Looking for amp recommendations? Start here!

If you'd like help finding an amp, we need a few details on what exactly you want out of your new amplifier. Bass amp help is welcome too!

Country/Region

It's a great help to know where you are located, some amp brands may be more expensive. Amp brands from one continent tend to be more expensive in another because of shipping, and vice versa. No need to get too specific and dox yourself.

Budget

How much are you looking to spend? Do you wanna buy a used amp, or brand new?

Genre/Style

What are you going to use the amp for? Does it need a clean channel and/or high gain?

Volume & Size Requirement

Let us know if you're trying not to bother neighbours, if you're trying to keep up with a heavy hitting drummer, or if you need the flexbility to do both! Also include if you'd prefer combo vs head & cab, if you can only haul a 1x12 or if you're trying to crank a full stack, etc.

Feel free to include other details like if you need the amp to have built in fx, digital vs solid state vs tube vs hybrid amp, whatever else will help us find you the right amp!

My Peavey is practically dying on me so I'm looking for something else that won't make me cry when opening my wallet (which happens quite quickly) Is it any good for the cheap altrock/metalplayer? What cabinet is recommended?

Thank you guys in advance!

Good guitar, weak amp

I need your help. I am thinking of buying a small valve amp that would sound good at low volumes (I live in a flat with rather thin walls) but at the same time wouldn't sound boxy. I am sick of the Cube, it's solid state and I stopped using it completely. I prefer playing through Zoom and 5.1 speakers which also is suboptimal buy in a different way. I play mostly rock, post-rock and funk. Any ideas which valve amp checks these boxes?

Amp sounds terrible at practice

I recently played with other people for the first time in a really long time and forgot how different rigs sound in different spaces. Everything sounds totally perfect at home at low volumes in my small Space….but in someone elses big basement if i were blindfolded i wouldnt have even recognized that it was my rig. It sounded terrible and was hard to hear myself or mix with the others.

Will also add that i forgot how much harder it is to mix reverb and delay at band practice

Any advice on how to get the best band mix in a large basement without being mic’d and having a PA?

Traded in a few guitars and my SF Bassman 50. Absolutely love the way this amp breaks up and the cleans are so nice. I will eventually need to find a bassman 10 tho... I already miss my bassman.

HELP The better amp? A Vox AV15 or a Vox AD30VT.

I’m looking for a better amp, and I have a choice between a Vox AV15 for $80, and an AD30VT for $130, as far as I know they’re both tube amps. I’m not really aiming for any tone, just looking for a better sounding amp than the one I have right now. Thanks.

Im replacing the preamp tubes and was wondering what the silver thing is on the left next to the preamp tubes? I’ve never owned a tube amp so I’m not sure! I know there are supposed to be three preamp tubes so is that another preamp tube?

Looking to get an electric to make use of these and go along with my acoustic. Is it bad to use them with an open back? Don’t know lickity split about amps or any of the electric guitar gear.

DISCUSSION I don’t need another Amp but at this price on a Mesa Maverick do I have to?

This Mesa/Boogie Maverick Dual Rectifier just popped up locally asking $550 and it looks to be in pretty great condition. I’ve been really happy with my setup currently but now I’ve gone down the rabbit hole on it and am digging the sound. Anyone have a good take on the Mesa Maverick Dual Rectifier? Do I have to buy it?

Are either of these worth grabbing, assuming the work properly?

They're going for 25$ each

How should I connect this amp

Randall RX120RH and a 4x12. I bought this amp and cab recently and the previous owner had connected this a bit wrong (I think). There were two cables connected and the switch to mono. I think it would be enough with just one cable right? I’ve only been playing combos until this point and have no clue how I should connect this.

Any idea what’s wrong with my amp?

Been having this issue for a while now and can’t seem to figure out the problem. I thought it was the tubes, so I replaced them, but I still get the same strange noises happening every ~ minute or so. There are electronics and a guitar plugged into the amp in this video, but I can confirm these noises happen even when nothing is plugged into the amp. I have no idea what it could be and any help would be so greatly appreciated. The amp is a Fender Blues Jr. IV that I bought off of Facebook marketplace.

Trying to repair cheap amp jeadphone jack

Hey, not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I bought some 3/8 inch socket nuts to fix this small amps jacks, and they fit for the input jack on the left, but the headphone jack to the right is quite larger because of the plastic encasing around it. Does anyone have any idea what size that would be?

HELP Amp distorting at low volumes

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

My amp is distorting at even low volumes. All the tubes were changed a few years ago and I haven’t used it much since. I just swapped one preamp tube because it seemed suspect but it didn’t make the noise and distortion go away.

Suggestions would be appreciated and I understand it’s hard to diagnose based off a video, so be nice.

DSL20HR - what sort of volume do we mean when we say it needs to be turned up to avoid fizziness?

Pretty much as the title says - I've got a 1x12 cab at the moment with a 25w celestion greenback in it and I fancied getting something a bit more metal-capable without pedals than the Blackstar HT-5R I have does.

I really like the look of this thing, but there's a lot of comments of it needing to be a bit too loud to be considered "bedroom volume" capable - which is fine as I want it for when I can be loud(er). But curious how loud that actually is? For me if I'm getting to 85db according to a phone app I have that's "have to shut the door to not annoy the wife too much" volume.

I did like the look of the Super Crush 100 but I assume 100w through a 25w speaker is Very Bad Idea. The Katana Head also appeals but I'd have to run it in 0.5w mode as far as I can tell. So I'm curious how suitable this thing would be for me.

Squier Champ 15G loose wires - need help putting them back in place

Post image

Model:  Squier Champ 15G
Type:  PR CPR1
Made in Korea

I received this amp in this condition where the spades/wires were just flopping around - not connected so I have nothing to go off of. What I am trying to figure out is where to connect these spade connectors.  I think 4 of them go to the power switch and 2 go to the ends of fuse.  I have connected all 6 but it is just a guess where they go based on the shape of the wires which gives a hint where they might go but that is all it is - a guess.  I'm trying to figure out where these spade connectors actually go.  Any help would be appreciated.

The yellow arrows show the 6 spades already connected to my ill-informed guess as to where they should go - 4 to the power switch and 2 to the fuse.
