I built a predictions site for combat sports

Post image
16 Upvotes

Like many, I was looking for a creative outlet outside of work that combined skill and passion which led me to building https://mmapickems.com

How it works: - It's free, no money exchanged on the platform, - Make predictions for upcoming bouts, - Compete on a global leaderboard with other fans, - The fan with the best predictions reigns as the champion and wins the belt, - The site includes Glory, One (Amazon Prime only), UFC, and major boxing events.

Hope to see you on the leaderboard for Glory 99!

Please let me know if you have questions or feedback.

Gear Would the fairtex sp5 or sp7 be the better choice long term?

I’ve been considering the sp7s (about 80ish USD where I’m at) because the detachable foot makes cram more easily in my bag but I hear that you can never go wrong with the sp5s (about 70 USD here) and they’re much easier to find here too. Which would be the better option?

Gear Choosing kickboxing/muay thai gloves and shin guards

Hello everyone, I’ve recently been doing some research on what type of gloves and shinguards (mainly gloves!) I should upgrade to. My main options as of now would be either Fairtex or Combat Corner (CRNR).

When I asked my Coach what brands he recommended he asked me if I was more of a kickboxer or a Muay Thai martial artist. I would say I really like the boxing aspect of kickboxing but I do like the stance of Muay Thai. He mentioned that if I was more of a kickboxer then CRNR would be a good way to go, and for Muay Thai Fairtex.

I was either looking at the HMIT Boxing gloves from Combat corner, or the BGV1 Tight fit gloves from fairtex. I’ve had a pair of rdx gloves (16oz) for a while now and I will say that I dislike how thick and bulky they feel, at times it feels like my hands are moving in slow motion. I’ve heard that CRNR gloves tend to be bulkier than fairtex but I am not sure how different they are.

My birthday is coming up soon and I’m looking to get myself a nice pair of gloves and shinguards. I am mainly here hoping to get some advice on which way to go (CRNR or Fairtex) but I am also open to looking into other brands you guys recommend.

Things to note:

I have small - medium sized hands They must be 16oz I don’t want them to feel the same as my rdx pair

Thanks for the help.

Training Are calf kicks that Alex Pereira constantly throws allowed in kickboxing?

So I watched some slowed down footage and he actually kicks with the inside of his foot/ankle almost, instead of the fibula (calf bone). Is this even allowed in kickboxing? Would love to try it in sparring but I don't wanna do something thats not really allowed.

GIMNASIOS MMA CABA

Getting back to training

I got a big injury in my left leg and right arm 2 days apart and had been out for about 3 weeks. This was my first training after that and felt I lost my feel on punching and kicking. Also I felt I forgot how to hold my guard up😅. What’s the best way to get back in shape ; maybe running and shadow boxing? Also please give me some advice about my tehnique , even if I had been out for 3 weeks and didn’t really felt the best way any advice is welcomed! I have been training for about a year and 2 months and about to have my 3rd match in one month. Any advice about anything from preparing mentally , diet , training etc will help a lot!

Do yall throw inside calf kicks?

Whenever I spar people in my gym or when other gyms come down and spar, I feel like I'm the only one who throws the inside calf kick. I understand it's easy to check so people throw the regular inside leg kick instead, but I'm not even kidding when I say I think I haven't seen anyone throw one in months.

Do yall throw inside calf kicks, or am I just weird lol
