Me knowing my impatient ass with mediocre bow skills will get wrecked before reaching high rank

…yo make me scared. 😱 I was going to do a first time hunt using bow only playthrough.

Not allowing myself to comfort pick my main…. Will bow be that much harder than melee weapons!?

Discerning Dodge is one of the most broken thing they added to Wild. Bow's gonna be more than fine.

u/lazyicedragon Feb 25 '25

it's like all you need now is Constitution now with how much Stamina a Discerning Dodge restores. It will only get crazier with more aggressive monsters as well as that only means more Stamina gain. With the new coating system though maybe Close-Range coats and Enhanced Close-Range coats won't be in game any more, but imagine if it was with what Discerning Dodge is. Doesn't even matter if it's not infinite now.

u/[deleted] Feb 26 '25

Enhanced close range coat? What that?

4

u/lazyicedragon Feb 26 '25

some bows in Sunbreak has Close Range Coating+ which makes their raw damage a bit closer to Power Coat. In Master Rank Power Coat is probably be better, but some monsters are better killed with C.Range+ since their usual attacks can put you really close to them, making Power Coating a little less useful due to losing Critical Distance. Unless you're really accurate and almost speed-runner level that is.

For Wilds, earlier monsters kinda have pretty small range on attacks except maybe Arkveld, so C.Range+ will see better mileage with Discerning Dodge earlier on. C.Coats were also infinite back then so you apply them once and that's it, shotgun everything with your bow. But maybe I'm just spouting shit at this point. It's honestly all exciting to me that I decided not to use Bow too much after feeling it in the beta, I just need to know the new controls and if it was more Sunbreak or Iceborne (both, kind of both).

Iceborne and Sunbreak both sort of revolve around dodging regardless of P.Dodge or not (for Sunbreak with a specific Switch Skill, P.Dodge is mandatory) and that takes a toll on stamina. Constitution 4 and Stamina Surge (or Dash Juice) is almost mandatory for a good time on Bow. Having Stamina gain on p.dodge while also giving +2 (or max, beta bow only seems to have Charge 3. We won't know until Master rank probably) charge makes it the most nuttiest version of the bow to a bow veteran. That can drop two armor skills altogether and you just.....roll with anything and everything really. Constitution likely still going to be good for building up charges but Discerning Dodge is really just so strong. I thought infinite P.Coats was good enough to start with the Bow this time but seeing that stamina gain on Discerning Dodge? ugh spare me, I can only contain so much excitement. Just the thought of being able to slap anything for armor skills is making me salivate.

I didn’t check in the beta but are we getting gyro aiming again?

2

u/sdrmme Feb 25 '25

If you're playing on PC, you can configure gyro aiming for dual shock and switch remotes.

4

u/mvanvrancken Feb 25 '25

Nope, PS5 this time. Though I might double dip on PC when I upgrade my GPU, I’m working with a 1070 right now so not exactly current

2

u/Nightspark115 Feb 25 '25

That being said also conside a cpu upgrade too if you don't have atlease a Intel 12th gen or ryzen 2nd gen. the gpu is the work house while the cpu is the support

3

u/mvanvrancken Feb 25 '25

Yeah I’m gonna probably have to build a new machine for this eventually. I have a 6700K in this one because it’s a music production PC primarily. I got loads of RAM though!

2

u/DeltaDarkwood Feb 25 '25

Bow about LBG? I really liked it in World but it seemed a bit underpowered in World (but I'm a noob).

2

u/MaxinRudy Feb 25 '25

With no experience in bow, It Will probably be the most broken weapon, again

2

u/Noocta Feb 25 '25

If they didn't touch anything after the beta, I would agree 100%. But now, it's gonna depend how much they nerfed Tracer arrow I think.

I don't see this version of Bow being less than S tier no matter what they do though.

1

u/BrokenHaloSC0 Feb 25 '25

Mechanics can't fix skill issues

48

u/Additional_Bit1707 Feb 25 '25

Ranged weapons are speed run weapons, both for the hunters and the monsters.

1

u/Frozenpucks Mar 03 '25

There's just no downtime anymore.

28

u/Recodes Feb 25 '25

Believe in yourself dude. You got this.

11

u/Hairyponch0 Feb 25 '25

Trying my best not to just go hammer like I always do. I'd like to use a sword for tails and bow

7

u/Billy_droptables Feb 25 '25

As a fellow hammer bro I'm probably gonna go through story with a hammer and then farm with other weapons. I really like the hammer changes in Wilds and am looking forward to playing with them.

7

u/Hairyponch0 Feb 25 '25

That's my problem. I love the hammer In wilds.

2

u/Matasa89 Feb 25 '25

It's hard not to love the spin to win.

