Why are there police there?

1.2k

u/Im-not-a-furry-trust Feb 19 '25

With larger street events like this it’s not uncommon to request a police escort to ensure smooth travel of the clientele and prevent public injury

328

u/Full_Review4041 Feb 19 '25 edited Feb 20 '25

Some municipalities will require it for the permit.

edit: Also having traffic control could be to comply with their luxury car club's insurance policy. Millions of dollars of cars driving anywhere is gonna be worth the premium.

I'm having a really hard time right now not throwing salt at the ignorance of people sharpening their pitch forks over this.

44

u/Im-not-a-furry-trust Feb 19 '25

That too

54

u/WeHaveAllBeenThere Feb 19 '25

I’m sure they’re also gonna get a LOT of “loud car on my street!! My baby is asleep!” 911 calls if there wasn’t a police presence lol

8

u/FizzyBeverage Feb 20 '25

Permit Patties and Peters

1

u/Babys_For_Breakfast Feb 20 '25

lol sounds like my neighborhood. All the Karen’s on the street PANIC on 4th o July from small fireworks. Like, it’s only one day of the year, grow up and learn to have fun.

2

u/ecodrew Feb 20 '25

And, legalities aside... the cops probably thought it was cool too and were happy to show up.

2

u/StabithaStevens Feb 20 '25

Brother, it's like 10 cars, those officers are there to gawk at the cars and collect overtime, not for safety or insurance.

Do you need a permit to drive a caravan through a neighborhood? I guess that kind of makes sense if so, I'd never thought of it. And if so, at what size does the rule kick in? I've certainly been part of 3-4 car caravans before, now I'm wondering if I broke some law.

3

u/Flat-Lion-5990 Feb 20 '25

Probably varies on a very local level (town or county).

I'm guessing that as a supercar group, they have regular meets, and have had experience with any applicable laws or other "gotchyas" to know how to protect themselves.

Or maybe the kid also wanted to see cop cars and they were invited too.

This gives strong pandemic vibes (masks and the social distancing) and I think people were getting really creative to break monotony.

1

u/Full_Review4041 Feb 20 '25

It's probably to comply with their luxury car club's insurance policy. Police get contracted $$ so they're obviously gonna do it.

179

u/SlteFool Feb 19 '25

What.. haha dude They’re clearly there as part of the birthday parade. They’re chirping their sirens and playing happy birthday over their mounted loud speaker…

87

u/Rekhodia Feb 19 '25

I mean they can do both!

36

u/Im-not-a-furry-trust Feb 19 '25

They’re allowed to be part of it. The kid asked for a supercar, not a charger

15

u/[deleted] Feb 19 '25

17

u/dannymb87 Feb 19 '25

Chill.

Chances are that a kid that likes supercars is also into lights and sirens.

2

u/Rustywolf Feb 20 '25

It seems chill to me...

-3

u/NiobiumThorn Feb 20 '25

And it's still copaganda, unfortunately.

10

u/The-Copilot Feb 20 '25

Agreed, it's how the rift between police and the community begins to heal. Both sides need more positive interactions with each other.

2

u/quack_quack_mofo Feb 20 '25

I cringed, damn

2

u/SoOnAndYadaYada Feb 20 '25

Have you ever seen someone comment “Reddit Moment?” It’s usually a reply to the most typical cliche eye rolling Reddit comments. This is one of those times.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 20 '25

What a ridiculous comment.

15

u/BAMspek Feb 19 '25

I mean they’re there. Might as well wave and make cool siren noises.

1

u/Orleanian Feb 20 '25

I mean, yeah. That's what the guy is saying.

1

u/daversa Feb 20 '25

They're not mutually exclusive 🤷‍♂️

21

u/katie4 Feb 19 '25

Kids LOVE cop cars and fire trucks and things with sirens, I bet it was primarily for the party.

4

u/TheWitchHouseMan Feb 19 '25

Can you just request it? Do you need to pay for it? Or need to have a good reason?

Anyways that's pretty cool!

7

u/Cyrax89721 Feb 19 '25

They'd be out patrolling anyways, so I doubt they'd ever require payment.

2

u/Oops_All_Spiders Feb 20 '25

You guys have police that patrol?

