I suspect there is no way you could know this but it is gutting to a shorter guy to be described as cute by women. I know your heart was in the right place.

I get where you're coming from I'm just saying that from our end its an unambiguous complement. But I'll bear that in mind for the future

I've heard small girls express annoyance at always being called cute, so I wouldn't say it's a universally unambiguous compliment

I think it depends on the delivery too. It's entirely possible to say "God you're cute" with bedroom eyes and a fuck me voice. It's also entirely possible to say it the way you would tell a small child or a dog that they're cute.
