For context, there are 3 floors and 7 beds in their cage. One of which is a 3 layer bed 😶

But I suppose sisters must stick together!

[Ferret Photo] Clearly Loved Pets Pen Initial Thoughts

When I was looking for cage alternatives, I struggled to find any specific pictures or reviews that gave me confidence. I found a couple of mentions of clearly loved pets pens but never any pictures. I wanted to post this here in case anyone is hoping to upgrade from their critter/ferret nation.

My largest reason for this switch was because I am having surgery on my chest very soon and I will have limited mobility. I would have been unable to clean their old cage, given my limited range of motion.

I also really just wanted them to have more floor space and more places to snuggle up. They would use their hammocks on occasion but they much preferred blankets on the floor.

Another perk I have found in this setup is a complete 180 in litter box habits. My boys and girl regressed quite a bit over the last few months and were terrible at using their litter box. I have ZERO instances of going outside of the litter box with this new set up.

Finally, even though this pen is very expensive, it really changes the space. The ferrets seem happier when they are in their enclosure than before. They still love their free roam time, but I notice they seem much less restless now. I love how this looks and I am excited to find new ways to decorate. I chose this specific pen because it was the only one I could find that had very positive reviews for a variety of animals. I felt confident that my noodles would be safe in this pen. I can confirm that my little escape artists are secure in this thing.

For reference, this is the Clearly Loved Pets 36" Tall Medium Lucidium Pet Pen. I have it in the 2x6 formation.

Note: the dumbbells are temporary until I can find a different way to secure the litter boxes!

[Discussion] Male or female

Male: white Female:The other one, I don't have a picture of her face, but she looked very cute

Should I get the female or the male? The male is 4 months old and considerably bigger, the female is 3 months old and very small, both look adorable to me, but it would be my first ferret and I don't know if there are many differences between genders Both looked very playful, the female played with her siblings and the male with anything he could find.

[Discussion] Please adopt, not shop.

I know this topic has been discussed many times on this sub. I just feel like it’s worth stating again: PLEASE adopt, not shop if possible.

Every so often I check my local SPCA. Today, 8 noodles got dropped off and are up for adoption. EIGHT. They’re all named after characters from a show, so they clearly all came together. All of them with listed ages are only a year old.

Adoption fee for ferrets from my local SPCA is only $75. You could adopt all eight from the SPCA for a cheaper price than 2 from chain pet stores. (75x8=600. Price per ferret from petco: $400.) Obviously, medical bills in the US for eight ferrets can be insane, I’m sure that’s why they surrendered them to begin with. But if you can afford ferrets from chain pet stores, and can handle medical expenses, PLEASE check your local animal shelters first. Save yourself from getting scammed by these money-hungry, profit driven pet stores, and help find these surrendered ferrets a forever home.

[Rainbow Bridge] Final update on Maynard

Idk who still interested in this but, for the few that knew about maynard, I said she was doing better in the previous update. Well, she recently passed. I came home from school, I went to check on her, and she peacefully went in her sleep. It's been about Maybe three weeks since then, I believe. She looked happy and calm, which had made me feel better. Her cagemates were snuggled up next to her. Before I went to school I checked on her (and also to give her her pain meds), she was cold and trembling, so I assumed she passed maybe an hour after that. So all day she was in the cage with her siblings, and I think they got their time to say goodbye. But I do need advice. After I found her passed I went to tell my mom, and she got a shoebox to put her in, while she did that I wrapped her up in a blanket and took out the others to see if they would do anything to her. They both licked her a few times before going off to do other stuff, so I thought they had enough time to say goodbye, with that on top of being in the cage with her. I know ferrets need their time to mourn and if they don't get that chance they can stop eating and unfortunately maybe die themselves, which is what I wanna avoid. Kooi and Bobo have each other, so I feel like they aren't that sad, but I do notice that they both have become sluggish. I've been monitoring their eating and stuff, it's the same as always. But im not sure how to get them to play like they used to. I know they miss her, and I'm trying to make it as easy for them as possible. I've left her favorite toys and blankets out for them because of the scent, I've been giving them extra treats and cuddles. Do they just need more time? Or am I doing something wrong? I'm sorry if this makes no sense, it's late for me and I'm just crying crazy over this. I would appreciate any advice and tips on how to help them mourn.

[Discussion] Neutering for aggressive?

Post image
17 Upvotes

(Photo for ferret tax) I have two boys from the same litter at about one and a half years, I’ve booked them into a vets to talk about getting them both castrated due to aggression issues. Ozzie is still sweet, cuddly and doesn’t bite anyone or anything unless he’s playing gently or stashing, Eddie the minute I open the cage he’s jumping lunging and climbing up my clothes trying to bite me, it’s getting harder to get him out for enrichment due to this. I don’t have a secure garden so if I can’t pick him up then I have to have him on his harness but it’s hard to get it on him and even harder to get it off I can’t even scruff him at this point he’s too fast and he bites down hard, it takes me a good minute to get him back off. When it’s not rut time of year he’s absolutely lovely and the better behaved out of both of my boys I’m worried incase this is something more than just needing to be neutered? He’s separated from his brother at the moment due to biting him quite badly and because of how hard it is to handle him he’s getting less time out which I worry will make him worse, I also don’t want him to miss out on enrichment and days out. I’m speaking with the vets next week but has anyone else had this sort of behaviour change and had positive results with neutering? I don’t expect everything to magically change but I just want it to be easier for him and for him to have the best quality of life and to get him back living with his brother again

[Health] Fostering this little love but I'm new

This beauty was found outside with back leg weakness. The vet says no injuries and bloodwork is pending. She's on painkillers and I make her little back legs bicycle for pt twice a day. She's eating oxbow pellets but her stool is loose and she needs baths/ rinsing at least twice a day. (I have to admit- the cartoon farting/ pooping sound she makes is hysterical and I have to avoid embarrassing her) Despite this she's an absolute Darling. She's adventurous but fatigues quickly, she's snuffly and curious and about as friendly as I could hope for -were I in the market for another pet. I won't have her more than a couple of weeks so I don't have plans to switch her to a raw diet but I don't mind giving her treats if that's advised. She's safe, warm enough, watered, fed, medicated, played with, and has safe toys. If anyone has any advice I'm happy to take it.

[Discussion] Do all ferrets like chewing rubber?

I know my ferret does, she steals my shoes and takes anything stretchy/rubbery. Her favorite toy is a monkey doodle! I was just wondering if this was a quirk with mine, or just a common thing ferrets do?