3

u/Im-not-a-furry-trust Feb 19 '25

Depends. Something quick like this usually doesn’t require payment or much paperwork, however extended police presence will require both, with variables including area, number of attendees, location, etc

2

u/Orleanian Feb 20 '25

You can just request it. You would not typically have to pay them for this sort of service, as it is ostensibly still patrolling and keeping civic order on public streets.

You may have to pay (permit) if you wanted to actually shut the street down. That'd depend on the municipality's rules.

2

u/fmaz008 Feb 20 '25

If you plan any "big" event that has the potential to cause people to call the police on you (like a bunch of noisy cars showing up revving their engines in an otherwise calm neighborhood), it's a good idea to let police know.

1

u/Jioto Feb 20 '25

Nope. If you ever want this. Call your local police and fire. We love showing up for the kids and running our sirens and lights for them.

4

u/TheBupherNinja Feb 19 '25

Yeah, but like, they are literally just driving by.

1

u/EccentricMeat Feb 20 '25

Looks like they all parked, as did the cop, so probably a short stop so the kids can walk by and look at all the cars.

5

u/jewkakasaurus Feb 20 '25

True but also a lot of kids think cop cars are badass

-1

u/LotusVibes1494 Feb 20 '25

I learned what was up learned early on in life. The cops would come to my house when my asshole neighbors would call them over random stuff. Like when I was probably 10 years old the cops showed up because we were “being too loud in the swimming pool” lol. Or bc they didn’t like the way our tree looked. Conversely, the fire trucks would come to my block party just for kicks, drive us around and let us pull the horns, then opened up a hydrant on the street for everyone to play in the water. I hated cops before it was cool but loved fire trucks. I was also really into excavators, backhoes, and dump trucks, now that is some good shit right there. Must’ve had 10 different VHS tape documentaries about fire trucks and dump trucks lol. A simpler time…

-1

u/jewkakasaurus Feb 20 '25

Okay go live somewhere with zero police presence

0

u/Numerous-Confusion-9 Feb 20 '25

Because the police exist to protect property - like these very expensive cars

242

u/OmgSlayKween Feb 19 '25

When you buy a supercar in America you're assigned your own cop concierge in case you get harassed by the poors.

38

u/ktjtkt Feb 19 '25

Best answer. Thank you.

14

u/Andokai_Vandarin667 Feb 19 '25

Yea no. If you only own one super car you're still considered a poor.

1

u/buy-american-you-fuk Feb 20 '25

your tax dollars at work...

1

u/Silver-Year5607 Feb 20 '25

Unironically.

30

u/SlteFool Feb 19 '25

They’re clearly there as part of the birthday parade. They’re chirping their sirens and playing happy birthday over their mounted loud speaker…

2

u/ktjtkt Feb 20 '25

There was no mention of a “parade” just a group of car owners. I just assumed she reached out so some organization of car club.

17

u/xx4coryh Feb 19 '25

Must be like an escort for all the cars

8

u/Long_Initiative_811 Feb 19 '25

1

u/Yowomboo Feb 19 '25

Yes, let me block traffic so the cars spend even more time idling in the neighborhood.

12

u/r3tract Feb 19 '25

They are arresting the mother for public disturbance

20

u/OneSensiblePerson Feb 19 '25

I can't figure out what exactly is going on here.

141

u/AlvinsCuriousCasper Feb 19 '25

It’s a parade of cars during social distancing times for a little boys birthday. Cops most likely got wind of it and coordinated with the drivers for the parade.

38

u/OneSensiblePerson Feb 19 '25

Ah. The days of social distancing like this seem so long ago. Makes sense that all the cops are cooperating, basically escorting the cars, for this reason.

We were all going kind of stir crazy with boredom.

1

u/rW0HgFyxoJhYka Feb 20 '25

Speak for yourself. I had hella steam backlogs to catch up on.

11

u/[deleted] Feb 19 '25

[deleted]

5

u/photosendtrain Feb 19 '25

This doesn't seem to be a parade though, rather just car owners meeting together and driving in the same direction. I imagine most car meetup cruises don't have police escorts. That said, given the value of the car, you can certainly request a police escort for situations like this. Just got out a funeral (rip gpa), and we had a lengthy cavalcade to the graveyard. My brother and I were both saying how surprised we were at the amount of police. Basically blocked like 4 intersections/lights to get everyone through (like 30 cars). I imagine it's in everyones best interest that a massive surge of traffic is given priority so it can clear the roads for normal travel.

