Internal note links โ€ฆ how did I never know this!?

Haha. Only four years into my joyful relationship with Obsidian and I discover how to easily make links to other parts of the note. Simply drag the heading from the outline on the right, and bingo - a link is created. I also never knew that these links could just start with a simple '#' - up until now I had been putting the whole name of the note in (ie, [[๐Ÿ“– Values in Therapy#Tool: The Sweet Spot]]).

Joy!

Maybe one of you didn't know this - hence the share.

[iOS/macOS] TaskForge: The Native Task Manager for Obsidian Users - Now on TestFlight!

Thumbnail

Hey r/ObsidianMD!

I've been working on TaskForge, a native task management app specifically designed for Obsidian users, and I'm excited to share that it's now available for testing on iOS and macOS!

If you're a screenshots first person, check out a few here for both the iOS and MacOS versions.

๐Ÿ”ฅ What makes TaskForge special?

  • Native Obsidian Tasks Integration: TaskForge works directly with your Obsidian vault's tasks, faithfully replicating the functionality of the popular Tasks plugin with full support for all date types, recurring tasks, priority emoji, and more!

  • Everything Stays Local: Your vault data remains exclusively on your devices - no external servers involved. iCloud is only used to sync your app settings and custom lists between devices, ensuring your personal information remains under your control.

  • Fully Customizable Experience: Create custom filtered task lists that show exactly what you need (tasks due today, tasks with specific tags, high priority items, etc). Light/dark mode, compact view options, and more to fit your workflow perfectly.

  • Rich Notification System: Get reminded about due and upcoming tasks with configurable notification times. The app also displays badges showing the number of tasks needing attention.

  • Beautiful Markdown Support: All your fancy formatting and links display beautifully in the UI - just as you'd expect from an Obsidian companion app.

๐Ÿง  Why I built this

I wanted a seamless way to manage my Obsidian tasks across devices without compromising on privacy or functionality. After looking at existing solutions, I decided to build something that works exactly how an Obsidian user would expect - with your tasks stored in plain markdown, accessible anywhere, and displayed in a native interface optimized for task management.

๐Ÿš€ Ready to try it out?

Join the beta via TestFlight and help shape the future of TaskForge with your feedback!

Download on TestFlight (iOS & macOS)

I'd love to hear what you think - feature requests, bug reports, or just general feedback are all greatly appreciated. Reach me here on Reddit or at taskforgedev@gmail.com.

Let me know what you'd like to see next in TaskForge!

PS I noticed another awesome Obsidian task app was posted earlier today! Great minds think alike ๐Ÿ˜„ There's definitely room for different approaches to task management in the Obsidian ecosystem. If you're using iOS, check out both and see which fits your workflow best! For macOS users... I've got you covered!

Obsi for iOS โ€“ View your Obsidian tasks on the go (TestFlight testers welcome!)

Hey Obsidian users! ๐Ÿ‘‹

Iโ€™ve just released an early iOS version of Obsi โ€” a simple mobile app that lets you view and manage tasks from your Obsidian notes on the go.

Itโ€™s privacy-first: no sync, no servers, no accounts. Obsi reads your local vault and shows your daily to-dos in a clean, mobile-friendly interface.

โœจ Features:

  • โ€œTodayโ€ tab for scheduled tasks
  • โ€œInputโ€ tab to quickly add tasks
  • Notifications
  • Works offline

๐Ÿš€ Try it on TestFlight:

๐Ÿ‘‰ https://testflight.apple.com/join/Jk9bhzzh

Would love your feedback as I continue building. Thanks for checking it out!

showcase I built a Chrome extension that transforms videos into Obsidian markdown notes with realtime AI Note taking (HoverNotes.io)

Hey r/ObsidianMD!

After struggling for years with taking notes from YouTube tutorials and educational videos online, I built HoverNotes - an AI powered Chrome extension designed for online video note-taking with direct Obsidian vault integration. Whether youโ€™re learning to code, studying medicine, or attending lectures, HoverNotes help you take notes from videos in your browser and save directly to your device in markdown such that they are always accessible.

