MH Wilds Now that Shockproof is a skill

I better see every one of you longsword weebs sloting this on your build. No more "just slot flinch free bro". Slot this level 1 deco and you can no longer flinch your teammates with that 8 foot flagpole of a weapon.

For every longsword main I catch not using this skill I will eat 1 baby Seikret for dinner. No exceptions.

I use it on GL so I can wyvern fire without a care in the world

u/mikehit Mar 05 '25

Oh, ist WF flinching? I was shooting it in without a second thought... pore people.

u/Zirkalaritz Mar 05 '25

The true Gunlance main experience... stared at so many explosions we have burned retinas and we don't see the hunters flying from the Wyvernfire. We are deaf from the booms also, so we never heard their cries. 😭

u/GhostDieM Mar 05 '25

WHAT? WHO'S FLYING?!

120

u/Tomezzi96 Mar 05 '25

THE RATHALOS! SHOOT A FLASH POD!

26

u/Lanko Mar 05 '25

Me and my kinsect! We're flying through the air!
Wheee! Bop!
Wheee! Bop!
Wheee! bop!
Wheee!.... oh crap!

u/honato Mar 05 '25

How is the glaive in wilds? Haven't gone experimenting with a lot of the weapons yet.

8

u/Lanko Mar 05 '25

Honestly its a lot of fun. I had heard people complaining about it during the beta so i avoided it assuming it was bad, but nope its actually a lot of fun. Landing a focus strike gives you all your nectar, landing healing nectar seems easier. They removed the ability to spam homing attacks with your kinsect to collect nectar. You can still spam the kinsect, but it doesnt home so you need to aim. Its harder to collect the nectar you need, but overall id argue thats an improvement.

Also, its satisfying AF to land a focus attack when mid vault over the monsters head.

2

u/SoupRyze Mar 05 '25

You can collect nectar if you're in focus mode doing attacks (doesn't have to be a focus strike) onto whatever part you need. I've been tilting my gyro controller like I'm playing Need for Speed or something to aim my attacks as I zoom through the air, honestly it's been a lot of fun since it's a much more active way of getting nectar than actually aiming and firing your slow bug.

0

u/Lanko Mar 05 '25

Yes, but in the old games, you could do this without aiming.

3

u/SoupRyze Mar 05 '25

Well.

The future is here old man 😎👍

u/brokenskullzero Mar 05 '25

Honestly having assist kinsect improves the feel of the ground combos immensely, and having it also still work with no essense does make you feel like you have more synergy with the bug compared to how assist worked in rise

That on top of Charged Harvest being able to pierce and grab 3 essenses does change up your approaches

you from the side get its Head and wing for only 1 red and 2 whites, well you can just focus foward stab and get an orange and contine to ground blend

Aiming straight down a monster and it got all 3 in one go? Noice now time to blend

Did someone say nectar?

1

u/SnarKenneth Mar 05 '25

I was more concerned that they took out the air mobility from it. In world, I was a fucking helicopter of pain and spent a lot of time mastering it to kill monsters as early as 5-10 minutes (with about half that time being just in the air), but I avoided it because I heard they removed the ability to stay in the air.

1

u/SoupRyze Mar 05 '25

With 3 nectars collected (or maybe just the 3rd one?) you can definitely perma stay in the air.

1

u/Lunafeather Mar 06 '25

Apparently they removed the bouncing in the betas, but it seems like enough people bitched about it that the bouncing absolutely exists in the final game, although I've never played another MH game before so I'm not sure if the bouncing is different? You can bounce as long as you have the stamina for it.

1

u/main135s Mar 05 '25

My only complaint is that they flip-flopped the inputs for advancing and descending attacks in the air with no way (that I have found) to optionally swap it back.

I get that it's for usability on controller but I would much rather have descending be on M1 and advancing be on M2, how it was the last two games.

2

u/Lanko Mar 05 '25

Omg! I thought it was just me! Muscle memory has me constantly mixing up my swings! I thought i was just dumb!

1

u/main135s Mar 05 '25 edited Mar 05 '25

Yeah, it's not you, it's entirely the game!

With the new charged descending attacks, they made it so that the button you hold for them (B/Circle) is the one with the easiest access to both A/X and Y/Triangle.

I get why they did it and the advantages it has for PC, since you can carry the charge between the ground and vaulting into the air, they don't want to change which button is tied to the attack while on the ground, but it'll take getting used to and I'm not the biggest fan of what it'll mean when I decide to start swapping between games.

