Help! My host is constantly micromanaging me
 in  r/WWOOF  11d ago

I once quit a farm over being micromanaged. I was suppose to stay for the season but only managed a couple weeks before the cookie incident went down. Sounds like you’ll be moving on soon. Give it a few days after you leave and then write a fair review.

What’s your area of expertise? Do you have experience growing?

Do you live near a city? Do you… like people? Me not so much, but agro-tourism/you-pick might be a good avenue if you do. Build your own flower bouquet, harvest your own medicinal herbs, pick your own fruit, would all be popular draws and would involve more interacting with people than doing all the work yourself. Perennial crops require maintenance but might be a good long term investment. You could hire someone to help do the big jobs like planting/mulching.

Another agro tourism option is renting your land for camping or events. I know of one farm that makes half their income off Hip Camp.

Are you going to hire help? The options that I am familiar with can all be really hard on your back. Nursery work sounds easy/relaxed but it really jacks my back when I do a lot of tray filling and seeding in a day. Bending over, not moving much for hours. Same with harvesting berries. I would only do berries on large scale as a “you pick”. The dye farm idea sounds very unique and cool. Do you think you would have a market? Do you know how to process the plants into a product? I guess I would think about what you hope to gain from this venture. Do you just want to do something interesting with the land you have available or do you want to make money off it?

What to do with woody waste?
 in  r/marketgardening  18d ago

You could chip it and use the wood chips for mulch. Or you could use the wood as borders for permanent beds. Or build hugelkulture mounds.

I use an earthway seeded for peas, beans, and corn and a Jang seeder for smaller seeds. For years, I planted the small seeds by hand but that’s full of error and time consuming. How many row feet will you be planting of carrots, lettuce, beets, etc? If you are a precise person and not doing a lot of row feet, you could do it by hand. Jang is expensive ~$700 with the seed rollers. Totally worth it for a lot of market gardeners but a big purchase when you are getting started. I haven’t tried the Lyuggage seeder. Maybe check the return policy in case it’s junk.

I learned the hard way that Baker Creek seeds aren’t great
 in  r/gardening  Mar 04 '25

My best guess is old seed or poor storage conditions of their seed.

Don’t know what to do with my hair anymore

It looks like you have some natural waviness that you could accentuate with product and techniques that people with curly hair use.

Can I be successful without growing salad mix?
 in  r/marketgardening  Feb 19 '25

I barely grow salad mix for market. All the other produce vendors at our market grow it and it brings a lot of people to their booths.

Do you have extra space that you could offer for someone else to farm the vegetables that you don’t care to grow? It sounds like you are plenty busy already but want to serve the local community so maybe renting land to a beginning grower could work.

Otherwise I think head lettuce would be a decent compromise.

What’s up with so few LFLs posted on the app (at least in my area)?
 in  r/LittleFreeLibrary  Feb 15 '25

I didn’t know there was a webpage/app until maybe a year ago. Heard about them through word of mouth and coming across them IRL

You can get rid of it. Inside a plastic bag. In the trash. Stuffed under some other garbage. Good luck. My kids have a sixth sense for when I throw something awful out.

I’m not usually one to throw away books but these were in a little free library at a park.
 in  r/LittleFreeLibrary  Jan 30 '25

Sometimes I find really crappy kids books. Like no author or illustrator listed and just junk content. I throw them out to save other parents.
