Artwork - OC See, What Makima's Contract Would Have Been...

Here’s a fun rephrasing of Makima’s contract with Japan’s Prime Minister—inspired by a post I made recently about how many ways it could be bypassed. When you break it down, Makima’s original contract is more a psychological shield than a practical one. It gives off the appearance of invincibility, but in truth, it only protects her from direct, malicious attacks. It’s perfect for predictable threats—enemies who hate her and want her dead—and Makima knows very well she has a very long list of enemies that will gladly end her.

When you dissect her contract, you'll find that:

  1. It only protects against direct intent to harm.
    - If someone truly wants to kill her, the damage gets redirected to a random Japanese citizen.
    - But if the intent is something else—love, devotion, delusion—it doesn’t activate.
    - That’s how Denji got her. He didn’t attack her. He loved her and never wished her any harm (Chainsaw Man, Ch. 97).

2. It doesn’t cover passive or environmental dangers.
- Disease, radiation, drowning, space, etc.—if it’s not a targeted attack, she’s just as vulnerable as anyone else.

3. It's vulnerable to unconventional thinking.
- A devoted follower might kill her believing it’s “for her own good.”
- Someone could manipulate a situation that leads to her death without laying a finger on her.
- Basically, any loophole in intent can be fatal.

4. It’s not true immortality.
- She still has to avoid harm, because her contract only triggers under specific conditions.
- That’s why she relies so heavily on intimidation, control, and manipulation.

With this in mind, what really keeps her alive isn’t the contract—it’s fear. Most people never even try to challenge her because they assume she’s untouchable. That illusion is her armor. Once you understand the limits of her contract, you realize she’s terrifying, but not unkillable.

Now, the rephrased contract featured in the artwork is just a fun "what if" I imagined. It’s meant to patch the flaws in Makima’s original deal—namely, the loopholes around intent, method, and perception. You couldn’t get her with love, accidents, devotion, or by thinking outside the box. She’d be truly untouchable—so long as Japan had citizens left (or citizenship).

This is where things get interesting:

One of Makima’s dreams was to be eaten by Pochita. If she had this “upgraded” contract, I honestly think it might force him to do it. Either she reshapes the world through Control—or her idol consumes her, fulfilling one of her twisted dreams. Win-win!

Pochita didn’t just refrain from eating Makima because he sensed her desire for a family—though that’s certainly part of it. He probably also held back because doing so would’ve been the most catastrophic choice imaginable. Control shapes society, governs relationships, curbs behavior, and ensures survival. If Pochita had devoured and erased the concept of Control, it would have plunged the world into chaos. Not just politically or socially, but on a psychological and existential level. Without control, living beings, including devils, would lose the ability to resist their impulses. There’d be no inhibition, no structure—only instinct, madness, and collapse. Reality itself might unravel, dragging the world back to a primal, pre-conscious, animalistic free-for-all.

Anywho, this was just a fun thought experiment. Enjoy the art :)

Theory Famis Goal Spoiler

I see alot of theory and i was wondering, where is it stated that notfami wants do die ? Everybody asumed that is true and I didn't find any hints. Even the last chapter only statet that she got rid of all here organs, not that she intended to die. Maybe she did just sell them to get Some money or spend them to help other humans ?

My crackpot theory is that her goal is that she wants to live. And not in a biological sense of simple being alive, but more in a human / philosophy way to life live to its fullest. The opposite of her horseman identity... Same with Makima wanting an equal relation ship while being domination and Yoru wants sex / love while being war. Thats why she likes to eat good food, doing think that she things is fun (like school festival and going to school) and thats why she hides her identity, to just live a life.