1

u/brokenskullzero Mar 05 '25

Tho honestly it makes a bit more sense this way, Triangle was your basic combo on ground and O is the stronger attack to finish the combo, so it makes sense the button to keep a combo up is the same in the air

1

u/DovahKing604 Mar 05 '25

Yeah, as a SnS user when I get a mount. I move all over the monster opening the 2-3 wound spots. Use a focus strike while still mounted to the monster. Beat the shit out of it while it is down. Then use the charging jump attack and focus strike while airborne. When I first started SnS in wilds (switch axe main in previous series) I thought I would just have a bunch of mobility and focus on elements and statuses. Nope. Been rocking straight raw damage and bullying everything.

1

u/Darth_Senpai Mar 05 '25

I disagree with the statement that it's harder to collect essences. They added a cheeky little kinsect boop to every bouncy air attack, which gives you the ability to be more aggressive while collecting them. Add to that the fact that we can send our kinsect through the entire monster to collect all of them at the same time, we get all of them back from landing a focus strike, and potentially get all three from our new big flashy essence attack, and I'd say it's easier than ever to harvest all the essence we'll ever need.

2

u/DrunkEngland Mar 05 '25

Yeah it's so much easier to collect the essences now, especially when you can collect all 3 by popping a wound. It's honestly just best to stay in focus mode, you keep up your essences and when you see a wound you can just pop your fully charged attack, pop the wound and be back to full essence instantly.

1

u/Darth_Senpai Mar 05 '25

Yyyyyyyyyup

1

u/Ok_Statement7261 Mar 05 '25

I grind it, and i love it. As always, took some time to get used to all combos, but after a while you delete the monsters - if you get alma‘s permission

2

u/WayyOutThere Mar 05 '25

It's cinematic af, love landing the midair focus strike and bug shoryuken

2

u/honato Mar 05 '25

Welp this has convinced me to learn it. SHORYUKEN!

1

u/DrJProtobum Mar 05 '25

It's got this charge attack now if you have all the essences, it's really fun to use

2

u/honato Mar 05 '25

So far that seems to sum up most of the wepaons. Not liking the bowguns as much as world/rise(rise was amazing. launching yourself 40 feet into the air to orbital cannon the poor poor monsters)

So many new weapons to learn ;.;

1

u/Quietsquid everything but guns Mar 05 '25

It's pretty fun, but some asshole decided to swap all of the buttons so they could watch all the veterans fuck up.

1

u/JaketheSnake2005 Mar 05 '25

So none of the controls are the same as in world or rise? My hunters gonna have a hell of a time getting back into his main

2

u/Quietsquid everything but guns Mar 05 '25

They switched y and b in the air and all of the kinsect stuff is now on the right instead of left. It's closer to rise, but still enough to throw you off.

1

u/JaketheSnake2005 Mar 05 '25

Why? For what purpose does it make sense to change the controls of a weapon that has relatively been the same through the more recent instalments. Rise had the tiniest change but was still easily memorable. Have they changed the controls on many of the weapons? I know there are some new moves but to change the controls makes no sense

1

u/SkeletonKorbius Mar 05 '25

Happened to me the other day. Got bored and went to help low levels, someone with a bow or something was just unloading explosive on lala barina while i was monster riding. Couldnt even create a wound before being blown off of it

1

u/rbrphag Mar 05 '25

If you just bop-ing once per wheee, then you ain’t glaiving well

1

u/Lanko Mar 05 '25

Sssshhhhhh, sweetheart this is my time to fly. It aint about you. 😉

1

u/Chaoseater999 Mar 05 '25

They cried when they saw us flying with Blast Dash... Now they get to fly too....

39

u/SilkyZubat Welcome to KaBoom Town Mar 05 '25

Aiming your Wyvern Fire above the monster so you don't blow up your bros but still clip the hit box >

(In World I have no idea if this works in Wilds don't @ me)

142

u/truecore Mar 05 '25

TFW you're a helicopter trying to mount the monster and you get sent flying by antiaircraft fire.

45

u/AkuSokuZan2009 Mar 05 '25

Bruh you almost made me spit my coffee across the room, that phrasing was hilarious. Its also pretty accurate, one of my buddies was an IG main in World, and this happened a lot LOL

Our other buddy was a hammer main, so sometimes it was like skeet shooting too.

6

u/TsumaniSeru Mar 05 '25

This was my reaction summed up ty

3

u/Broberts505 Mar 05 '25

Everyone knows helicopters are stronger when fired from a cannon. :)

2

u/GlowingBall Mar 05 '25

Blackhawk down! I repeat BLACKHAWK DOWN!

