For all MAGA cries about free speech they never have a thing to say whenever he threatens to jail his enemies, open libel laws or goes after the media

They complain about free speech when liberals are in power because it is according to liberal principles. They take away free speech when they are in power because it is according to their principles

God damnit I really didn’t want to live in a Frank Herbert future, this fucking sucks.

Learned recently Herbert had a pretty nuanced view of power.

Most people just say power corrupts and leave it at that.

Herbert made a point to say power absolutely corrupts those that seek it.

I think that's in part because the greedier you are, the more you will be willing to sacrifice morals and ethics.

Power isn't inherently dangerous or corrupting but rather amplifies what is in the heart of the wielder.

If people with dirty little heart's get power we're all in trouble...oh wait...

If Elon turned into a sand trout we’d all be better off

He's turning into some kind of trout.

Idk it took about 3500 years for that to pay off for humanity, and that humanoid sand trout had good intentions

Do not do a Jihad, don’t do it. Paul tried to warn us

Hence the (only kind of a) joke that anyone capable of getting themselves elected president should under no circumstances be allowed to do the job.

"Power corrupts and absolute power corrupts absolutely"

We've seen people in positions of power do great things and terrible things, so clearly this isn't true. The true adage should be go something like this

"Power reveals who you are"

"All governments suffer a recurring problem: Power attracts pathological personalities. It is not that power corrupts but that it is magnetic to the corruptible."

Frank Herbert, Chapterhouse: Dune

Yeah i was told by successful relatives that power is corrupting, and ive spent my life to try to avoid that. Its sad when people go around claiming that as absolute, because it denies the possibility to overcome.

power absolutely corrupts those that seek it.

Never heard it like this, but i think its an accurate and important distinction.

rather amplifies what is in the heart of the wielder.

Having said that, i think this statement is also not correct. With power comes a certain host of conditions that have a corrupting nature, e.g. the existence of sycophants and consequences of entering into the games of politics and power. Its not correct to say that good people dont become corrupt.

It’s not even complaining about free speech because government will do anything, it’s the horror of some blue haired weirdo scolding them or someone pushing back on their nonsense that these MAGA’s fear

The point is to make people hate free speech so they can erode it. Go start a website anywhere that accepts user content and come back in a week, it will be mostly CSAM, Nazi propaganda and ads for drugs.
