What would you call my style?

Most of my furniture and decor is thrifted/second-hand / found on the side of the road/refurbished. Sometimes I worry it just looks like a dorm room exploded.

Is this entryway table and decor too distracting?

Is this entryway table and decor too distracting upon walking in the front door? I want the focal point when walking in to be the living room, so is it too distracting?

One pro to having it there is that it zones off the entryway a bit and allows a more designated space to help remind guests to take off their shoes. I’m just not sure if it blocks guests from naturally being visually drawn to the living area?

I do love the way it looks once inside our living area, and facing the table (2nd photo). Just not sure I love it from the view of the front door!

Thoughts?

Okay so I’m getting my bathroom redone. It’s not finished yet but I think my contractor cut . my surround messed up. I’m including pictures. Okay so the first pic is of one side and it lines up with the tub the surround is laying perfectly on the tub. The second pic is just to see that the cut is uneven. And the last pics are the other side of the surround as you can see it literally does not lay flat on the tub at all.

I honestly feel like he just made a mistake and measure wrong or something idk. But everyone is saying that it will look better when done etc it’s already glued into the wall…. Like I don’t what else needs to be done . Also some of my family is saying the tub will be brought up but the tub is already in place and that was the first thing he did.

If I’m wrong I will admit . And apologize but I don’t see how this can be fixed without literally getting more Surrond and cutting again.

I feel like everyone is not listening to me . My ocd is so bad with this I literally can not have it not touching the tub. And if there’s going to be a whole bunch of caulk to fill it that’s disgusting.

Do people still decorate with holiday tchotchkes?

Post image

A close friend went shopping at a discount department store and bought this Easter salt and pepper set for me. I only really decorate for the autumn/winter holidays, so I think I'll give it a home in my garden - at least this spring. But it brought me to the question of decorating with tchotchkes. Do people really still use things like this? I'm kind of a minimalist and would rather chew off my arm than switch out my salt and pepper shakers, so is it just my mindset?

How would I minimize light leakage from the top and sides of my blackout curtains?

Post image
15 Upvotes

I realize they're too short. I will be buying new ones that go to the ground.

However it still feels like the sides and top leak a lot of light in.

There is popcorn texture on the ceiling so the curtains can't go all the way to the top. Behind the curtain are vertical blinds and valence for those vertical blinds.

And I can't have the bar toward the window closer because otherwise the curtains rub against the valence behind it or the blinds themselves.

I am not allowed to remove the vertical blinds nor cover the window in film.

Suggestions? Should I not be using curtains with grommets or something?

How bad is the millennial gray vibe? I personally quite like it and find it cozy, I was never one for too much color and leaned towards minimalism. Some accents still missing (art, rug), so mostly asking about the bare bones of the place.

Any solid free interior design courses or tutorials out there? Basics, colors, ergonomics, etc?

I've been trying to compile a list of genuinely free interior design tutorials & courses that are somewhat structured and cover the basics like layout, color theory, furniture placement, etc.

Surprisingly, it’s been harder than I expected to find structured tutorials that are 100% free. I figured I'd stumble upon a ton of them, but nope.

This is what I have so far:

  • Homestyler’s tutorial page – kind of tool-focused but still has useful stuff (link)
  • Planner5D’s interior design school – pretty structured and well put together (link)
  • A YouTube playlist from D.Signers with logical structure, tips and design breakdowns (link)

Can anyone suggest something good that’s actually free? Not just a teaser for a paid course?

Ideas for decorating/disguising this prominent PVC pipe?

Thumbnail

Had an unfortunate plumbing issue that resulted in this less-than-ideal pipe running through our basement (had to be done this way due to elevation and the placement of the main stack, we really wished there was another way 😭)

The panels will be painted white next weekend. Any ideas about color, styling (making it look vintage-y) or ways to ‘cover’ it without adding even more bulk to the wall?

I know it’s bad, plz be nice lol

Which door and doorknob combo would you recommend for a builder grade home update?

We are trying to add some character to our builder grade home. What is your opinion on the following door and doorknob options? We are looking at white doors/trim and antique brass fixtures. I see so much advice that says your decor should match the style of your home, which completely confuses me because our home has no "style."

I recently tidied up and added lights to my outdoor seating area. I have a cute little setup going on but the back wall is plain and i’m wondering what i can do to make it prettier and more cozy/welcoming. I was thinking maybe something green and planty.

Living room layout suggestions

Thumbnail

A year ago I downsized to an 1100 square foot townhome. Since moving in I haven’t been in love with this space. It needs better anchoring and symmetry while still being functional. I’d love any layout suggestions. My pieces are large for the space but I don’t plan on changing much other than removing the ottoman or coffee table from the space, and mounting the TV (wherever it ends up). The room is divided in half by a seven inch square beam and the door leads to a back patio.

Total Living room: 15’6”x10’ Couch: 94”x42” Ottoman: 39”x39” China Cabinet: 36”x17” Mirror: 55”x65” Rug: 7’x10’

A white for warm and cool?

Ok so l'm doing an interior, been going crazy trying to find the right muted soft white for walls. Very hard because it's west facing sunlight and warm stone floor color yet the decor is grey silver black white and blue and a lot of the furniture is mirror. The client has cloud cover BM that was lightened by 50% and she's right it looks dingy and dirty but cloud cover also seems to be the only color that's not too warm or too cool, advice? And is it true bad idea to order paint and ask for them to lighten it by a percentage. I'm wondering if she got a bad store that poorly did it.

Hallway ideas?

Thinking about how this stale wall in entry hallway could be elevated, while maintaining the minimalistic tone of the whole space. I thought about acoustic panels like in the last picture, but open for any ideas/thoughts on this!
