Study Hours Summary 2024 - 4 Exams

When I started ACCA I couldn't find any info on how many hours I would actually need to study per exam while also working full time. So I tracked all my study hours for the year so others can get an idea. I added as much info as possible.

Here's my findings for 2024, for anyone who cares...

Exams
2023
FR Dec - 56% 110 hours studied (added for reference, not included in stats below)
2024
AA Mar - 63% 81 hours
TX June - 58% 70 hours
PM Sep - 51% 53 hours
FM Dec - 57% 57 hours

The Stats (based on 4 exams taken this year)

Takeaways

  • Study well at the start of the week, Thursdays see huge drop off
  • Friday is popular but I often work 4 days so I am off work
  • Sunday is pointless, often try study on Sunday but often fail to. Will take Sunday off from now on
  • Didn't feel comfortable going into PM and FM exams having only studied 50 ish hours. 70 hours is propably what I need to feel comfortbale

My situaton / other notes

  • Working in Scotland at a small practice
  • Work 35 hours per week. We can condense our hours into 4 days so take Friday off. A few hours overtime required each week to keep ahead
  • Commute 2.5 hours per day for work. Not ideal.
  • I wouldnt say I have much of a life when I am in study mode. Long commuting time doesn't help that
  • I don't have kids
  • I study after work, not before
  • Only logged successful study sesions. So if I sat down for an hour and didnt do anything, I didnt log the hours
  • I use Kaplan study text and exam kit and self study
  • Basically just followed this reddit post as structure of my study

Feel free to ask me anything or tell me I am mad for logging all of this haha
