For total homicides, US is 6.0, Canada is 1.76.

In Canada of the 651 homicides in 2018, only 249 were from firearms, so firearm related homicides is 0.67 per 100,000 population.

In the US firearm-related deaths are 4.5 per 100,000 population (in 2017), but varies with sex.

Cause of death Both sexes Male Female
Assault (homicide) 6.0 9.7 2.4
Assault (homicide) by discharge of firearms 4.5 7.6 1.4
