How often to you feed your baby in a day?
EBF baby is about to be 5mo. They’re incredibly efficient at times and eat all they want in under 4min, other times they’re on the boobies for 10-15min (during the night this can be 10-15 per boob…😅), sometimes it’s 4min then I offer the other and it’s another 4min.
We average about 12 feedings per day since baby likes to eat every 90-120min still most days or will do a proper feed then a snack 90min later and a proper feed when they wake back up from a nap.

Constant small loads of laundry?
Early on we did one load like every 5-6 days of only baby things? But they also kept peeing on everything. All the time. So a swaddle got thrown in with our sweats, then a bassinet sheet and liner in with our towels…then before we knew it it was simply sorting it out once it was all done.
We do a separate load maybe once per week if there’s a significant amount of laundry for baby (they are a tiny hand monster and have to have a swaddle blanket on their upper body during diaper changes to distract them so I swap that at least daily). Now that baby is bigger though their laundry honestly takes a full load. We literally do laundry daily. 🫠 we’re never caught up either.

Baby clothes sizes are wild
We use Carters, Cloud Island, and Cat & Jack Baby (all at Target), baby is almost 5mo and is 16.5-17lbs / 26” long but it’s all thigh and leg and they’re skinny up top. Sizing wise here’s what I’ve noticed:
Carters newborn and 3m sizing was fairly consistent, 6m the sleep n plays are baggy, the onesies are snug, pants are fairly accurate. 9m stuff is looking much too big still.
Cloud Island varies like crazy. Newborn and 0-3m was pretty accurate but the fabric makes a big difference. 3-6m we are about to size fully out of and last night’s pj attempt was hilarious and was somehow an inch too small in the shoulders. Same brand, same size but rayon/silkier materials are too big still because baby manages to stretch the hands and feet out by pulling on them. The long sleeved onesies are adorable and are getting too snug in 3-6m but baby loves them and they’re soft.
Cat & Jack 3-6m fits through the torso but legs are short. On a whim we tried a pair of 6-9m baby jeans on last week and the length was only 1/2” too long but the waist was huge still. Some very, very cute rompers and onesies from here too though.
Snag stuff on sale and it’s much easier to handle those weird in between size weeks.

Matt Smith and Claire Foy in The Crown
Absolutely adored this one. I’ve already read it twice in the last 18 months haha. My husband has no idea why ABBA plays in our house so much but it’s purely from this fic and the accompanying playlist on Spotify.

If your baby wakes up at 8am what time do they go to bed?
She should definitely be getting better naps than that if possible, especially if she’s only sleeping 10hrs per night.
My almost 5mo is almost ready to drop their 4th nap but we aim for around 4hrs of daytime sleep because they won’t sleep more than 10hrs overnight. Ever. It’s currently 6:20am and they tried to wake for the day at 5:55am again, but they won’t get to bed any earlier than 9pm right now.
Our routine roughly is: up around 7am, first nap is ~90min post wake up and lasts usually around 90min, second wake window is around 90min again and 2nd nap is around an hour, 3rd wake window is ~2hrs and 3rd nap is SHIT and lasts less than 40min, 4th wake window is ~1.75hrs, final nap of the day is usually only 30min to tide baby over to bedtime depending on how much they napped successfully that day. Bedtime starts at the 1h15m awake mark in last/5th wake window. Baby is asleep by the 2hr mark if not sooner.
If baby manages to sleep until 6:45am we get up then. If they try to wake too early like right now I gently push them to go back to sleep and our day starts maybe around 7:30/7:45am. First nap shouldn’t be sooner than 8am but they can only hang for 90min before they really hate being awake in the morning.

Bake Twice a Week Every Week for the Office- How Long Can I Keep it Up?
That’s what happened with me years ago. I lived alone so brought in cupcakes and cookies and stuff for coworkers to enjoy so I wasn’t eating 24 cupcakes in 3 days. Then people started requesting recipes.
So I learned how to bake by weight and started baking 1/2-1/4 the recipe size so I could enjoy treats but not waste anything.

