I think it's that there are two types of people and Wilds perhaps slightly more uncharacteristically started to cater to the second. More longtime fans who want to be massively challenged and engage in long hunts, and potentially newer players who like just a little bit of a challenge and don't want long hunts. I don't think either preference is wrong, but there's clearly a minor conflict that has come of it.
This is becoming increasingly true. Base World definitely felt like it still had a good balance but right now Wilds is definitely way more skewed towards casual/new fans who only want to do small hunts and not all the work prior to finding a monster.
It’s also kind of BS that older fans are essentially punished by having to wait for a decent challenge either via drip feeding TU’s or having to wait a year + just for the DLC to give them some sort of challenge.

Fights took longer in Base World, that's all. They were still all piss easy until Iceborne and I don't think veteran players even really felt any pressure to interact with any of the systems surrounding the hunts. The only real threat in my run was Vaal Hazaak because I couldn't be assed to build Effluvium Resistance.