2

u/CraigJay Feb 20 '25

What, needing permits for a parade? We’re watching 8 cars driving down a road

The police cars are adding an additional 50% if traffic. It’s absolute nonsense that they are there, there’s no justification for their presence whatsoever

1

u/Full_Review4041 Feb 20 '25

It's probably to comply with their luxury car club's insurance policy. Police get contracted $$ so they're obviously gonna do it.

-7

u/OneOfTheWills Feb 19 '25

Being part of the parade isn’t traffic control. This is showboating for propaganda.

7

u/D3dshotCalamity Feb 19 '25

Car clubs will often get escorts so their convoy doesn't get broken up by traffic. Do you think funeral processions have police escorts so the cops can look cool?

-1

u/OneOfTheWills Feb 19 '25

Funerals only get escorts over highways, not city streets.

I know from experience, so don’t try the whole reddit BS

1

u/thekuler Feb 19 '25

I just drove in an police-escorted funeral procession 2 weeks ago.

-3

u/OneOfTheWills Feb 19 '25

🤷🏻‍♂️

😂

Like that magically means anything at all in this world. Fuck this is hilarious how you are trying so hard to make a point valid through meaningless anecdote

Guys! The one guy did a thing!! Guys!! Look!!

I love how this is pissing all of you off 😂

3

u/thekuler Feb 19 '25

If my real world experience isn’t enough for you, that’s on you and not me. I’d tell you to take an internet break, but I don’t really care what you do or think. Best of luck to you-

1

u/D3dshotCalamity Feb 19 '25

Funerals only get escorts over highways, not city streets.

They do for high-profile funerals, like politicians, military, or police officers.

Source

I know from experience, so don’t try the whole reddit BS

"Trust me, bro" as a source is the only Reddit BS here

1

u/Minute_Sympathy3222 Feb 20 '25

Not true.

I live in a country town in Australia, and the police here will close the streets(on a highway) for a funeral procession, no matter who the person is.

How do I know? My brother(not a politician or anybody famous) had the streets closed for his funeral procession in 2003. Because that is how big his funeral was.

-2

u/OneOfTheWills Feb 19 '25

😂 there it is!! There’s the thing! Called it.

Literally says “hired” in the source too and yall here arguing as if it’s law that this must happen in every city town and village 😂

1

u/D3dshotCalamity Feb 19 '25

When did I say it was a law? When did I say they weren't hired? Is "Y'all" in the room with us right now? Because "Y'all" sure ain't me.

Go cry somewhere else. I’ll continue to personally offend your “heroes” every chance I get and enjoy every minute of it while being young at heart, you crusty old being 😂

1

u/Colley619 Feb 20 '25

I doubt this is a permit situation like some are saying, more likely that the supercar organizer reached out to local PD to let them know what they were doing in case of disturbance calls and such, and the cops showed up to flash their lights too.

-5

u/OneOfTheWills Feb 19 '25 edited Feb 19 '25

Cops wanted to look cool and took advantage of a situation, like always.

Could have easily done this without lights and sirens and without half of the force showing up.

Edit: I absolutely don’t care about anyone’s attempt to make themselves feel better about their love for authority in replies to what I said.

I’ll double down on what I said every time. 😘

8

u/legallypotato Feb 19 '25

Probably made the little kid happy though.

You can see the officers waving to the birthday boy.

Having the police there prevents the sad sacks from ringing the police and complaining about the 'noisy cars' in the street.

Every year since 2020, my local town has had Santa do a tour in the back of an old car, and he is escorted by a police car and fire engine.

The police car uses its lights and sirens to let the children in each street know that Santa is coming, so the parents can get them out onto the footpath to meet Santa and receive a lolly from Santa and Santa's Elf and Mrs Clause.

0

u/OneOfTheWills Feb 20 '25

Copaganda. But you all don’t like when that’s pointed out so idk what else to tell you.

Justifying it doesn’t change the intent.

I love that you think any display of law enforcement is “copaganda.” I also love that you attempted to paint Reddit as a fan of law enforcement when it’s the largest gathering of anti-police slacktivists.

Dude what has the internet done to your brain

1

u/OneOfTheWills Feb 19 '25

Oh, go cry somewhere else

5

u/wutchamafuckit Feb 19 '25

Looking at your comments here, seems like you're the only person crying. But hey, at least you sound tough.

