Beg to disagree! In Freedom and Freedom Unite the dude would spend the entire quest swimming in the sand in circles, and once it did decide to come out of the sand after you were almost dead of boredom, it would walk in the same place like a dumbass while having only three attacks: tail whip, hipcheck and spitting sand. The GU version has a lot more attacks, including ones when it's buried in the sand. It's also a lot more agile, agressive when attacking, and has more breakable parts.
It's not peak monster design but it wasn't just copy and pasted from the early gens.
Hmm, I honestly don't remember it having more attacks in GU. It did feel like it spent less time under the sand but I just chalked that up to it having less HP/us doing more damage so it didn't have the chance to be as annoying.
Not at all saying you're wrong, just saying I didn't actually notice. Only hunted it twice I think in GU.
Balahara seems to be an upgraded Cephadrome for that matter.
He and all other piscine wyverns feel obsolete at this point. Leviathans are clearly what it was always on their mind since day 1, and after Tri, the only reason we got piscines in World was again technical issues under the new engine. I really wouldn't be surprised if we hardly see them at all in the future.
lavisioth is a baller lmao. he seems lame in world but in GU when he jumps out of the ground he will absolutely style on you to belly flop into the lava.
There will always be a fan of every other monster, but at the end of the day, I'd say there were multiple reasons it was the least hunted in World.
Nowadays, if they feel the need to bring back lavasioth, they can bring agnaktor instead, which is a far more appreciated monster. At most, they can put one of them as Rise did as a way to showcase as many classes as possible, or maybe put plesioth when underwater combat comes back, but that's it.
It's overall the same reason no more unique pseudowyverns were introduced after fanged wyverns were created and no more will. And those that exist at least have flagships and endgame bosses to return regularly.
i think the tool use “required” monsters are some of the coolest just for establishing the vibe of monster hunter. having to stock up on barrel bombs, sonic bombs and the materials for both just to have an “okay” time fighting this monster sucks, truly, but on the other hand such diegetic suckage whips ass in my opinion.