Owlet - how often do you use it?
When I kept the sock on during the day when baby was small and sleeping 16-18 hours per day yes, we’d get the move sign. Now that baby is about 5mo I take the sock off when they’re up for the day and don’t use it again until bedtime. We only do contact naps so I’m not worried about them during the day, but when they have done solo naps I put it back on.

What's the longest your newborn ever went without pooping
Ok not just my baby then. My EBF baby poops CONSTANTLY even now at almost 5mo. Early on it was 8-12x/day like yours, now we’re at about 5-7x/day with some massive blowouts early morning. 🫠

First time- Board and Batten nursery
lol we use our nursery to store their clothing and change diapers, plus do middle of the night feedings in the rocking chair. All playtime is in the living room and sleep is in our room probably for their first year. 😂

Owlet - how often do you use it?
I thought the sock was burning my baby’s foot but turns out it was a dampness issue from sweating overnight. I switch feet every couple of weeks and take it off as soon as baby is up for the day. The mark has gone away and not come back now.

Owlet - how often do you use it?
You might just need to adjust the snugness of it? My baby is a KICKER for sure, and almost tipped their bassinet they would kick so forcefully and their owlet never went off from that except the rare “check on baby, they need soothing” lavender colored alarm. But that required baby to basically be doing bicycle kicks for 4 minutes straight to go off.

Got asked by a work acquaintance if I'd had my baby - I was never pregnant
I had my first last year and always grocery shopped at the same store until I was 38.5 weeks and stopped driving. At the 24 week mark the bags were officially too heavy and I needed help getting them in my trunk, and the staff was like “…ok??? Why?” “Uh I’m pregnant…?” Then the following week a different staff member didn’t even ask if I needed help, she called a bagger over and said “she cannot be lifting bags, get these in her car for her!” So she knew immediately I was fairly far along lol. By the very end I was still small (I’m tall) but also so OBVIOUSLY near my due date and I kept getting the same staffers who kept asking how I was feeling and when baby was coming. It was a mix of “oh that’s so far!” and “wow you’re so close and so small!” 😅
I haven’t been back since I gave birth but I’m almost excited to go in and be like “wanna see a picture?! 😍🤣”

Who got something for Mothers Day?
I’m in the US so we haven’t celebrated yet, but we announced to our families last year on Mother’s Day and immediately it was “I should’ve bought flowers too! You’re a mom!” even though I was only 14 weeks. My husband and I have always made sure our moms (and dads) are celebrated each year, and this year will be our first celebrating each other.
I’ve asked for a nap, a meal I don’t have to cook or clean up, and something small from him and baby. A token of “we love you, thank you for being such a good mama” and my husband said he’d like essentially the same for Father’s Day. It will be on our calendar so he doesn’t get blindsided by the date being so soon, too.

When do you get your first 6+hours of sleep
I had one night, one glorious night where I slept 5 hours straight because baby slept almost 7 hours. I felt like a brand new woman.
Then the 4mo sleep regression hit 2 days later and lasted almost 5 weeks (worst night was 11 wake ups…). Now I’m barely getting 6hrs total again with our 2-3 nightly wake ups and baby thinking 6:25am is wakey wakey time for the day. 🤣

How strict is the “68 to 72 degrees” rule?
My baby is 4.5mo and sleeps best at 66 degrees but in a 1.5 TOG sleep sack and a footed sleep suit (like a sleep ‘n play situation, the little glove fold over hands came in clutch in February).
For reference it’s currently 71.4 inside and baby is in just a diaper because they loathe being warm, but they’re also snuggled on me for cozy comfort. When the heater stopped working one night at 4am it dropped to 60 inside and they woke up screaming and immediately grabbed onto me when I picked them up. They were much, much too cold at that temperature even in their outfit and sleep sack.

