MH Wilds Some guy was pissed about shielded weapons

I joined this quest to hunt a tempered Arkveld because it had a unholy amount of rewards and this guy was who I joined was running the hunting horn. Anyhow this guy began to get angry because he was trying to max out DPS or something. To be honest I don't know but anyhow, he wasn't happy that I was using Gunlance and told me to get off it for two reasons, weapons with guards are inherently no skill by design, and guarding takes away from DPS. Anyhow he proceeded to text something to the other guy who joined which was a SnS telling him to get off SnS or don't block. He spent most of the hunt texting lmao

This isn't anything extreme but it was amusing to me and I wanted to share

Some people will just never cease to amaze.

"Game is too easy. Hunts end way too quickly!"

Also, in the same breath

"We MUST maximize DPS uptime, even if it means you're getting hit and/or carted"

What you did is called the Goomba Fallacy.

yeah, and it comes up so god damn much in this community. Another example is when people complain about the difficulty and people go "yeah and then when they release actual hard fights you'll bitch about how hard they are" or "y'all saying this game's easy but you keep carting in my Arkveld hunts" as if they can't comprehend in their tiny brains that those are two different groups of people and the people complaining about too easy right now aren't the people who will complain about too hard later nor the ones who are carting to arkveld

"Given the opportunity, players will optimize the fun out of a game."

This is the best comment I've ever seen in a gaming sub.

That's surprising, given it's a pretty famous quote! I encourage you to spread it to every gaming sub you can find, haha.

People say this as if it coming from him makes it automatically true.

I would change it to unimaginative players. The developers aren't your daddy, there to protect you from yourself. You have free will and agency. The people who are saying this right now are also the people who accuse developers of patronizing the player. So which is it? Because from where I sit, if I love a game, I love experimenting with it for the mere fact that its fun to be creative. I don't need approval to create my fun and if an optimal approach is dull, I don't do it, because it's dull. Not to say that developers shouldn't address crappy optimal strategies. They should. In the case of Wilds, for instance, wounds are a core mechanic, give bonus rewards, and can remove the threat of a monster especially with a coordinated team. By all means fix that. But this slogan as talisman encourages learned helplessness and represents players giving up their agency by choice. The developer player dynamic is a two way street.

It’s almost like there are different mind frames in the community and not a single hive mind.

Maximizing dps should come at the cost of survivability, which doesn't happen in Wilds, hence the game is too easy.