Cheers

Discussion The Fake Chainsaw Man has become less „humanoid“ Spoiler

I was re-reading a couple of the previous Part 2 Chapters and have realised, this might also be due to Fujimoto not yet having a solid idea of what he wanted its design to be, that the Fake Chainsaw Man had become less human. In Chapter 128 you can clearly see his hands are similar to those of a human, while in Chapter 196 it‘s obvious that they become more akin to those of a Devil. With people speculating or maybe now it‘s more obvious that this may be the fear of Chainsaw Man Devil, it is interesting to see that after the incident with the Fire Devil people have shifted the perception of Chainsaw Man from a hero of mankind (ergo the human appearance in 129) to a devil which might be there for mankind (ergo the devilish appearance in 196). Is this too farfetched and a coincidence or is Fujimoto actually the Goat and deserves all glazing.

Discussion Do you guys think that we'll get a "Pain Devil", or something similar in the future?

Post image

I think that a "Pain Devil" will be the only devil (other than Pochita and War/Nuclear) that'll not only be able to rival, but possibly kill Death.

Although most primordial devils are under the hands of the Horsemen, I think that Pain would be independent and pretty strong, because think about it. People are literally so afraid of feeling pain that they choose Death instead, the only thing that all living things are instinctively programmed to be afraid of.

There hasn't been no living things in the universe so far that hasn't been instinctively afraid of death, yet it's the preferred option when compared to the horrors of pain. If we go deeper, all humans are afraid of devils in the first place because of pain.

What are your guys' thoughts? Would Fujimoto really curveball us like this and introduce a stronger devil than Death? Or would the Pain Devil be a ridiculous thing to introduce?

Discussion Just finished Goodbye Eri Spoiler

It's really weird but after mulling over it it's kind of starting to make sense. I feel like it's supposed to be an exploration of what art can and can't be and what its purpose is. It starts with the protagonist making a movie of his mother dying for a school festival, which is already out there, and gets weirder with the explosive ending. The fact it's so bizarre results in everyone hating it except for one person who finds aspects of it good. That person also talks about the need to have a structure to a story - exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution.

Yet Goodbye Eri doesn't really follow a structure, it has a ton of climaxes and rising or falling actions and expositions and resolutions all over the place, sometimes all at the same time, largely depending on your perspective. Goodbye Eri's ending can be seen as all 5 at once in one way or another. There are a bunch of different plot points, strange moments, stylistic choices and unreliable narration that make it even more confusing. Yet Goodbye Eri still leaves an impact, it hits even though something feels missing like the protagonist felt was missing in their film. Goodbye Eri shows that art is really flexible, that it doesn't need to follow a structure or cliches and at the same time doesn't need to avert them either, sometimes all a good story takes is a basic structure with a little fantasy on top.

Goodbye Eri also explores the purpose of art. The protagonist's films can be seen as fulfilling many different purposes, whether it be to honor the dead, to convey a message, to cope with loss, or simply to have fun. It can be one or the other or multiple at the same time. Depending on the reader Goodbye Eri could have achieved all of them. This flexibility shows that just as the form of art can change wildly and still have an impact its purpose can be just as divergent.

For me, Goodbye Eri was encouraging, a call to action that one can make any kind of art they want and even if nobody even gets to see that art that act of creation can have meaning, however ridiculous that meaning may be, however terrible that end product is.

There’s a very well-made motion manga on YouTube of this scene which really sets the tone for the Darkness Devil

But I wonder how you guys think Mappa will handle this scene ?

I find it kinda hard to see how they will replicate the atmosphere and despair felt in the manga

Discussion What devils do you think Fami commands?

I think what separates the horsemen from rest of the devils is that they are able to make other devils related to them do their bidding. Makima had the most variety of devils to choose from but has to work harder which is why she commands mostly lower tier devils, Yoru commands devils related to war which are more fearsome by nature (gun, bombs) while the Death Devil being the strongest commands primals like falling and aging(unsure if she could command darkness or not). So which devils do you think Fami commands?

Discussion Im super lost

What is going on, I just binged all of chainsaw man TODAY because of a friends recommendation and now I am fully invested. Then it just ends all of a sudden, I try to look stuff up and found little to nothing. WIth the only thing being found was a movie trailer and the list of manga volumes. Being new to the whole anime scene I have no clue what volumes or chapters are in manga/anime and how they coninceide with the anime, I think. I've been meaning to find this out and it seemed like an appropriate time.
