AskChennai Just a happy post

Hi makkale,

This is just a little reflection on how even small deeds can bring about happiness.

So, I was heading to my university for convocation and booked a train ticket (it got confirmed, SU... YAAAY, right?).

Anyway, the train was at 3 pm, and I had to make my way to the central railway station from home. I was running a bit late, so I rushed to the bus stand. Just then, I saw a direct bus to central approaching quickly. I started chasing it, running towards the bus. The bus got stuck in traffic, and as I was about to board, the door was locked. Traffic cleared, and the bus started moving again. By now, I was already exhausted from running, and the bus stand was about 100 meters away.

That’s when a middle-aged man (not in a white t-shirt though) noticed me chasing the bus, stopped his bike, and asked me to hop on quickly. He then asked, "antha bus dhana?" I said yes, and he chased the bus and helped me board it. I thanked him, saying, "romba thanks, uncle," and he continued on his way. I got on the bus and made it to central on time to catch my train.

Once I boarded the bus, I couldn’t help but feel grateful. It was such a simple gesture, but it made me think: we’re all so caught up in our own lives that we rarely notice others around us. Even though it was a small deed, it really made me happy.

I’m not saying that without his help, I wouldn’t have made it on time or missed the train. But his kindness was a reminder that small actions can make a big difference.

Rant Nonsense Neighbors

So last morning, after taking my dog for a walk, i found that my neighbor has kept these massive thermocol sheets right at my entrance. They were literally blocking the way. I ring their bell and ask them to move it and also mention that this kind of thing keeps happening (they often keep random stuff in front of my door). They ask me if I can move it, I say no (it’s their mess), so they finally move it.

Now here’s where it gets annoying. I have a dog, and we spend mornings and evenings on the terrace. Last evening when i went to the terrace, i saw that some (possibly that very same) thermocol has been broken up into tiny pieces—like snow. It’s all over the terrace. It’s settled in the plants, in the water bowl we keep for birds, and I’m seriously worried it’ll go into my dog’s nose when she sniffs around. I also saw crows trying to eat it, and there are stray cats that come up to the terrace too. It’s basically turned into a choking hazard for every creature around.

I asked them to clean it up, but I don’t know how seriously they’ll take it or if they’ll even do a good job. Part of me wonders if this was some passive-aggressive revenge move because I called them out earlier.

Anyway, just needed to vent and ask what could be done if they choose not to clean it up?

29F. Doing my masters now in english lit. Doing both ug and pg in distance under madras University. I run a business from past 6 years and I was earning around an average of 40kpm. I feel that the business is going down since it's total online I find it very difficult to engaging the content. I somehow ended up with anxiety Meds last year and now on recovery road. I have never worked under anyone nor even have idea of how it works. My whole family runs business and I don't have anyone to guide me in the education or other part. I love teaching as well. I am a good student. Since it's distance education the lectures were not good. We are around 300 members in our group and I send audios to help them study. Everyone thanked me and many where evn suprised to hear that I am not working because they thought i would be working somewhere as a teacher. I felt so good about it. Now coming back, I am not sure about whether it's right to leave my business and join as a teacher in some school. The pay will definitely be lower than what i already earn, but I am confident about my skills. Somewhere inside my heart I am verv nervous stepping out for the first time in my life. I don't even know to write a resume. I pulled ug and now pulling pg all by my own self. I don't know if I have better options to work. I am not even sure how to approach a school for a job. If anyone is working as a teacher and you have an advice or anything related to this , please let me know .

P. S - already have a youtube channel where i upload my audios . I have a tution teacher near my home who is doing it for 12+ years .

Hello,

If you've a own house and you're renting it. In what duration will you be increasing the rent? Is it after every year or once in 2 years?

I own a house in North Chennai, current tenant at my house is here since 1.5 yrs. Wanted to understand if I should increase the rent or should I wait for completion of 2 years. And also what is the recommended % of raise for the rent?

Any insights on this would be really appreciated.

AskChennai Advice needed

Hey Chennai folks 👋

I'm trying to gather some insights and would love your honest opinions. When it comes to hospitals in Chennai, specifically Apollo Hospitals and MGM Healthcare, which one do you think generally offers better services and care? I am looking for the following departments: Gastro,Urologist, cardiologist,ENT,Neuro and Ortho respectively. I'm interested in hearing about your experiences with: Quality of doctors and medical staff Treatment and diagnosis Facilities and infrastructure Overall patient experience Sometimes online reviews can be mixed, so I'm hoping to get some real, firsthand perspectives from people who might have been treated at either (or both) facilities.

AskChennai Chennai in the 2000s?

I’m from a smaller town in Tamil Nadu, and growing up, going to Chennai every few months was our big city outing. I was just watching the movie Boys, and it reminded me of other early 2000s films like Enakku 20 Unakku 18 that came across as super modern for their time.

But honestly, even today, walking around Chennai without getting stared at feels unlikely.

It got me thinking what was it actually like growing up in Chennai in the 2000s? Was life anywhere close to what shown in those movies, or were they just overly glamorized versions of reality?
