Why are there police there?

With larger street events like this it’s not uncommon to request a police escort to ensure smooth travel of the clientele and prevent public injury

Some municipalities will require it for the permit.

edit: Also having traffic control could be to comply with their luxury car club's insurance policy. Millions of dollars of cars driving anywhere is gonna be worth the premium.

I'm having a really hard time right now not throwing salt at the ignorance of people sharpening their pitch forks over this.

That too

u/WeHaveAllBeenThere Feb 19 '25

I’m sure they’re also gonna get a LOT of “loud car on my street!! My baby is asleep!” 911 calls if there wasn’t a police presence lol

Permit Patties and Peters

u/Babys_For_Breakfast Feb 20 '25

lol sounds like my neighborhood. All the Karen’s on the street PANIC on 4th o July from small fireworks. Like, it’s only one day of the year, grow up and learn to have fun.

u/ecodrew Feb 20 '25

And, legalities aside... the cops probably thought it was cool too and were happy to show up.

2

u/StabithaStevens Feb 20 '25

Brother, it's like 10 cars, those officers are there to gawk at the cars and collect overtime, not for safety or insurance.

Do you need a permit to drive a caravan through a neighborhood? I guess that kind of makes sense if so, I'd never thought of it. And if so, at what size does the rule kick in? I've certainly been part of 3-4 car caravans before, now I'm wondering if I broke some law.

3

u/Flat-Lion-5990 Feb 20 '25

Probably varies on a very local level (town or county).

I'm guessing that as a supercar group, they have regular meets, and have had experience with any applicable laws or other "gotchyas" to know how to protect themselves.

Or maybe the kid also wanted to see cop cars and they were invited too.

This gives strong pandemic vibes (masks and the social distancing) and I think people were getting really creative to break monotony.

It's probably to comply with their luxury car club's insurance policy. Police get contracted $$ so they're obviously gonna do it.

What.. haha dude They’re clearly there as part of the birthday parade. They’re chirping their sirens and playing happy birthday over their mounted loud speaker…

89

u/Rekhodia Feb 19 '25

I mean they can do both!

34

u/Im-not-a-furry-trust Feb 19 '25

They’re allowed to be part of it. The kid asked for a supercar, not a charger

Chill.

Chances are that a kid that likes supercars is also into lights and sirens.

3

u/Rustywolf Feb 20 '25

It seems chill to me...

u/NiobiumThorn Feb 20 '25

And it's still copaganda, unfortunately.

7

u/The-Copilot Feb 20 '25

Agreed, it's how the rift between police and the community begins to heal. Both sides need more positive interactions with each other.

u/quack_quack_mofo Feb 20 '25

I cringed, damn

Have you ever seen someone comment “Reddit Moment?” It’s usually a reply to the most typical cliche eye rolling Reddit comments. This is one of those times.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '25

What a ridiculous comment.

13

u/BAMspek Feb 19 '25

I mean they’re there. Might as well wave and make cool siren noises.

1

u/Orleanian Feb 20 '25

I mean, yeah. That's what the guy is saying.

1

u/daversa Feb 20 '25

They're not mutually exclusive 🤷‍♂️

21

u/katie4 Feb 19 '25

Kids LOVE cop cars and fire trucks and things with sirens, I bet it was primarily for the party.

3

u/TheWitchHouseMan Feb 19 '25

Can you just request it? Do you need to pay for it? Or need to have a good reason?

Anyways that's pretty cool!

6

u/Cyrax89721 Feb 19 '25

They'd be out patrolling anyways, so I doubt they'd ever require payment.

2

u/Oops_All_Spiders Feb 20 '25

You guys have police that patrol?

3

u/Im-not-a-furry-trust Feb 19 '25

Depends. Something quick like this usually doesn’t require payment or much paperwork, however extended police presence will require both, with variables including area, number of attendees, location, etc

2

u/Orleanian Feb 20 '25

You can just request it. You would not typically have to pay them for this sort of service, as it is ostensibly still patrolling and keeping civic order on public streets.

You may have to pay (permit) if you wanted to actually shut the street down. That'd depend on the municipality's rules.

2

u/fmaz008 Feb 20 '25

If you plan any "big" event that has the potential to cause people to call the police on you (like a bunch of noisy cars showing up revving their engines in an otherwise calm neighborhood), it's a good idea to let police know.

1

u/Jioto Feb 20 '25

Nope. If you ever want this. Call your local police and fire. We love showing up for the kids and running our sirens and lights for them.

4

u/TheBupherNinja Feb 19 '25

Yeah, but like, they are literally just driving by.

1

u/EccentricMeat Feb 20 '25

Looks like they all parked, as did the cop, so probably a short stop so the kids can walk by and look at all the cars.

4

u/jewkakasaurus Feb 20 '25

True but also a lot of kids think cop cars are badass

-1

u/LotusVibes1494 Feb 20 '25

I learned what was up learned early on in life. The cops would come to my house when my asshole neighbors would call them over random stuff. Like when I was probably 10 years old the cops showed up because we were “being too loud in the swimming pool” lol. Or bc they didn’t like the way our tree looked. Conversely, the fire trucks would come to my block party just for kicks, drive us around and let us pull the horns, then opened up a hydrant on the street for everyone to play in the water. I hated cops before it was cool but loved fire trucks. I was also really into excavators, backhoes, and dump trucks, now that is some good shit right there. Must’ve had 10 different VHS tape documentaries about fire trucks and dump trucks lol. A simpler time…

-1

u/jewkakasaurus Feb 20 '25

Okay go live somewhere with zero police presence

0

u/Numerous-Confusion-9 Feb 20 '25

Because the police exist to protect property - like these very expensive cars
