For example, how many people learned there were protests going on in Turkey at all because of this post?

Don't have to be a shack or anything, just needs to be local. One restaurant on Middle Bass Island served little fried walleye bites that you could tell came right from the lake. They were amazing.

So have ThinkPads resisted enshittification or something? We're a Dell shop and I could use the old Latitudes to deal 1d6 bludgeoning damage and still have it work afterwards. Every ThinkPad I handed out back then ended up with a damaged chassis. Obviously Dell has gone to shit, but my understanding was that so had everyone else.

Economically and environmentally? This pope has always been this way and technically Church itself has been for a good 50-75 years at least. The current pope has just been more vocal about it.

Socially, in terms of racism and immigration? For about just as long. See: The Pope basically telling Vance to go fuck himself.

Socially, in terms of LGBT and women? Never.

Marcy Kaptur Censures Al Green
 in  r/toledo  Mar 06 '25

By the time of the next election the vote to censure Green will be gone from everyone's minds. She didn't have to vote to censure, she could have just abstained. Decorum is dead and this isn't going to win her any conservative votes.

Sorry, sat down on the bench wrong and now the anti-homeless bar is wedged between my asscheeks. I'm a little preoccupied. (I have hemorrhoids, so not a sexy kind of preoccupied. More screaming in pain preoccupied.)

Marcy had some serious airtime during the presidential address.
 in  r/toledo  Mar 05 '25

She's also one of those reps that will personally do things for constituents if it is reasonably within her power.

A friend of mine got dishonorably discharged from the Marines years ago for a BS reason. That comes with a number of penalties like not being allowed to own guns or hold a government job. When asked, Marcy put her weight behind an appeal and got the dishonorable part lifted.

House Reps are supposed to be out LOCAL reps. Marcy is one of those old school Reps who get this.

Definitely. They actually have some portions of the parking lots blocked off to keep the nests from being disturbed. We've almost always been able to spot them when visiting.

What is the best Hack you made of a system and you're proud of?
 in  r/rpg  Mar 01 '25

I made a hack of the old Storyteller system for use in a Highlander RPG. Whenever there was a sword duel between immortals we pulled out cards from the Highland TCG. Your deck was a balanced number of attack and defense location cards plus up to a number of special attck cards equal to your dots in swordfighting and defense. Your hand size started out equal to your Health. We then basically played a game of the Highlander TCG. It worked really well - made immortal-on-immortal combat feel very special.

Quokka rule
 in  r/196  Feb 27 '25

Their mouths just happen to naturally be shaped in what we humans assume to be a smile. But they are not humans, so their facial expressions do not actually reflect what they are feeling. We simply project what we know of ourselves onto them.

In truth, every quokka lives in miserable pain and suffers from horrible depression. Continual migraines and the ability to understand human speech and all the stupidity that surrounds them but they can do nothing about it. Hundreds of quokka jump off cliffs every year in despair but all we see are smiling little happy guys because of our disgusting self-absorption.

Do they build ‘em like this anymore?
 in  r/toledo  Feb 27 '25

I live in one of these old homes. They can be very sturdy and reliable - if you take care of them. For example, those lovely, wooden windows can last forever if cared for but will rot away faster than vinyl if not taken care of.

Also, fun fact! People back in "ye olden days" were just as capable of cutting corners and cheaping out as they are today. Our front porch was collapsing because apparently the builders ran out of a certain thickness of wood towards the end and used half sized planks for support instead.
