96 year old man who tries not to drive gets dragged into court on a school zone violation only to have his case dismissed. that’s what america is all about

Jesus Christ these people. My man lived more than a tortoise and they are still bugging him. It Is insane that you should be forced to do anything After you worked your share for all your Life. But then again, i don't even think there Is pension in usa, i think It Is privatized

There is, Social Security.

I haven’t checked DOGE news today, so I can only assume you are right (for now).

I've literally never seen one break the speed limit.

That's why they live so long. Very careful creatures.

Maybe he's talking about some sort of teenaged militant non-compliant tortoise.

Yea i am quite the zoologist

Humans live up to 122 years old and obey traffic laws

3

u/cheesy_anon Feb 27 '25

I have to argue with that

It's a japan joke (although the record setter in question was French)

I assume you’re from Europe with your use of the word “pension”.

The US DOES have roughly equivalent government programs. MedicAid pays for health care of poor and indigent families. MediCare pays for health care for anyone over the age of 65 or anyone of any age that is physically or mentally disabled or has certain lifelong health conditions. Social Security pays money monthly to retirees and you can start collecting Social Security payments between the ages of 62 and 70.

When you use “pension” in the US it generally refers to private companies (or government employees) collecting retirement benefits from those companies, not a government subsidy. Most private companies no longer have a pension program, it is replaced with 401k programs where the employer usually pays some matching money into a retirement fund that the employee can also put money into.

The US does not have automatic government cradle-to-grave benefits so you hear many people absolutely trashing the system, especially online, and it sounds like we kick anyone that’s poor into the street, but that’s simply not true.

Not for much longer

Yeah it's literally getting its budget cut so a lot of this shit isn't gonna last much longer.

“LITeralLy geTTinG its bUdgEt cUt”

Oh yeah? Show me one shred of evidence that Social Security is dropping its payments to recipients by actively cutting its budget.

Social Security’s budget has gone up every single year for the past 50 years, under every administration.

Medicaid literally had its federal budget voted to be slashed the other day. I did not mention SSA. But at the same time, Trump has said he wouldn't let them touch Medicaid. So clearly SSA is likely up next down the line.

That Is the impression, and "cool/edgy/shocking" spreads much faster than "true". What i know about Is Italy but i am pretty sure other european countries do that too. We get paid something like half of what we really earn. This cover every Need except domestic ones. And part of the not payed Money, Will be given to you under the form of pension once you have done working. the bad thing Is that it's not like those Money are stored in a super bank. Those Money are SPENT by the state. This means that in 40/50 years when i Will have done working, if the state goes in default, my Money are never given back

Republicans have been trying to cut these programs

And it's show business. I have seen a series of videos with this judge dismissing charges for defendants with a sob story. I am sure dismissing was the right call each time but that's exactly the point; it's only on the internet for engagement dollars.

Came here to say this. Glad there’s still some sanity left

2

u/MustardMan1900 Feb 27 '25

He wasn't dragged to court. He went to court to dispute a ticket that should not have been dismissed just because his 63 year old son has cancer.

2

u/Brhumbus Feb 27 '25

That old man should have had the book thrown at him. That's what America used to be about.

u/smoebob99 Feb 27 '25

What about the pig that actually gave him the citation

8

u/jastubi Feb 27 '25

Could have been a camera a lot of those in school zones.
