I can't figure out what exactly is going on here.

It’s a parade of cars during social distancing times for a little boys birthday. Cops most likely got wind of it and coordinated with the drivers for the parade.

This doesn't seem to be a parade though, rather just car owners meeting together and driving in the same direction. I imagine most car meetup cruises don't have police escorts. That said, given the value of the car, you can certainly request a police escort for situations like this. Just got out a funeral (rip gpa), and we had a lengthy cavalcade to the graveyard. My brother and I were both saying how surprised we were at the amount of police. Basically blocked like 4 intersections/lights to get everyone through (like 30 cars). I imagine it's in everyones best interest that a massive surge of traffic is given priority so it can clear the roads for normal travel.

What, needing permits for a parade? We’re watching 8 cars driving down a road

The police cars are adding an additional 50% if traffic. It’s absolute nonsense that they are there, there’s no justification for their presence whatsoever

It's probably to comply with their luxury car club's insurance policy. Police get contracted $$ so they're obviously gonna do it.

Being part of the parade isn’t traffic control. This is showboating for propaganda.

Car clubs will often get escorts so their convoy doesn't get broken up by traffic. Do you think funeral processions have police escorts so the cops can look cool?

Funerals only get escorts over highways, not city streets.

I know from experience, so don’t try the whole reddit BS

I just drove in an police-escorted funeral procession 2 weeks ago.

If my real world experience isn’t enough for you, that’s on you and not me. I’d tell you to take an internet break, but I don’t really care what you do or think. Best of luck to you-

Funerals only get escorts over highways, not city streets.

They do for high-profile funerals, like politicians, military, or police officers.

"Trust me, bro" as a source is the only Reddit BS here

Not true.

I live in a country town in Australia, and the police here will close the streets(on a highway) for a funeral procession, no matter who the person is.

How do I know? My brother(not a politician or anybody famous) had the streets closed for his funeral procession in 2003. Because that is how big his funeral was.

😂 there it is!! There’s the thing! Called it.

Literally says “hired” in the source too and yall here arguing as if it’s law that this must happen in every city town and village 😂

1

u/D3dshotCalamity Feb 19 '25

When did I say it was a law? When did I say they weren't hired? Is "Y'all" in the room with us right now? Because "Y'all" sure ain't me.

Dude. Yall is everyone trying to comment on what I said with failed “actually” arguments

Also, what is the whole point of what you posted then if it adds nothing to any point being made? 😂

You said that the police being there wasn't traffic control, and I explained that large groups of cars (Like clubs going to a show, or funeral processions) will often hire a police escort to keep the group together so they all arrive at their destination at the same time. It's not to "Indoctrinate the youth to love the police" or whatever you think.

I can provide my own "Trust me bro" source of me being a car guy, and I've been to many large shows where huge clubs will arrive with police escorts (That they hired) so they can all park together.

I don't know what anyone else said to you, but that's all I said.

An escort doesn’t keep the group together. An escort clears the way. A patrol vehicle will sometimes take up the rear as a way to allow traffic to know that is the end of the procession and to resume normal flow but it isn’t to “keep the group together” like they are being herded.

Traffic control isn’t within the parade. It’s parked along the route at known intersections. An escort will run ahead and clear an intersection, not go at parade speed with the group.

These cops are in a parade. It has nothing to do with safety or traffic control.

I do this for a living. Thanks! 😂
