Review Realforce shopping in Japan

Upvotes

Just got back from a few weeks in Japan and (un)fortunately remembered that I finally had a chance to get my hands on a real Realforce, having used and enjoyed a Niz x87 for many years.

tl;dr picked up an R3HH11 for £160 (GBPJPY~=194 when I was there) which obviously a silly amount to spend on a keyboard but first impressions are good.

By far the best Realforce selection I found was in Ginza Bic Camera ( having been to 3 other Bics, 2 Yodabashis inc. Akihabara and a few other shops. Pic is from Bic Fukuoka) and having resisted the temptation for 3 weeks I finally cracked and "invested".

In terms of the keeb the styling is definitely dated compared to the latest offerings from elsewhere and it's just quite large compared to my x87 and the keychron I've been trialling. Having said that it's heavy and the materials, keycaps and power button feel premium. The metallic grey with dark grey keycaps is quite subtle which I like although I can see the lack of contrast between caps and printing being a problem for non-touch typists in low light.

Something I don't see a lot of copy dedicated to is the useability/housekeeping functions. I'd say this is where it shines vs the x87. The function keys work ootb as you'd expect and can be switched via a press of the power button between casual mode (i.e. operating as Mac special keys) and pro mode (i.e. operating as function keys). The BT connection is easy to configure, easy to switch, low latency etc. One omission is the lack of a rechargable battery which I do like about the x87 but at the Realforce at least lets you check charge by pressing fn + F10 which is pretty straightforward.

And the switch feel? Like a Niz but better - smoother, more thock and no rattly stabs. If you know, you know...

Any other questions do let me know. H

Custom, in the shape of a bone, got my oshi on it. The layout totally sucks but ehh, it looks cool! Gat jade yellows, KBDIY snow mountain caps. the matrix is 6 by 10 so it's a real mess, but you wouldn't know by looking at it X3 The switches are actually really good esp. for how cheap they are, would recommend.

I've posted this to r/olkb already but thought the wider mk group would like this. Thanks to the MechWild pillbug and a hack-job attempt at writing a ZMK shield, I've made a wireless Cantor split. I've got some work still to do on the settings, but happy with it so far!

Builds Got my Keychron Q6! Finally entering the world of custom keyboards

Post image

After finally leaving my 7 years old razer blackwidow I finally found a keyboard that meet almost all my requirements. I know it's just a start since it's prebuilt (I did swap keycaps), but I can finally have fun with modding! Tho I'm quite limited with keycaps because of my layout...

I also had fun flashing Vial on the keyboard and programmed my own Artemis plugin to control the leds with my pc.

Infos:

  • Keychron Q6 ISO
  • Gateron G Pro Brown switches
  • Keychron Gray White Mint keycaps

Discussion My first time using lumekeebs and i fear that i am being scammed

I made a purchase on the 27th of March from u/lumekeebs, and my card was charged for the correct amount in my order

First of all its been 10 days and my order has not been shipped and then i check my account and see that lume keebs attempted to charge my card twice for the amount of 100.48 usd after my initial charge of 88.45 was completed and money debited from my account.Forutnately for me it was not successful because if i am not using my card i freeze them. i have sent an email but no response from Lumekeebs and no response from them on instagram dm as well.

Looking for a color green key cap that would go nicely. Does anyone know if the fox set would match nicely to the qwertykeys pt750 in celadon green?

Posted my project keyboard a bit ago heres the sound test for it. Need to unfortunatly modify some screws to make the external weight fit but I don't think it should change the sound to not have it installed yet.

boop redux 65% by biip in E white built with cherry nixies (L/F/SS) on a PC plate in top mount configuration topped with GMK Dandy R2, which was in GB hell after space cables went under but I finally have them almost a year later thanks to Omnitype saving the day 💚

i was trying something new with some golden hour sunset lighting for really long shadows. made the colors look a little weird but i’m happy enough with them :)
