Question/Advice/Discussion EDC Watches
I've owned this watch for about a week, so still relatively new to my growing collection. I get quite a few questions about this watch on this subreddit, so I thought I would share the details and information.
Daiso Mili Watch
-Specs: 38mm case (this is my best guess)
-Fixed lugs (this watch will only accept nato straps but with some light modding, you could possibly get it to accept spring bars.)
-Standard military spec dial with 12 & 24 hour time.
-Lume on the hour markers as well as the hands. (Not the greatest or brightest but it gets the job done in a pinch.)
-Hattori/Epson PC215 Movement. (The company is owned by Seiko. The movement itself is made in Singapore. Takes a SR626SW battery which is good for about two years, according to research I did on the movement.)
-It is hackable.
When it comes to edc, knives and flashlights usually take center stage next to wallets and possibly handguns. Not a lot of people, this day and age wear a watch for obvious reasons. We all carry a phone of some sort today that tells this. Watches give us another reason to unplug from technology just to check something simple as time, unless you wear a smartwatch of course. It also gives us an opportunity to be more customizable. To change straps, to add a pop of color or to play it on the down low. Watches tell others you care about your time and how you use it. They add a level of detail to yourself as an individual.
If you wear a watch for edc, which one do you wear. If you don't, why not?

Army basic training watch?

No, this watch came from a shop called Daiso in Japan. These watches are quite popular in Japanese watch collecting circles for being inexpensive but high in quality. Best watch I could compare the look to is a Vietnam War era Benrus.

apple watch. works just fine without a phone keeping you connected but you cant browse internet on it, so works as sort of a "dumb phone"

Watch looks great. I recently checked multiple Daisos in CA and they don't carry this, so I may have to order soon.
Is the cover resistant to scratches? Made of glass? Plastic?

Thanks. Yeah, this watch is only available in the Daiso's in Japan. I ordered mine through eBay from a Japanese seller.
It's a plastic crystal so I can imagine it being easy to scratch. Even more so since it's domed.

Cool. This may replace my decade old, still working tiny Casio MQ-24-9B, similar 12/24hr face.

Nice Bertucci! I was looking into those before I bought my Daiso. How is it?

It took some getting used to. It’s certainly a larger watch, but the lithium lighting is great in low light settings, maybe 5 +- a month, and is really just a solid tank. A watch that I’m not having to consciously be aware of where my wrist is in relation to anything I walk near.

I wear an automatic Vaer A5 Field watch. They are assembled in the US. They have a quartz and solar models too.

Yes, but only available in the Japanese locations from what I was told. I paid $10 for mine directly shipped from Japan. Absolute banger of a watch.

Nice watch! I recently read that a growing number of kids are not able to read a watch face. I hope it’s not accurate, because that is incredibly depressing.

I have also, unfortunately, read about this statement a few years back. A lot of kids these days read the time on their phone. Even if they do wear a watch, it's more or less digital. It's more easier to read quickly compared to an analog piece. Even I find it a little difficult to read an analog dial at times since I have a learning disability actually. So I usually go with military dials myself since they're the easiest to read quickly for me. It's even more true when it comes to reading roman numerals. Along with reading an analog dial, penmanship has also slowly decreased. I heard that they no longer teach curve in schools.

My most used is the casio mw240 second a168.

The A168 is a great watch. Had one in my previous collection many years ago.

I don't because I don't have to document the time regularly or if I do, someone else's clock keeps the official time. The last time I regularly carried a watch, it was a a timex dangling from a beltloop. Something like the modern carabiner watches they sell today but it was a standard wristwatch.
Which isn't to say I wouldn't, if I found something I really liked. I'm also excessively cheap. Although I did often have an issue with stank wrist from wearing one all day.

I get that, I didn't wear a watch for over a year. I was always indoors where there was always a clock I could look at and I was on the computer as well that told me the time in the corner. But after a while it did feel quite empty on my wrist.

Timex Expedition Scout

I had one when I was younger, great watches. I use to have a whole collection of Timex watches at one point before they went more focused on the collectors market.

I love mine. Unfortunately the adjustment dial broke off. Going to a watch repair shop when I get some time to see if it’s worth repairing. I assume it will be.
Sporting a GShock in the meantime. Which is fine, but I prefer the look and size of the Timex.

Timex Weekender and the almighty Casio F91-W are my most worn watches.

Can't beat a Casio F91-W. It was my go to watch for a year until I misplaced it during a move.

I was wearing my Seiko GMT and Seiko 5’s on rotation for a few months and then got a Garmin Instinct, haven’t taken it off since. I want to get one of those Daiso watches after I saw a post of one yesterday, it looks really nice for the price

They are practically new Seiko's for $10. Only thing is that they're only sold at the Daiso store's in Japan, as I was told by a Japanese watch collector. This watch keeps real good time and it's reliable. Only downside is it's not water resistant. But as long as you're not getting in a pool or a body of water with it, you should be good. I have read that someone did take one of these and modded it with a mechanical movement.

I rotate between a solar quartz, an automatic chronograph, and an automatic dive watch depending on my outfit and mood.
It’s easy to accumulate things so I keep my collection small.

My Tudor BB58 is my EDC watch, on Nato straps more often than not.
I am looking at getting a CWC Automatic Diver soon, as a more rugged watch for the outdoors, and then I will throw the BB58 back on the bracelet as an everyday watch.