0

u/OneOfTheWills Feb 19 '25

Crying? Na. Laughing at people attempting to upset me or offend me or attack me for my personal opinion is more like it.

The fact that any of you think you could say something to get me to, “oh.. yeah.. cops are great!” Is just fucking hilarious

7

u/RedditNotRabit Feb 19 '25

If seeing kids having fun and people coming out to enjoy a fun thing together is upsetting you then it's time for you to go outside and stay off the Internet

0

u/OneOfTheWills Feb 19 '25

It absolutely doesn’t upset me that this awesome kid got to see something amazing for his birthday.

He didn’t ask for cops. FTP. Always.

Suck it.

2

u/RedditNotRabit Feb 19 '25

I would say that's a childish mentality but children aren't as jaded. I'm sure you don't do much deep thinking as apparently you think the police are always in the wrong. Which is idiotic.

They showed up and made sure there wasn't any issues and likely legally were required to do so. They joined in the fun and made the day extra special for the kids. Oh those darn cops being nice to kids and doing their jobs. I'm sure that was hard for you to watch.

But hey, at least we have people to yell FTP every time they see something with a cop on the Internet. Not a single original thought in there for some people.

1

u/OneOfTheWills Feb 19 '25

😂

What a waste of time that was for you to type

1

u/RedditNotRabit Feb 19 '25

That's true. Too many words for you in it

0

u/WeirdIndividualGuy Feb 19 '25

OOP in the video asked a local supercar group to drop by for their son's bday

Cops are bought and paid for

If you can afford a supercar, you're probably filthy rich

The supercar owners bought and paid cops to escort them as a convoy just because they can

1

u/OneSensiblePerson Feb 20 '25

Oh, I thought OOP found this video, and it reminded him of the time he arranged for his son to see a Lamborghini on his BD.

7

u/MobileArtist1371 Feb 19 '25

Supercars: hey we aren't here to cause any trouble.

Cops: ok. Go for it, but since you're supercars we want in on this lol

Supercars: sounds good!

Supercars: -revs engine- -backfires- pop pop POW POW

Cops: pow pow back

3

u/lucid808 Feb 20 '25

I'm sure most, if not all, of those patrolmen loved that they got to be apart of that and went home to tell everyone how cool it was that night. Probably the coolest thing some of them have done in years.

1

u/fmaz008 Feb 20 '25

True, there should be more community policing (positive involvement of police within the community)

3

u/whackamolereddit Feb 19 '25

It's basically a parade

5

u/BKIrish Feb 19 '25

Cause their first duty is to serve the community. Help the community come together, be neighborhoods that mean something to one another. Police can really help build that culture.

4

u/PrestigeArrival Feb 19 '25

0

u/cadencehz Feb 20 '25

Thank you. And guy below and most of Reddit will be a-holes.

1

u/PastaRunner Feb 19 '25

Any time a bunch of people state meeting on the street, especially people with expensive toys they want to show off, they try to get cops over to monitor it.

1

u/VibraniumQueen Feb 20 '25

I swear I've seen this video before but it said the birthday boy wanted to see police cars/fire engines.

1

u/ImTryingToHelpYouMF Feb 20 '25

To arrest the kid.

God damn kid was a menace. He's been organizing street takeovers for the past 2 and a half years (half his life essentially). Finally, they're cracking down on these degenerates!!!!

1

u/Original_Boat6539 Feb 20 '25

Because Karen (who’s the HOA president) has 911 on speed dial AND the two million dollar supercar parade can afford private police escorts two or three times a year to avoid issues

1

u/hillsounds Feb 20 '25

wasting money

1

u/TobiWithAnEye Feb 20 '25

Where there’s fun, there’s the policy enforcers.

1

u/broady35 Feb 20 '25

This was most likely during Covid. If the mom reached out to a local sports car group she may have also reached out to the local PD who generally would try and accommodate these ‘Drive-By’ style parties that used to happen. It could also be recent for some other reason but unlike what some others said it’s actually most likely not an escort.

I can answer this. I am a neighbour who first called the police on the kids for loitering outside in a menacing manner.

I also rang up again and requested more patrols as there were a bunch of anti socials driving those loud, fossil fucking cars.

I didn’t buy a Tesla to have such unruly road noise. Plus real men drive Cyber Cucks.. I mean Cyber Trucks.
