lane puts this on the truck driver. doesn't matter if it's a dipshit driver or a squirrel. you can't avoid one by hitting someone else.

just wanna ask if im doing good so far on wheelies or am i missing something
 in  r/MTB  6d ago

instead of pulling up the front end, shoot your butt down and back while simultaneously cranking a looow gear. this will pop the front up on its own. i like to drop my saddle out of the way to learn. your space is nice and flat but i like a grassy field cuz it's slower rolling so you can be more aggressive with the pedal stroke until you get the feel

College offering Yosemite trip for $200. Worth it?
 in  r/Yosemite  7d ago

yeah, the base expenses (gear, transport, fees,) don't really change much with duration. really it's food and (maybe) guide fees that go up with longer trips. 200 for a weekend really only works if it's somehow subsidized which it sounds like the school is doing. and that's if you can even get a site for a weekend. absolutely go!

libre3 consistently 35-55 below finger pricks

Recently prediabetic so new to cgms. First libre3 sensor was within 10-15 of my finger pricks (fasting) but my second sensor is way off. Like 30-55 low. To the point I'm getting critical low(<55) warnings while finger pricks show low 110s. Gave it a couple more days to "soak" but not much better.

Do I give up on this one and try another? Is there some calibration I can do? or anything else i can do? fwiw, location was changed from one arm to the other. finger prick sensor is the onetouch verio flex
