QUESTION Can You Guys Legit Check This For Me?

I just picked up this Epiphone Les Paul second hand on FB Market the other day, and I just want to know with some assurance that I got a good deal. I paid three-hundred and fifty for it. I believe the guy owned it since November, then sold it to me because he “had too many guitars” I don’t know, maybe someone can help me.

GEAR What do you think of these products? I know a regular guitar is superior for practicing. But I figured this is good for when I’m stuck at the office and I got nothing else to do but wait out the clock.

QUESTION Do frets have plating on them?

Post image

Just got this 'Ninety-eight American Standard Strat and the frets are wearing down in a way that's more like flaking. I'd thought fret wire was solid metal, is there sometimes plating on it? This just doesn't seem to be the smoother sort of wear I'm used to seeing. Color of the top layer is a little different too.

DISCUSSION What Has Happened to GC’s in-stock Inventory?!

I travel a lot for work, so naturally I’ve visited Guitar Centers in cities all across TX during my down time, and almost all of them have the same stuff- either guitars upwards of two thousand dollars, or Squires.

I was wanting to try out some of the new Schecter guitars that have came out within the last few years like the Reaper MS and the new PT Blackout seven string tele monster, but I can’t find anything that’s not a basic six string. Does GC just not do extended range stuff anymore?

Just picked up what I thought was a hummingbird in good condition. Unfortunately some of the frets don't sound right at all.

Any ideas what could cause this/how to fix?

NEWBIE Advice for learning to play like David Gilmour?

Hey everyone! I'm fairly new to guitar and I always try to build my fundamentals properly, I usually revisit the basics whenever I pick up something new.

I’ve been listening to David Gilmour for a couple of years now, and his playing really speaks to me. The emotion and phrasing in his solos are just on another level. Now that I’m getting more serious about guitar, I really want to learn how to play with that same kind of feel.

If anyone has tips on what to focus on first, bending, vibrato, phrasing, scales, exercises, or even specific songs, I’d really appreciate the advice. Thanks a lot!

QUESTION My "perfect" metal guitar

I am looking for a metal guitar, currently I own a Gibson Les Paul Studio which does great of what I want from it but now im looking for something stictly metal. I dont really care for pickups as they can be changed but what I need is the playability. I am looking for a double locking trem that stays in tune, twenty-four frets, a thin neck with a flat fingerboard (sixteen" radius) humbuckers at bridge and neck. My budget is 1k but on the used market so they can be more expensive new. Brands im looking at are either Ibanez, ltd schecter or charvel and Im looking for ones with great quality control(mij) any suggestions?

QUESTION How to balance volume using a high gain guitar and a low gain guitar on stage?

For context : going to be going on tour playing through someone else's mesa rectifier amp and it's probably going to be mic'd up. The two guitars I'm using will be a Jackson Dinky JStwentytwo and a Squier Classic Vibe Seventies Style Thinline Telecaster. Typically I'm running both guitars into a Fender Tonemaster Deluxe Reverb in Vibrato Channel two at volume seven, Treble five, Bass four (if any of that matters)

Just curious as to the best way to balance the volume on the two guitars without driving the sound guy insane. During our set, I start with the Jackson for four songs, switch to the Tele for three songs and then back to the Jackson for three songs. It seems like in order to get my desired tone on the Tele I have to turn up my OD and Distortions pedals to a point where the Jackson would be feeding back really badly. Sorry if this is a stupid question, just really want to get through this tour without deafening too many crowds and making enemies with too many sound guys.

QUESTION Low e and high e swap

In theory can I swap my high e on my acoustic with a low or will it damage the neck?

QUESTION [QUESTION] Getting a multi-effect pedalboard soon, does it go straight into an amplifier, another cable from the pedalboard into my guitar, and that’s it? I will be using it at home and transporting it to rehearsals, both locations just have a standard valve amplifier.

From my understanding it’s just the pedalboard, in this case a Boss GX-Onehundred plugged an amplifier with a jack cable, and then another cable from the pedalboard into my guitar and that’s it, right?

I’ve seen videos where people have at least three cables going and I’m wondering what’s going on. I haven’t received the pedalboard yet. Is there anything else I need or is that all?

DISCUSSION New keyboardist shows up with an electric guitar…

So our new keyboardist showed up to practice with an electric guitar, pedal and amp and said he was playing guitar for one of the songs we're performing. He never asked anyone in the band.

This might belong on AITA, but what's the normal reaction for this?

GEAR The Perfect Pick Exists

Post image
79 Upvotes

Seems like I finally found it! After using everything, including Blue Chips, I started using the green tortexes, learned about how a thicker pick can impact playing, gave the new reissue Adamas Graphite picks a try (which are essentially plastic with barely any graphite compared to originals Jerry played), those were great but slippery, even with Picker’s Grip applied, went back to green tortexes, cuz that material has amazing grip, then was recommended the thickest Gator Grips, pick nirvanna. The black Gator Grips have the best of both worlds, the thickness and control of the Adamas, and the feel of Tortex, in a slightly smaller shape, amazing picks. Two mm is the way with Gator’s.