Key Features:

  • AI-Powered Real-Time Notes: AI watches the video with you capturing diagrams, charts, code snippets e.t.c instead of just relying on transcripts
  • Direct Obsidian Integration: - Notes save straight to your local vault in markdown format
  • One-click screenshots - Timestamped video snapshots embedded directly into your markdown notes
  • Local-First Philosophy: Your notes save to your deviceโ€”with optional cloud storage.

How it works:

  1. Install the extension
  2. Connect to your Obsidian vault. (Any folder on your computer is fine)
  3. Watch any video (YouTube, Udemy, Coursera, school websites, even Google Meet and Zoom)
  4. Toggle "Video Mode" for a side-by-side experience
    • Let the AI generate notes automatically as you watch or take your own
    • Edit/add your thoughts in real-time
  5. Everything saves directly to your vault for future reference.

What makes this different from transcript-based tools is that unlike transcript-based tools, HoverNotes uses AI to watch videos like you do, capturing visual elements such as diagrams and code that transcripts miss entirely. This ensures that every key moment is documented without needing to rewatch videos repeatedly.

HoverNotes is Perfect For:

  • Students tackling complex lectures or tutorials.
  • Professionals learning new skills via online courses.
  • Developers referencing coding tutorials without rewinding endlessly.
  • Researchers extracting insights from video presentations.

HoverNotes is great for anyone who learns from videos - from coding tutorials to medical school lectures. Because everything saves directly to your vault, your video learning becomes an integrated part of your knowledge base.

I built this because I was tired of constantly having to rewatch tutorials to find that one specific part I needed. Now I watch once and reference forever. It follows the "File over app" philosophy - your knowledge should be in files you control, in formats like markdown that will outlast any app.

Would love your feedback if you try it out! HoverNotes Chrome Extension

Lost half of the data in a note

Post image
2 Upvotes

I have been using obsidian extensively since the last 6 months for my studies, and I have no plans of leaving it anytime soon.

Recently a good chank of data from a notes disappeared, between Sunday and Monday as seen in file recovery plugin snapshots. I must mention that I store my data locally and I don't use sync services.

Gladly I was able to recover it but I have lost a bit of my faith due to this incident. The thought of losing weeks worth of your data, is not a good one to have in the back of your mind, while you are engaged in deep work.

sync Best way to bulk import a book collection as a set of notes, where each book has its own note?

I have a project and I need to make a set of my references. I have a whole bunch of pdfs and epubs. I have them all neat and organized in zotero and calibre. Is there anyway to export one of those lists to obsidian?

Ideally, each "note" would include the book's title, author, link to the local file, tags, and a place for notes.

But I don't want to have to enter all that info for like 300 books haha. Any way to automate this?

My dataview entries all the sudden don't show at all. I didn't update or change theme or do anything. It's like this even after I updated dataview and tried different themes including default. There are no snippets as well.

Here's the code that has remained unchanged, used to work perfectly fine before.

Kvaesito + obsidian

This is a foss launcher I'm using and it's been a nice experience. I want to use it with obsidian daily notes. So this launcher has markdown "notes" widgets that can link to any markdown file or text file (dunno if it supports other formats tho). There is no obsidian plugin for this launcher yet. So i was wondering if there is a plugin in obsidian where it changes the present days(ex. "2024-04-09") name to "Today.md" or something custom and reverts the change as the next day comes and the next day (ex. "2024-04-10") to "Today.md" or something custom, so the changes happen eachday on the note widget in the homepage. Ngl sounds stupid but I'm hoping there is a workable solution @-@

Obsidian - Password Collection issue

Hello everyone,

I've come across a strange phrasing in the privacy policy on Obsidian's official website, and I wanted to share it here.

