新闻 | News CNN - Reading the tree leaves: Why a no-show by China’s No.2 general has speculation running wild

  • Context:
    • General He Weidong, China's second-highest-ranking military officer and vice chairman of the Central Military Commission was absent from a decades-old military tree-planting ceremony, fueling speculation about his potential involvement in Xi Jinping's ongoing purge of military leadership.
  • Reality:
    • This is a super important tree planting ceremony. Very sus that he is not there.
    • Also it's not the first time some Dong was missing and the rumor mill went crazy over it.
    • But it's also not the first time, Xi activates his anti-corruption purge spell card

历史 | History During the height of the Mongol Yuan Dynasty, when the empire had already conquered China, Asia, Middle East, Europe — they launched three massive invasions into Vietnam — and failed every single time. Vietnam became one of the only nations to successfully resist and repel the Mongols at their peak.

During the 13th century, the Mongol Yuan Dynasty launched three invasions against Đại Việt (modern-day Vietnam) in 1258, 1285, and 1287. Despite being vastly outnumbered and facing one of the most powerful military forces in history, the Vietnamese—led by the Trần dynasty—successfully repelled all three invasions, making Vietnam one of the very few nations to defeat the Mongols at their peak.

经济 | Economy How is the Chinese economy currently doing?

I remember a few months ago, there was talk of the economy crashing and tanking, but it seems to be doing okay so far?

What are your thoughts?

Also, ishowspeed’s China stream tour seemed to be really good press for China as a whole, Speed’s western audience got a glimpse into what China is actually like and it seemed to help boost overall public perception, which could add to China’s economy.

旅游 | Travel 30 days visa exemption : can I stay longer by traveling to Hong Kong ?

Upvotes

I’ll be traveling to China this summer with the 30 days visa exemption that some countries’ citizens have. I usually have the 90 days visa to visit my family, but this year we decided to take advantage of this and not ask for a visa

If I travel to Hong Kong, stay a few days there and travel back to China, will the 30 days visa exemption reset (and I’ll be able to stay another 30 days) ? Also is there a maximum days you can stay in the territory ?

Thanks guys !!

"Regrettably, alongside its wealth of credible reporting, SCMP has also developed a distinct genre of science stories based entirely on a single paper published in a Chinese (sometimes quasi-) academic journal. A recent prime example is a recent article, China unveils a powerful deep-sea cable cutter that could reset the world order, which has since spread widely, misleading BloombergCNNMERICS, and Lowy Institute, as well as top China experts on Twitter"

I'm trying to open a Chinese bank account to connect it to my Alipay account and fund it using a local debit card. However, I don’t have a permanent residence permit or any official residency status in China. I've been searching online, but it’s really hard to find clear and reliable information on this topic.