3

u/Swarbie8D Mar 05 '25

You can do it but you need elevation above your teammates to pull it off

11

u/Spikes_in_my_eyes Mar 05 '25

My buddy: "I'm on the other side of the monster.. turn before you-" I don't hear the rest because he goes flying.

3

u/Jet_Magnum Mar 05 '25

For those of us who play God Eater, this is just life.

God, I missed Kanon in GE3.

8

u/Duraxis Mar 05 '25

Loads Wyvern fire “Acceptable losses”

6

u/Norsk_Bjorn Mar 05 '25

I think they buffed (or maybe nerfed) it so that it only knocks over teammates instead of launching them, and also doesn’t do anything if they are in a combo

3

u/Shaene06 Mar 05 '25

Ahahaha! Thank you for the laugh!

2

u/user-nt Mar 05 '25

Guild:" Your hearing issues aren't service related"

And you gave me a great ideia for a gunlance character,

Red/orange hair, burn marks, and a blind eye

2

u/Historical_Royal_187 28d ago

I'm playing with a guy with super high spec monitors and soubd system., first hunt we did together was a night one. First wyvern fire literally flashbanged him.

"WHY IS THE WHOLE SCREEN WHITE?!"

1

u/SorionHex Mar 05 '25

I thought they removed that in one of the games?

30

u/Fudw_The_NPC SAY HELLO TO MY BOOM STICK Mar 05 '25

In wilds it no longer flinches so it's okay.

22

u/[deleted] Mar 05 '25

I was gonna say I was almost sure there was no affect but I don’t play with people tbf

6

u/LifeAwaking Mar 05 '25

Without the decoration it absolutely does.

8

u/Fudw_The_NPC SAY HELLO TO MY BOOM STICK Mar 05 '25

I have been playing nothing but gunlance since wilds release and i am 100% sure wyvern fire do not flinch team m8 .

3

u/A-Literal-Nobody Mar 05 '25

...That said, it seems like every other attack does, though. Was playing regular lance for a hunt and had a full team not using shockproof. Iirc, there was a gunlance, dual blades, and either a bow or a greatsword.

It was hell. Half the hunt was spent just trying to wrest control free from my teammates staggering me. I'm never taking shockproof off.

1

u/Draken09 Mar 05 '25

Same. It really should, but does not interfere with teammates in this game.

0

u/Ryu008 Mar 05 '25 edited Mar 05 '25

You only flinch if you have your weapon sheated, if you got the weapon out you won't flinch

The shockproof negates flinshing even with the weapon sheated

Correction: just tested it, i couldn't even move anyone while they were standing still with sheated weapon

Shockproof is useless, don't know why they left it in the game 😅

0

u/ThatChindian Mar 05 '25

It absolutely is necessary if there’s a bow or dual blades in the team. I’ve been chain staggered to a cart by bow and db players.

0

u/Ryu008 Mar 06 '25 edited Mar 06 '25

Maybe for bigger weapons

But i litterally did a full helmbreaker with spirit release slash on the head of a friend today, and they had 0 damage reaction

So i have no idea if longswords have any moves that make ppl flinch

But i only testet ls moves today, so no idea for other weapons 😅

Also no idea why i get downvoted.... the threat here is about longsword and i couldn't find a single longsword move that makes ppl flinch.... so it is useless on longsword .-.

0

u/dixonjt89 Dual Blades for 20 years!! Mar 05 '25

It 100% does not flinch. Played with a gunlance main all through the story and he repeatedly coated me in wyvern fire and i never flinched

1

u/honato Mar 05 '25

I have been whacked repeatedly by a GS and got knocked around

1

u/Fudw_The_NPC SAY HELLO TO MY BOOM STICK Mar 05 '25

I have not tried great sword yet but i have been flinched by it .

1

u/Tyrest_Accord Mar 05 '25

I've heard that it used to at least. Not sure if it still does. I haven't tried to play multiplayer yet.

1

u/Vancelot BUG & STICK Mar 05 '25

especially with how large the explosion is now, lol.

1

u/Zebra840 Mar 05 '25

It's not just flinching, it's flinching very hard XD I WF my friend at the end of the quest, he told me that his character was trying to get up after that, so I literally pushed him on the ground XD

-5

u/guntanksinspace Why burn fire Mar 05 '25

Not just flinch, we can blow other hunters away lol.

3

u/Eptalin Mar 05 '25

In Wilds, the biggest impact from a teammate attack is being tripped over. They removed launching.