Screen Shot of the privacy policy of Obsidian. Highlighting "password" in the collected data section

I'm wondering:

  • Was this just a misphrasing on the Obsidian teamโ€™s part?

If this isn't addressed by Obsidian, I believe it's worth bringing to the attention of users concerned about their privacy.

Have a great day, and stay safe online.

plugins Question: Process for importing responses from ChatGPT and Scite.AI as individual notes

Has anyone seen a plugin that can import responses generated in ChatGPT or Scite.AI?

Ideally, it would be something that you could trigger. It would identify and list newly created responses (rather than the whole list) and then ask you to select any response you would like to import. It would then import each note as an individual note for further formatting and filing.

(Note: I will also post this on the Obsidian Forum.)

Edit: Going to post this in the Obsidian Forum I found a thread about the Plugin: Nexus AI Chat Importer: Import ChatGPT conversations to your vault - Share & showcase - Obsidian Forum, so I will try that out for ChatGPT, but nothing for Scite.ai, which is understandable as it is probably not commonly known. (If you're a researcher, it's worth checking out, but they do charge a pretty penny for all the best features. Luckily, I can charge my subscription to my work).

Display settings for languages?

Hindi text
English text

I have been using Obsidian for a few months now and appreciate learning from the posts in this sub! I am using Obsidian to write in different languages (Hindi and English), and have fallen in love with basic Arial font lol. It looks fabulous to me for English texts, however, it is tightly packed in Hindi text. I am using Minimal theme and had to increase the distance between lines to 2 (I think) for english text to look good to my eyes, but if I increase it for the sake of getting Hindi text right, English looks very sparse. How can I get it fixed?

View percentage of a subset of notes that contain property value

Is there a way to view what percentage of a subset of notes contain a given property value? All of my daily notes contain a property called "tasks" that has one or more general categories for how I spent my work day. I want to see how many of those notes contain tasks == value1, value2, etc.

Code block color-coding present in edit and live preview, disappears in read mode.

Edit/live preview mode:

Read mode:

All color coding of the elements disappears, and it no longer notifies the reader that it's C++ code in the top right. Why, and more importantly, how do I get it to look like the live preview in read mode?

Recurring time blocks day planner

Hi,

I just started using obsidian at first for my songwriting. But then I saw the day planner plugin and started using it for that. I really like it but there is one thing I am missing and that is having the time blocks recurr everyday. Like morning routine can stay the same everday at the same time. I don't want to have to copy it all the time.

I tried to use the tasks plugin but it didn't seem to work in the timeline.

Is there a way to do this?

You can become immortal, thanks to Obsidian

I use Obsidian for 2 global tasks: a work graph and a personal graph. If the work graph is only what is related to 1 biggest project, the second graph - personal - is almost my whole life.

The personal graph contains everything from daily reflections, thoughts, ideas and working on different ideas and projects. Yesterday when I sat down to fill out the weekly reflection I had to create an unusually high number of notes because it was a busy week. Also, last week I spent a lot of time with my nephew who turned 15 and I'm trying to be as helpful to him as possible. So, while taking notes I thought, โ€œIt would be cool to teach him how to use Obsidian, then I can give him a part of my graph, where I've already collected a lot of useful information.โ€ And then it was like I got an electric shock...

I've been writing down pretty much everything in my head for a year now. Obsidian is really a second brain for me... and for a year now I've been methodically, on a daily basis. a digital fucking copy of myself! Just think, because the graph in Obsidian is a perfect digital copy of everything I think about, what I'm interested in, what pisses me off, what I want and what I love.

It turns out that in N years, will accumulate such a volume of information that if you want and can make your digital double or copy (after death, for example) do not need to digitize me (and how to do it is not clear) can just use the graph of my Obsidian.

Think about it: โ€œEvery day you take notes, you're creating your own digital copy.โ€ Wooh, I was already addicted to note-taking, and now it's taken on some religious overtones.

What do you think about that?
