Corporations Hello MapQuest, my old friend

I stole this from a meme on Instagram but just downloaded the app and it’s still there! Google and Apple both caved. Let’s bring this relic back!

It’s still Gulf of Mexico for me in the UK 🤷‍♂️ (Apple Maps)

I live in Latin America and my Google Maps language is set to Spanish. Mine now says 'Golfo de México (Golfo de América)'.

Perusing disputed territories on Google Maps/Google Eart is always a bit of an interesting look at the world. Even when set to Spanish (Argentina) it dares to say "Isla Falklands (Isla Malvinas)" instead of the other way round. If they are going to make the change to Gulf of America based on Trump's orders, shouldn't they make sure it says Malvinas when set to Argentina in recognition of that country's long standing claims? (Especially since Milei is such a buddy buddy with Trump now... sigh)

I feel like years ago the Spanish (Argentina) setting did put Islas Malvinas first, but it's been so long since it occurred to me to check that I can't confirm this was the case.

Showing place names based on user location is the standard solution for territorial disputes. South China Sea shown in China, East Vietnam Sea shown in Vietnam. Kashmir boundaries are shown differently in different countries.

When I looked on Google Maps on the phone app, it was Gulf Of Mexico (Gulf Of America) for me (also in UK). Couple of days ago tho.

*edit, just checked Google Maps and Earth, Firefox while logged in to google, same as above