2

u/MafubaBuu Feb 25 '25

I see all the other weapon videos and all I can ask is "But does it go BONK?"

1

u/kelnira Mar 03 '25

Bonk. Bonk. Bonk. Bonk........ BAPBAP BASH.

2

u/SlickSnorlax Feb 25 '25

For a sword, the transition from Hammer to Greatsword shouldn't be too difficult.

21

u/Want2bfrst Feb 25 '25

Bow is extremely overpowered (sub 5 arkveld lmao), and even after the nerfs it will be WAY more than fine, enjoy your weapon hunter. :)

15

u/ItsNotJulius FirstFleetReject Feb 25 '25

Bow has been on the rise since MH4U.

I suspect there is a bow main in the dev team who keeps overtuning it every generation. Maining it is SO fun.

3

u/TsumaniSeru Feb 25 '25

Lets go!!!!!!!!!!! ;-; ill try not to be scared of dying my only confidence is thousands of hours of HH

2

u/Niceromancer Feb 25 '25

Bow is so easy you basically need a pulse to use it.

1

u/New-Situation-5773 Feb 25 '25

Honestly, long as you put in time learning the weapons you'll do fine. Won't say the game is easy buuuuuuut if it were then it wouldn't be fun or as memorable

1

u/Rancor5897 Feb 25 '25

Even the game director said that they don't want you to only use one weapon for every monster. You will probably struggle

2

u/Frozenpucks Mar 03 '25

Yea you should basically always have some melee and ranged on hand, that's the feeling i get so far.

1

u/XaresPL Feb 25 '25

no, it will only be considerably harder if u just dont vibe with it.

1

u/Tencent-Employee1249 Feb 25 '25

No he just means he is bad lol

1

u/iama_username_ama Feb 25 '25

I switched from melle to bow for Rise a f had a lot of fun before try longsword for sun break.

New game, new weapon is the best strat.

Then, eventually go back to charge blade

1

u/projectwar Zoh Shia wpns OP https://youtu.be/x_gXDVf8mwo Feb 25 '25

Bows fine, but tracer got giga nerfed. the dodge will hard carry you.

1

u/Matasa89 Feb 25 '25

Once you get it, you will be unstoppable.

1

u/JMR027 Feb 25 '25

Bow is broken and way easier to use now

1

u/HashcoinShitstorm Feb 25 '25

But hammer spin for the win

1

u/metalflygon08 Feb 25 '25

I like to main a ranged and a close combat weapon, was gonna try Bow instead of HBG this time.

1

u/m4r00o Feb 26 '25

Ranged weapons are meant to be easier so it probably won’t be harder than any melee weapons. Overall game difficulty isn’t that high tho.

1

u/capable-corgi Feb 26 '25

Just don't trip cause our armor are just paper replicas 😢 (not sure if ranged weapons still get armor penalties in wilds)

1

u/Nox_Dei Feb 26 '25

I never really got into ranged weapons. I tired repeatedly since the psp era but it never clicked.

For the first time ever since then, playing the Wilds demo, I had genuine fun playing a ranged weapon: that bow felt pretty good to shoot.

1

u/itzBilly13 Feb 27 '25

Bow was actually kinda OP in the beta. I watched a video on YouTube, and bow was the fastest weapon to kill Archveld.

3

u/neginafan Feb 25 '25

Bro let's go I'm doing a first time ever bow playthrough as a gs main

1

u/CT-96 Feb 25 '25

I mean, even Rurikhan said he carted in LR. There are a TON of variables for difficulty in a game like this.

1

u/Syphin33 Feb 25 '25

You're not gonna have any issues

1

u/AgeStill7701 Feb 25 '25

Bow is best imo, I almost exclusively use a bow, unless I really need tails

1

u/Mautadolo Feb 25 '25

Dont worry with the bow i beat arkveld in the beta easy bow is rly strong this time

1

u/accidental_tourist Feb 25 '25

Meh I'm a vet, should be fine. Proceeds to die to chatacabra in the beta.

1

u/lolifeetsniffer Feb 25 '25

Not you being worst than journalists😭

1

u/ThrowDatJunkAwayYo Feb 25 '25

As someone who got wrecked by Arkveld in the beta… some how I don’t think that the game “not being difficult enough” is going to be an issue for me.

Also apparently the same people were complaining that World was easy?! Man that was NOT my experience at all - I got hard stopped at multiple points in World even in the early levels (Anj, rath, kirin, diablos etc)

1

u/mudshake7 Feb 27 '25

Even the noobest of the noob reviewer claimed that this game is so easy they never failed a hunt by just carting. Don't worry, I think you're good.
