It's usually not that bad, but around the time of a new game's release, it can do no wrong.
All flaws are ignored and concerns are brushed aside.
And then a few months later, when the game isn't as fresh, the opposite happens.
By the next year, conversation tends to mellow out into a middle-ground

Anyways. I hope you will give the game a shot at some point and not let a bunch of babies on reddit convince you not to, since it is shaping up to be a great game. That said, I completely understand getting turned off a game by its community, especially in a multiplayer-focused franchise.
(Though, I will say the in-game community is nice, friendly and ALWAYS better than the MH community on other sites)

I bought wilds as a first time MH player and the game has been easy so far but I bought it because I like boss fighting in games and was hoping for a hardcore souls-esque experience, which it somewhat provides in terms of boss fights but no difficulty so far , does the game have an actual end game or is it a Diablo 2 and dark souls thing where players grind for the sake of grinding because they love the game? I'm on the fence in terms of how I feel about Wilds, I really like the combat and it feels very slick but I was hoping for an actual end game, do these games typically have an end game made by the devs or is it just passionate players grinding for the sake of grinding? That's the one thing that annoyed me about fromsoft souls games is there was no actual end game beyond doing different runs.

Mind you, I'm in no way comparing souls games to MH games, I simply became interested in MH because of it's supposed difficulty, but it seems like that doesn't come until the expansions?

Tldr;does MH have actual end game or is it player made?

I can't speak to Wilds since I haven't reached endgame yet, and I'm not sure what you mean by "actual endgame" but I'll say what there usually is in MH games and what I've heard about Wilds:

Usually there's some buffed versions of monsters (called Tempered Monsters in World/Wilds) towards the end of high rank and after the final boss. They have drop rarer decorations, their parts can usually make really good armor and there's some sort of endgame weapon system tied to it in Wilds.
That said, it is sorta Diablo 3 or Borderlands where endgame is grinding to get the final upgrades to perfect your build

The other factor of endgame are the Title Updates which will add new monsters and sometimes new features, which usually shake up the meta and give the players new things to chase.
And they confirmed the first update will have stuff harder than anything in the base game

But yeah, the endgame is super grindy and pretty much about minmaxing your builds in my experience.
Hope that helped