When do I give her real food?
My EBF baby is just shy of 5 months and we haven’t started purées or solids yet. Pediatrician cleared us at the 4mo baby checkup appointment but I’m not comfortable with how little baby can sit up on their own and we aren’t interested in doing only purées for more than a couple weeks and want to do BLW as much as possible. Pediatrician seems like they went to medical school 15+ years ago then haven’t kept up to date on current practices and recommendations, so we’re following our own lead a bit instead.
Current plan is to put baby in their high chair every day and see how they do sitting up. Can they sit up for more than 5min unassisted before they start to slouch? If yes, they’re ready for food! I know the saying of food before one is just for fun isn’t entirely accurate but food before 6 months is entirely not needed as only after that point do the iron stores deplete and then baby needs them from their own food intake. Baby should be doing purées at minimum from 6mo on and be eating solids by 9mo, with the goal of 3 meals plus snacks per day by 12mo.

Party-goers signatures from the 1940s in the basement of my century y/o home
My grandpa did the same thing, I think it was likely fairly common post-Great Depression but wasn’t discussed because the manpower was needed. He was even younger (1924) and he enlisted in the military before he was 18 because of how few options he had financially for his future. He was in Europe, specifically in planes over Germany doing…things…that helped immensely that he didn’t speak about until he was in his 90s and knew we should know his stories.

Wipes and diapers
Yes that’s the ones we get, the actual Huggies brand not the Costco/Kirkland brand items. I mainly get Huggies wipes from Target during the big sales/coupon deals, especially since there’s a Target near my house that always has them in stock for same day as needed.

Wipes and diapers
Another agreement for pampers for newborn size, but Huggies for bigger. We used pampers in preemie size because baby was sooo skinny at first that pee kept shooting out no matter how snug the waist was in newborn sizing, then used pampers and Huggies in newborn 8-10lbs. I noticed baby fit better in Huggies as their thighs got all chonky and they started wiggling more.
Huggies from Costco work super well and are cheaper than Target, and they show up very quickly which is great! Target does have tons and tons of coupons and promos though.

Nose boogers
Frida nose sucker and the oogie bear. Pretty sure baby got my bad allergies (we bought a new air purifier for bedroom and it’s helping!) so they get some big ol boogers trapped up in their sinuses that won’t come out on their own and baby tolerates the oogie but only for very quick close boogie picking.
Always, always use saline spray in nostrils first if there isn’t literal snot running out already, and use the sucker sparingly while baby is super young. I use it only if baby is visibly uncomfortable or struggling to breathe properly (snoring, snorts, choking/coughing on postnatal drip, huge boogies blocking their nostrils).

newborn won’t stop crying
Noise cancelling headphones for you, too! Or at minimum put headphones on with nothing playing so it dampens the sound for you. And obviously baby is pretty young but getting outside is good for both of you. My baby had major crying streaks and getting them outside would at least calm them down enough to usually fall asleep for one nap. It really helps reset their little nervous systems. Also reading quietly out loud has worked for us—I’ll set up a book on the countertop and I’ll sway/bounce baby while standing and reading out loud for up to 30min at a time and baby falls asleep. ❤️❤️

Pediatrician has given me ANXIETY about baby’s sleep
We’re on day 11 of this (and week 3 of overall sleep regression issues) so at this point caffeine is a funny little joke that essentially keeps me awake long enough for the midday sun to help keep me functioning and my 2nd/3rd wind kicks in.
The only saving grace is I’m still at home with baby and not having to function at work all day. My job right now is keep baby fed, dry, happy, and safe, and they are sooo smiley and giggly which does help a lot. But damn I’m tired. 🤣

Whoever said newborn tired is better than pregnancy tired can suck it
Exactly. Like I sleep better than when I was pregnant, but I’m overall not sleeping enough due to all the wake-ups for more than a quick pee in the night. My watch is like “hey…you ok? You’re not really sleeping…” I AM AWARE THANK YOU. 😅

Why can’t you use bassinet after baby starts turning

We switched to a mini crib around 3mo because baby was smashing their head into the top of the bassinet and without the swaddle their arms were constantly hitting the mesh on the sides. Once in the crib they had room to flail their arms without hitting anything and they sleep much more peacefully (when they sleep lol).
Our Chicco Lullaglide said when baby starts to get on hands and knees and/or weighed 20lbs. Baby still isn’t even rolling over consistently let alone lifting like that but it’s better to be safe.
